perhaps we could use endgame diversity mod as well, to avoid the situation where everybody is playing for tartarians and one of the main deciding factors is who has more nature gems for GOR and who has the chalice or gift of health to cure them from feeblemindedness.

I'm a bit wary of including the endgame diversity mod. As far as I know the latest version has only been used in Inversions3 so there could easily be bugs or balance issues that haven't been caught yet.
If I see a majority of people want it I'm willing to include it but otherwise I'd rather leave it out.

Usually neighbours of Ermor have no future.
It takes all their resorces to defeat LA Ermor and gives no reward except 15D from his capital.
If they are not allied the game is won by Ermor. If they are allied the game is won by smb far from that war.
It's not fun.
Bonfire
July 3rd, 2010, 03:42 AM
Basically if Ermor isn't taken out early it tends to grow exponentially and run away with the game. Ermor has twice as many wins in the hall of fame than the next nation despite being banned in a large percentage of LA games.
The nations that take Ermor out however gain little since Ermor's dominion kills population and hence income.
Edit: or what don_Pablo said

Merchant setting up shop is the + income - faith one right? No access to event list but I vaguely recall that it's a "good" event @.@
Bonfire
July 11th, 2010, 07:18 AM
Nope the merchants keep the money so it's a bad event. According to the event database you can't get it until turn 3 so as long as you declare a prophet right away and/or start blood sacrificing on turn 2 it shouldn't kill you.

One nice thing to do (when possible) is when you are the last duck in the boat (turn submission) ... wait 5 minutes, pick up the new turn and immediatly take your next turn. Of course this is not possible at times but when you can swing it... much appreciated.

Dear Fellow Pretenders!
The unmoral hypocrite leaders of Marignon has show the white of their teeth.
Violating the NAP we had between us, they ordered their armies to attack, acting like a real weasel: cowardly and from the back, while scheming good intent. They surely consider themselves more intellectually capable for licking the hoofs of their Devil masters than navigate in the mazes of diplomacy by rules.
Perhaps its no coincidence they are in such an understanding relationship with the weak-moraled, covetous ctis who also share this habit of breaching agreements, of being unable to keep promises.
I after they shown how much their given word means, the non-agression pacts these devil-thralls signed with You are just as nonexistent as their intent to keep them when a little chance of gaining emerges for them.

My empire is under the collective attack of the dishonorable ctis, the backstabber marignon and the scavenger-hearted, arrogant illithids who joined the war when they thought there were just loots collect. They will find only death in my lands as i will defend it to the last standing man (Man :P).
I still have no allies myself.
I'd like to stress that ctis and rlyeh are 3rd and 2st in provinces owned even now and still has plenty of room to expand (with ulm outon their borders), they will be in a strong position should they triumph.
Leaders of marignon, what u will gain from this war is a sandwich from two strong empires, whom u will have no power to resist when the time comes.
Numerous troops of them are fighting in my lands (northwestern corner), so their borders elsewhere most probably lightly defended, great time for showing them .... what u wanna show them.

I'm going to delay the game 24 hours to see if a sub can be found for Marignon. I don't suppose I could convince you to do this one last turn Lann. It would help to keep the game from being delayed too long while we look for a sub.

Looks like 13lackguard has agreed to take over Marignon. We may be delayed another 24 hours if 13lackguard needs it for diplomacy or to get a handle on the nation. Sorry for yet another delay but I really don't want to let a nation that's still viable die due to stales.
I'm tempted to try and find a sub for Midgard as well they don't look like they're doing too badly on the graphs and I don't think legolasjrt is still playing. He would have staled again this turn if I hadn't increased the timer. Might be hard to find a sub if he's already staled twice though. Anyone closer to him on the map have any thoughts on this?
Thanks Lann5555 for not just leaving the game without telling anyone. I think it's a lot easier to find subs if a nation doesn't have any stales yet.

