Hi,

i just realized that i'm unsure about standard rules & cheating, being kind of a newbie and all. I mean, apparently with cheating you mean some tactics or misuse of the game engine?

Is there a FAQ or some other thread i should see about these?

Hurmio

Hmm I cannot find any thread that details what is and what is not considered Cheating but the general highlights are

*Charming/enslaving bogarus and copying his attack commander orders
*Sickle farming (using the sickle whose crop is pain and an ally casting weak summon spells at the unit using it to farm death gems)
*Flooding an enemies lab with slave collars or some other useless item
*Attacking me :p

Also as for standard rules generally means that if you make any diplomatic deals with your fellow players you will be expected to keep them. Now there is nothing formal to stop you from breaking any deal you make but it will likely affect your reputation in the future.

Ok,

that's clear to me.

Hurmio

Zeldor

Turning your commanders into undead via life after death/ankh is also considered cheating/exploit. I am going to write down all those rules and hopefully it will be a sticky :)

militarist

And a few more questions:

NAP/alliances - brakable/not?
Trading?
Offgame communications allowed/not?
Other rules?

Trumanator
January 15th, 2010, 05:19 PM
Assuming this game is like 90% of the other games currently running, we will use llamaserver. There is an FAQ here (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=35160). Since it is PBEM there is no need for URL or port #s. Ferrosol will most likely tell us when the game is up so we can submit pretenders.

Generally, it is considered poor etiquette to break NAPs or alliances w/out following procedures, but there is nothing that can be done to you about it. Simply know that your reputation may suffer.

Trading is usually allowed, at least so far as gems/items go. Trading provinces, especially VPs, is a very controversial subject, and should probably be avoided simply to prevent the thread becoming a flamefest.

Most people prefer to conduct diplomacy and such using forum PMs, or occasionally the IRC channel, since the in-game message system has numerous faults. Absent any specific statement regarding this area, I assume this is allowed in this game.

As for other things to know, I suppose informing you about some common exploits to avoid is in order. If you charm Bogus and Co. you may not copy their orders to other commanders, though you may use them with Bogus and Co. You may not use the spell Life after Death or the Ankh to create hordes of upkeep free priests and/or mages. You should also not "sickle farm", by having an ally cast weak remote attack spells at a thug of yours holding the Sickle Whose Crop is Pain for loads of D gems. These are the most common ones that occur to me, but others may add their own, and as Ferrosol stated, go ahead and ask him if you have a question.

Ferrosol
January 15th, 2010, 05:53 PM
right game is up on the llamaserver its up as EdenEA due to the fact that llama does not like four letter words :) if you need help on how to use the llamaserver check out the sticky at the top of this forum.

AdmiralZhao
January 15th, 2010, 07:58 PM
Out of curiosity, why are sickle/ankh farming considered exploits? I've used/seen them used in several games, and never considered them foul.

I'm not contesting their designation as exploits in this game, or trying to start a flame war. Just curious about what sets them apart.

Trumanator
January 15th, 2010, 08:02 PM
Well, they don't really bother me that much, but they're what I've seen people complain about.

Zeldor

It's just a hidden income, and it's D income. You risk almost nothing, just some minor micro, to get guaranteed 30D a turn. More than Well of Misery.

I was away longer than expected.
I still staled, though. It will be funny trying to survive with 3 provinces and two foreign forces next to my capital.
Not that I expected to do particularly well in this game anyway, so no real consequence except maybe a small present to my neighbours.

Sir_Dr_D
January 27th, 2010, 03:06 PM
A note to my neighbors. I am going to be sending troops to my border provinces for the purposes of patrolling, and defense. I am in a highly defensible area, with few entrance points, and will be making use of that fact.

AdmiralZhao, you mostly do your turn last one, and then end of turn is generated. Why you do not do 2nd turn immediately then? Maybe it would soloved your problem?

Hint: never kill gamehost in the beginning of the game:))

Trumanator
February 5th, 2010, 12:00 AM
If Ferrosol has been eliminated its time to find another admin. Its not fair to demand that he devote his time to a game he has no stake in.

Edit: Uh oh, it looks like we might have a problem. I just looked at the staling data and it appears that Ferrosol staled at least the last 5, possibly the last 7 turns. I'll see if I can pm llamabeast about giving me the admin password if thats all right with everyone else.

militarist
February 5th, 2010, 01:42 AM

This is a bit unfair. Despite the fact that the Oni's second form is poison immune, they continue to take poison damage if they were poisoned before they become a ghost. Those posion bows are really starting to annoy me.

:hide:

AdmiralZhao
February 9th, 2010, 01:42 AM
It makes sense when you think about it. When an Oni changes into spirit form, any poison in its system changes to spirit-poison, which naturally they are not immune to.

Hay, I have this great idea: how about we stop letting Marverni domkill the world?

I think we need to do something about Marverni catching up to me in reasearch. The Oni have been feeling rather sub-par lately, since a Sauromatian archer only needs to sneeze on the other side of the battlefield to cause naby of my troops to die of poison. This has not been all that good for my Oni's self esteem. The only thing that has kept them going is the knowledge that they are leading in research. If Marverni pulls ahead in research, then I am afraid I will have a lot of suicidal Oni on my hands.

Surprisingly enough, I'm fine with that. Just suicide them in Marverni's direction, please.

Hello,

Since I'm using some holidays to go in a place without internet, I would like to pause the game until friday the 19th. In fact I don't exactly mean it. R'lyeh is in a very bad shape and will be eaten in few turns by Oceania.

Therefore it's really up to you!

If you're ready to wait 1 week for the next turn, I'm ready to finish the game and to play until the complete death of R'lyeh's spawns.

