There are several situations where I don't know what to expect with items, when commander is slain:

Phoenix magic?
life after death?
immortality?

What happens with items? If still I can imagine that in first 2 cases commander should still have items, but in 3d case it's not obvious.

Phoenix pyre and life after death will preserve items. Immortality will not.

In theory I think that resurrections that take place on the battlefield (phoenix pyre, elixir of immortality, shape-change-on-death) should preserve items unless they involve losing the slots the items occupied, while resurrections that take place off of the battlefield (immortality, call god, etc) should always reset the character to default equipment.

In practice I occasionally see items lost mid-battle on seraphs & chayots using elixirs of immortality and (in the case of the seraphs) casting phoenix pyre that I can not attribute to any cause that I know of.

Maybe the items were taken by another commander? Death->comander's % to pick up loot-> resurection
it may have a sense
