I had a recent game as EA mictlan where I used ice devils and arch devils pretty heavily, and I was always paranoid that opposing players would wise up and use flambeaus against them. Even a str 10 human with a flambeau will do 69 (I think) ap damage. Fortunately they never did, but is there is a good response to this tactic?

My plan was to rely more on ice devils, size 4, and then use darkvines, size 5, to try to mess up his presumed attack large enemy monsters order, but what else is there? I can't think of anything to reasonably equip the SC with that will stand up to such a high level of damage.

Obviously if the hit does a lot of the damage, the answer should be "don't get hit". I hope that answers your question =P

Does fire resistance make you immune to the ability?

The standard "don't get hit" approaches still apply, except that you can't rely on Protection. You still have Defense, Awe, Vine Shields, Eye Shields, and Luck. Plus "strength in numbers," "do unto others... first," and "strategic mobility."

(Respectively, these mean: multiple cheaper thugs in the same combat instead of one expensive SC; high attack rate of your own that gives the Flambeau dude mimimal time to penetrate your Luck/Vines/etc.; and not being where the massed flambeaus are.)
