Hi chaps, just a quick question.

In SP when are the magic sites generated? I'm running Dom3bak and found a really nice configuration of interesting sites. If I restart will the sites be the same?

Could I substitute another pretender or nation into my slot in the turn 1 savegame?

Thanks in advance,

J

1) If you're using a custom map (e.g. one created by SemiRand), some sites may be coded into the map, and will always be there.
2) Otherwise, and for the balance of the sites, they are generated when the game is initially created and stored in the game files (ftherland, I believe), so re-starting the game (other than by returning to a backup) will regenerate the sites.

It's not quite that simple. Sites are assigned in a game during the game creation phase BEFORE any map file specific instructions are applied. What this means is that unless the map file instructions for a given province do not include #killfeatures, randomly generated sites are applied first and scripted sites will only appear if there are enough free slots in the province.

If the map file has #killfeatures for a province, only scripted sites can ever appear there, since #killfeatures wipes out all the randomly generated sites.

there are also a few events which will add a site after the fact.

Actually, modding that site could be cool....

Ah - that throws some more light on it.

I played a map for the second time and I could have sworn that although the magic sites were virtually identical there was one small but significant difference in a particular site.

I thought that it was my memory playing tricks. Or perhaps some well deserved punishment for being so lame as to replay a map with some of the mystery removed.