13lackGu4rd
August 31st, 2010, 10:17 AM
correction: the previous player backstabbed you than bailed out when things didn't seem to work for him. when I came in R'lyeh was already knocking at my doorsteps, and I had no income nor crossbowmen at the back to fight his hordes of chaff. my armies were concentrated on your territory with mages and whatnot, so I just kept going, especially after you told me yourself that you bribed R'lyeh and later Atlantis to attack me...
obviously if I was here from the begining I would have done things differently, but in this situation that I was given there was no escape, I was dead anyway as soon as you got R'lyeh+Atlantis to knock at my back door. so the only *sensible* thing to do is make you pay and try to bring you down with me... there was never redemption for this position.
now, I really don't appreciate your tone here, nor your blunt disrespect, even degrading me compared to the AI. so I'll finish by giving you a friendly advise, don't go running around burning down bridges, you never know when it will come around to bite you in the rear.

blackguard: just three things.
-I have nothing to do with atlantis attacking you. I bribed only R'lyeh (who was attacking me at the time in cooperation with u) to make it 2 vs 2 instead 3 vs 1 (im being the one). Basicaly you took revenge on me for defending myself.
-I didnt compare u to the AI, but your deeds in this game, i consider it a substantial difference, i dont see any offense in objectively describing someone's deeds as i see them. I have no problem with you personally. I'm convinced the AI wouldnt have given up all his homeland to get revenge on someone, so it would have behaved more reasonably if we restrict ourselves to game terms when defining "reasonable". I believe there were some emotional benefits for you to gain thru your kamikaze invasion, so I'm sure your deeds were also reasonable if we take out-of-game dimensions into calculation.
-I'm also convinced u had other, more optimal choices strategy-wise. Even if I dont count the massive change in the political landscape that happened since you took over, which could have saved you. Tho i know it might be mine perception/opinion only.

Well I'm out of this game. Real life is stopping me from having the time to play this game or even have more than intermittent internet access. I've sent in the current turn.
This game needs a new admin. If someone wants to volunteer that would be great. Otherwise I'm just going to send the admin password to the top 2 nations in terms of province count since should be in the game for a while.

Just to make a few things clear from my end, with regards to Man and Marignon:
Man did not pay me or even ask me to attack Marignon. I made that decision of my own free will. My invasion was originally timed to start on the same turn that the previous Marignon player quit. I actually held back for a couple turns because I felt it a little unsporting to attack before giving the new player some time to settle in. At the time I knew only that Marignon and R'lyeh were both attacking Man, and indeed I thought there was a decent possibility that R'lyeh would be pulled into a war against me. I didn't actually find out about R'lyeh and Man's arrangement until just before I attacked.
Earcaraxe, you might be a little slower to criticize Blackguard, however. Granted, it's probably a bit annoying to have his army blazing through your backcountry, but his actions do make sense from my point of view (and his, one assumes). The heart of his territory is largely occupied, and he can't get his forces back quickly. Given the choice between throwing everything I had left at a powerful force, and carving out some new land, I have no doubt that I'd make the same choice. So, probably best everyone just calms down a bit, before someone says something they regret.
On an unrelated note, I see that Bonfire is no longer able to play. I'd like to extend a big thanks for starting this game and running things so far. For the future, is there anyone in particular who'd like to volunteer as admin? I'm assuming we'll need a few days before the next turn regardless, so as to find a replacement player.

Let it be said that last month Agartha attacked two provinces owned by C'tis... not R'yleh. Agartha welcomes any evidence to the contrary by any party and is mightily confused by the R'yleh reaction. Perhaps R'yleh would agree to have the evidence heard by all pretenders of Gluttony and abide by their decision? Agartha still considers the R'yleh-Agartha NAP in place and will respond in kind to any aggression to the best of our meager abilities.
Let it further be stated that Agartha has turned the other cheek last year as R'yleh insulted Agartha with their harsh reviews of the "Agartha Finger Puppet Troop" calling the performance "weak" and "over the top".

Agartha would like to share an excerpt from the Air Queen involved with the R'yleh " misunderstanding " ..
"I had just finished off some C'tis rabble and, right in the middle of my post - battle preening, who should show up but a legion of naked, insane, R'ylehian madmen! Usually I am flattered to be pursued by a mob of naked, insane men but these seemed bent on doing me harm (!) and their hamdlers in the back were U-G-L-Y. To be honest they seemed as surprised to see me as I was to see them..."

How odd, I will note that said province is:
A.) Raided by Ctis from Ryleth and held for a single turn before being retaken by Ryleth.
B.) Surround by Ryleth province on every side.
C.) Holds lab structure constructed by Ryleth.
I am certain your constant influx of scouts
If you think airdropping into the middle of my nation in the middle of my war (now ended) with Ctis can be considered anything but aggression you can think again.
If you truly intend to abide by the NAP 3, I will give you a chance to return the lone province you have taken from me.
Otherwise, do not be deceived by Agartha's treachery, all treaty and agreement with them are suspect. Again to all pretenders, there is no need to ever abide by any agreement with someone who does not abide by them.

