Aside from the blood spell that lowers the commanders age. Is there any other spell/means of pushing a commander out of old age?

Empowering in Death or Nature.
Casting the Gift of Health (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Gift_of_Health) makes units age slower. The Boots of Youth (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Boots_of_Youth) need Blood magic, too.

Empowering in death doesn't do it. But nature did, thanks.

Empowering in death will make them less likely to gain afflictions, though. Still, other means preferable.

You can also forge an Elixir of Life (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Elixir_of_Life), which, like the Boots of Youth lch mentioned above, won't actually reduce your unit's age, but will prevent aging/afflictions due to aging. The elixir goes in a misc slot, in case your chassis doesn't have feet slots.
If you happen to be playing T'ien Ch'i, you also potentially have the options of Internal Alchemy (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Internal_Alchemy) and Thousand Year Ginseng (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Thousand_Year_Ginseng)

Wouldn't death empowerment increase max age on undead? (And Earth on constructs?)
Niche cases, I know.

Yes. See this post from the FAQ (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=588095&postcount=5) for specifics.

Empowering in death might allow you to cast twiceborn, useful to transforme an old mage with good path into a no-upkeep undeath.
But for a thug you would lose your base form so not so good. :(

T'ien Ch'i (maybe only EA) also has a spell that removes a few years at the cost of 5% shattered soul or insanity (can't remember the specifics). Celestial masters can easilly cast it.
