Just make sure every province province has 50 PD and priest/mages to cast

Fanatisism (or Growing Fury)
Army of lead
Weapons of Sharpness
and Flaming Arrows

and they will hold their own. ;)

Sure, if you accept conventional wisdom and just roll over and die. But if on top of the basic use always spells sansanjuan mentioned you also use will of the fates, strength of giants and hit the opposing army with a simple master enslave, your opponents smirk will be wiped off his face as your 'useless' markata destroy him.

I can think of worse pds. Dont markata trow poop at enemies?
Machakan cant kill anyone and they die faster. Like a lot others.
They probably should get mages as commanders to get that spicy.

PDs dont balance.
PDs are one item in the overall balance of a nation. Isnt that nation one of the swarming nations? Plus stealth armies?

Monkey pd is quite good vs maenads, since it has such a large number of projectiles, and maenads have 0 prot.

Macahakan PD is quite capable of that too. In one of my SP test games I built a 50 strong Machakan PD, with the idea that I bring in the pretender to cast Army of Lead (I had this cunning plan, on paper it did look wonderful). Had to cast Summon Earthpower first though, and before round two and Army of Lead the Macahakan PD had already routed itself.

Oh the beauty of chucking javelins at the unprotected backs of your mates (the suckers without protection are the fastest (and all these years I thought "reds go fasta", sadly it is not true for Machaka :( ) and thus they rush in first, of course) and then promptly routing because of the losses that caused...

If you are in an MP game, and you have a nation with weak PD, just put a bog beast in each province. No one will want to attack you then.

Puts on serious hat There's nothing wrong with monkey PD that a lot more can't solve. You just need a minimum of 30 so you have 5 big bandars to hold up the morale.

I don't think the markata chassis is really designed for low end equipment like the black steel kite shield. Try something a bit more upmarket like a golden shield or accursed shield, along with artifacts in every other slot and you should see their full potential. Then laugh as your enemies crumble to your 'lowly' markata.

I'm actually a fan of casting transformation with my empowered markata scouts. Sure you lose the awesome chassis, but you also cut down your upkeep which lets you hire - that's right - more markata scouts.

Imagine the look on your foe's face when he realises you aren't even paying upkeep on these badboys!

I'm absolutely astounded by the fact that QM has not nerfed Markatas in CBM.

To the contrary, his mod seems to take the stance of modding them to be *better*! I'm not sure what QM is smoking when he makes the mod but this situation must be addressed!

I mean, just yesterday monkey army supported by a Chayot, Seraph and three Lords of Hell defeated my niefel raiding force.

You shouldn't be able to bring Markata Scouts back with Ritual of Rebirth. A Markata with Legendary Cruelty is game-breaking enough as-is, let alone a Mummified Markata with Legendary Cruelty.

I don't think that's even worth addressing in balance mods - it's such an obvious exploit that it should be considered to be banned as a default setting. Same with twiceborn cast by empowered markata.

I'm wondering why the game developpers took the pain to implement such useless units as ruddras and siddhas. Who would spend gems on such worthless summons when you've got the All Mighty markatas ?

So I propose, as No One Ever uses them, to suppress them in next CBM version. It will free up some spell slots.

occasionally Siddhas are useful. they can ferry equipment and gems to your markata SC's out on the front lines.

Yeah well everything has a marginal use. I suppose there are times when you /might/ not want a markata and PD based strategy, if you're into RP or you're playing an all allies exploration game, or you want to handicap yourself against one of the many AI super opponent mods.

Interesting but too restrictive. How about just an all-monkeys game.

Hmmm... come to think of it isnt the monkey nations some of the few that could be fully duped by a mod? Replace 20 nation slots with the same monkey nation and have World War Primate. Total balance. Strategy only.

You guys are just using markata PD wrong. I find I can easily defeat remote ghoul attacks if you just have your pretender drop Armies of Gold and Fog Warriors. If you add in some thugs and a seraph for Will of the Fates, they can usually handle Call of the Winds too.

How are you supposed to get that early game? A much better tactic is to teleport in shrouded D9 blessed casters to hit the enemy before they move in, dropping doom on them for mass curse then bloodletting and other mass low damage spells, before making a kamikaze attack to set off their Medallion of Vengenace.

Let's see how your opponent deals with 'useless' monkey pd when all their units have 10 afflictions each.
