recruitable trolls

I did a quick search for this and didn't find anything.

I remember in Dom II you could occasionally find a province where you could recruit trolls. I haven't been able to find any provinces like this in Dom III. Are trolls still recruitable? Or are they only available through summon spells?

They can be recruitables, but this has to be set in the map file or on a magic site IIRC.

site id# 272 - Troll Pit (Earth).

I had encountered the former.

There is a Troll Pit in my current game (pic attached). They are spendy but have pretty nice stats.

I've never tried to GoR one, but they look like they'de be decent, with the strong built in regen and average stats, you should be able to make them decent. The upkeep wouldn't seem steep then. Also, if you buy them, you must use them. I like finding the sea trolls, but if/when you conquer the sea, you must send them to do battle.

There is one poptype where trolls are available for recruitment that can appear randomly. It's the Trolls & vaettir (troll, vaetti, vaetti wolfrider and vaetti chief as commander). The others must be scripted in the map file.

I thought that poptype was excluded from random generation?

No. It's just very, very rare. I've seen it all of four times as random in all my Dominions games, and that's including both Dom2 and Dom3.

The ones that are excluded are the ones that have svartalfs, dwarven smiths and troll kings, as well as for some reason the pure vaetti one.
