Obscure the mage

hi guys,
I didn't found answer in forum so I ask you:
"How work Obscure (A2) the mercenary mage?"
I've noted that in battle this mage is always hidden ! ...too much coward? ...his only usefulness is " search a magic site" and "research" ...ok is good!! but He don't cast a spells!!!
Advices for my situation?

When you move him, make sure that his order is "move" and not "sneak".

You can use Ctr+left click to force a normal move for stealthy units.

order was "move"....I've tried for three turns "move" and automatically in following turn show me "hide" (???)

the problem with stealth vs move is a common one for new players. Even worse for nations where the entire army is capable of it. This is one of the limericks from the limerick thread...
There once was a cocky guy
thought Pangaea would be fun to try
He amassed quite a force
and marched them all forth
but half stealthed and watched the rest die
