do armor of virtue helps against horror attacks if horrormarked?

Yes, though some of the nastier horrors have insta-kill attacks.

Make sure you don't have orders to 'attack' in the very first combat turn. You need to stay in the square you start in (buff, or just 'hold' or one turn), in order for the returning effect to attach to your unit.

I can't order cast attacking spells as well? Or I can spellcast?

Casting any spell is fine. Just as long as you don't move on the very first turn of battle, you'll be okay.

Sure wouldn't be my prefered method to defend against horrors. You have to get hit first and damaged which means more horror marking. If this is a very important unit without astral magic I'd be highly tempted to empower to S1 and put on a starshine cap and use returning instead. I mean by important your pretender for example.

It the unit has S1 or more, put on gear to get to S2, script returning and give it 2 pearls. Done.
