View Full Version : Game locks up during loading

Beginning in MidOctober 2009 my LOL game started locking up about 1/3 of the way thru loading. It then proceeds to lock up the computer. I think the change may be caused by a Microsoft update to the .Net system. Does anyone else have this problem or is there a workaround? I really miss having my little 15 minute games during the day.

Yeah, I'm feeling it to. I just reinstalled this after a format, hadn't updated the .net thing in forever, then after it wouldn't load. I thought it was because my graphics and memory had changed, but if you guys are having the same problem... :(

I have the same problem. Did you find a workaround? What Windows and service pack are you guys using? I have WinXP SP3 on my desktop computer. The game works fine on my laptop with WinXP SP2, so it could be the SP that causes the problem?

Could be... Im using Windows Vista but not sure about the SP... Im thinking anything over WinXP SP2 doesnt work o-o But even if i try compatibility mode, it still freezes....

I had my brother to try the game on his and dad's computer. The game worked fine on his machine with winxp sp3, but on dad's win7 the game didn't work (even in compatibility mode). My brother's machine has vanilla sp3. That is, he doesn't have automatic updates turned on, and he didn't install any windows updates or hotfixes after he installed the sp3. I, on the other hand, have sp3 with hundreds of additional windows updates and hotfixes.
I tried to uninstall every version of .net framework, and then install the basic v1.1, but it didn't help. I don't feel like uninstalling sp3 to check that out, though.

Maybe a virtual pc or a virtualbox can help resolve this for you. I know it is extra effort but the game is worth it.

Maybe it is asking much...
Could the company fund a few hours of developer testing to find out what keeps the game from working with Win XP.
Or better said: What must be done to make it work.
It would be a pity if such a wonderful game has to go under a cover of dust, because it just does not work any more.

I dont think anyone is working on the game anymore... I mentioned before that I emailed Hiro_Antagonist in like March, no answer yet. As much as I want the game to work on XP and Vista, I dont think its going to happen anytime soon. I think the only way to play the game now is through the cell version. Well for now anyways

What do you mean by cell version?
What is cell?
How can we play the game?

This is the intro to "The Honorably Discharged" forum which we are a subforum of.
In an effort to show appreciation to our customers who have bought out-of-print products, we are providing this forum. If you want to hook up with players of old games or have questions about an out-of-print product, post them here. Some old game forum archives are provided as subforums for players to search through if need be.
I think it refers to games that are no longer actively supported. The developer might not even be associated with Shrapnel anymore.
Shrapnel is very nice about not deleting forums. No matter what happens they seem to feel that if people bought it then they should at least be able to ask each other questions.

Sorry guys that you are having problems. Seems more and more Microsoft is going away from backwards compatability with their operating systems and add on products such as the net framework.
We no longer have a contract with the Developer of this game and have no legal rights to update or fix code. It sounds like some of you have tried to contact him. That would be my only suggestion.