If you don't think it worth it then I would understand and won't complain. I think though that asking for a sub would be inappropriate, unless if someone wants to have fun trying their best to slow down a bit Oceania.

I repeat, it's up to you. I'm really ready to follow any option.

ps: I leave saturday.

Well, dang. Helheim just broke their NAP3 in order to launch a surprise attack against the noble Argathan people. Which I wouldn't mind so much, except that at one point or another *every* single neighbor of Argatha, with the sole exception of Caelum, has decided that it would be a great idea to attack us. Of course, they have all regretted their decision in time, after facing our fierce armies and ingenious strategies. Soon Helheim will feel the same regrets. But in the meantime, if anyone wants to take some of Helheim's land while their attention and armies are elsewhere, feel free. :) And don't let any pesky treaties you have with Helheim stop you. Those treaties will not stop Helheim from using stealth and cloud trapeze to launch a massive surprise attack on you when the time comes.

militarist
February 20th, 2010, 06:21 PM
Everybody around Agartha sick and tired from it's neverending lies. As for Helheim - the NAP was signed with a condition about Agartha not only forgot, but willingly refused to do it,pushing Helheim into hopeless war we had no chance to win. So Agartha canceled this treaty far before we found enough forces to punish it for it's cruelty.

Helheims respects any agreements and always plays gentlemen approach. Unfortunately it can not be said about all.

It is also lie that Agartha is in war with Vanheim,Hinnom and Panagea..Agartha has overgrown it's ability to manage itself, made too many enemies by it's aggression an cruelty. But with the help of bribery and threats, it keeps peace with all of them for many turns. They are in peace many turns, and Helheim made it's decision basing on our understanding that together with Fomoria we will be a good match against Agartha, who has more then 1100 troops in the territories we see. Of course, Agartha's diplomats want to convince us that war Agarha against Fomoria 1:1 is a better much...It's funny to hear after reviewing nations graphs.

In terms of income, fortresses, gems, research Agartha is far ahead of both of us taken together.

So, this move was heroic rather then immoral. And God save Helheim and Fomoria in this holy war against local tyrant!

Though even 2 of us have very illusion chance to win. And if Agatha will win, nobody will feel safe in this world. I call for all brave nations to join our crusade, and help this world to get rid of the plague of Agartha!

I was just about to submit my turn (it was 10 mins until the hosting time). I looked at my e-mail and I saw that the game hosted. What gives? I am "positive" that I wasn't late and the server was showing the correct time. What gives? I am kinda upset.

hmmm, I'm not sure what happened in that case? I certainly didn't do anything myself of course, had you submitted an earlier "placeholder turn?

Edit: nvm, just checked the llamaserver and it confirms you staled. I really don't know what to tell you. I would really hate to do a rollback, would it be a disaster for you if we didn't?

Sorry to do this to everyone, but could I get a 24 hour delay? I was traveling this weekend, and find that on arriving home I completely lack the energy to do a half-way decent turn.

In exchange, I promise to send a small gift of gold or gems to every other player. :)

GRANTED!!! I will hold you to that though. :D

It's OK. It's not the end of the world. I just didn't know what caused it and it's really annoying when you spend half an hour preparing orders only to find out you staled before hosting time...

Crap.. Managed to miss the turn. I didn't realize the host was so early.

That would explain why my last turn conquests seemed so easy.

I'm noticing that there are some nations with a lot of stales, and looking at the turns received I see that we are close to having two more. Please know that if you are going to stale LET ME KNOW! I have no problem postponing the turn if you let me know ahead of time. I'm looking at you Hinnom & Oceania. If people want to increase the hosting interval, that's fine too, I'm sure Admiral Zhao wouldn't mind more time to deal with his massive empire ;)

Things are getting towards the point where an increased hosting schedule will be nice.

Though the game mostly seems won by this point. My main goal right now is to see if I can finish my current war, before Agartha has engulfed everything.

AdmiralZhao
April 20th, 2010, 06:30 PM
Argatha does not engulf. We might nibble, we might snack, we might take a bite and chew slowly, but we do not *engulf*. Also, I would thank you to keep your catty comments about my pretender's weight to yourself. She is doing the best she can to watch her diet, but the stress of these continual wars and her coming Ascendancy makes it difficult.

Okay, I'm looking at the score graphs, and I don't really see anyone being able to take on agartha. Is it time to end this game with the win going to AdmiralZhao?

AdmiralZhao

I would be fine with calling it. For a while now I've been mulling over an all-out grab for VPs, and breaking ~5 NAPs in order to get a quick win. So far though I've been going with the slower and more honorable approach of expanding against Oceania/Yomi and leaving past allies in peace. Still, there is no reason to drag the game out if people aren't having fun. If we do keep playing, I will expedite things with some 999 gem globals that I've been saving for the end times.

Trumanator

Well, from my perspective the quicker the better, since I'd like to claim to have survived to endgame. :D

I'm ok with calling it, if that's what people want to do. I don't mind continuing either, since i haven't been in late game many times before.

I am okay with calling it. I am having fun, but since I am new I don't have a ton invested in it, and I am not fond of the direction I am heading.. :)

Well that gives us a bare majority, but I'd like to give it just a little more time for any objections.

While I do agree that Agartha wins this in the long term, I was just starting to have fun with a couple of SCs myself -- not to win the game but just to have fun. If the majority of people want to end it I'm fine with it but personally I don't mind playing a few more turns before calling it.

Well, since we have 7 definite affirmatives and no decisive nos I'm going to end it. Grats to the Admiral on winning, (w/EA Agartha no less!) and thanks to everyone for their efforts.

I would also like to say Grats to Sauromatia, for being so darn resistant to being finished off.

And thanks Trumanator for taking over as host for the game.