Oppertunist yes. NAP breaking.. no.
Our NAP did not include any of the provisions listed, only your demand that Agartha stay out of the water (perhaps a bit selfish as Agartha made no provision that R'yleh stay off the land). If R'yleh would like to consider an attack on C'tis aggression then so be it. In turn we would invite other pretenders to revaluate NAPs they have with R'yleh in light of your disregard for the former NAP between our pretenders.
Tiny Agartha will fall to the insane hordes from the deep, perhap quickly, but we will have a sting...

I'm sure R'yleh has their version.
The Agartha National Finger Puppet Troop (ANFPT) were sent as emissaries to R'yleh a year back. They were set to perform "Creature From The Black Lagoon" which, in hindsight, was probably not the wisest choice of material for the R'yleh Star Spawn Council. Anyway the Troop arrived in the capital (underwater with appropriate gear) and soon became quite insane. The lead Puppeteer, Lucy, sought solace from the madness in a local tavern where she was picked up by the R'yleh Vastness (Jim?). Jim had his/its way with her (from which she has still not recovered...) but.. the show must go on. Suffice to say the Troop was not at it's best and the R'yleh reviews were injurious to the Agartha pride ("Low production values"???!!!). In the ensuing diplomatic spat we turned away the R'yleh Karaoke emissaries (The Mad Mermen) they had sent as Royal entertainment to our capital. There are two sides to the story and this is ours.

We will shortly begin our retaliation in respond to your treachery although we are in quite a bind:
We have no wish to expand any further in the short term as things stand now, and are greatly saddened that despite our tolerance on your first breach on NAP you have decided to push your luck and thus force us to expand. first C'tis, now Agartha, whatever shall we do with our burgeoning problem?
Given the outcome of your attack with the element of surprise (some successful, some failed, and we note the huge loss in gem cost on some of the failures) against our unprepared positions, I think it would be fair to say that once we pull our defenses together and throw our own mages/thugs/scripts into the equation that the advantage would be on our side.
Thus our suggestion given our current expansion policy ("Stop forcing us to expand!"), I would be amendable to restoring things to the way it was given sufficent reparations. Of course, I'm sure you'll want to see some of the defenses I was speaking of first, I will of course oblige, though the reparation required for peace would be larger farther into the war, and the window for peace is short.
We were baffled, of all the possible target (and we note some juicy and conveniently placed ones), us?

Long have our seers walked the desolation of the coast, seeking signs of what is to come. And at long last, we have received an answer. A great black walrus was seen in the pools before the great temple, and it bellowed three times at the rising of the moon. The face of the glacier At'Heth Taratuk fell into the ocean, revealing the bones of a mighty beast. At the fourth white gate, the tide flowed three times without ebbing, leaving the trees broken under a weight of ice. The signs are clear, and we send our messengers now to share them with the world.
The terrible power that lies dead yet dreaming below the Coast of Ice and Bones is awakening once more. Arkael the herald has already come to prepare the path, and our armies have gone forth in her name. Now, all must be made ready. We must bring back to the coast new sources of magic, new bones to burn upon the altars.
The empire must expand.
For a long time, we have lived at peace with the strange creatures of Patala. Odd things, they cannot even survive more than a moment below the waters of the coast. Now the illithids of R'Lyeh call upon us to unite with them and so conquer these 'monkeys'. Against all the powers of the deeps, these furred things could not long stand. The starspawn urge us to see the benefits to both our peoples. Long have we cooperated with R'Lyeh, to great advantage.
Yet there is one thing they have forgotten.
R'Lyeh lays claim to near all the oceans of the world. And the seas are ours. Our heritage. Our birthright. Our legacy, stolen from us by the starspawn. We have not forgotten. We have not forgiven. The time has come to reclaim all the waters for Atlantis. We will have the seas back. We will have them all back.
Let it therefore be known that all agreements and treaties between Atlantis and R'Lyeh are dissolved, nullified, and destroyed. Per the signs, we give the illithids the three months of spring to flee or stand as they will. After that, we march to war. We will scour the oceans of the starspawn, and take back all that is ours. There shall be no peace below the waves, until the bones of the false god Voltaron are burned upon the high altar, or the last of our race is ended.
So it has been foreseen. So shall it be done.

To the Hairless Ones Throughout the Lands of Gluttony:
The Fishies are slippery and twisty with the words. Frankly we are tired of being threatened and bullied by them. They have siezed our lands while accusing us of agression. They have published false statements about us. They have mistreated our emissaries (dressing them in motley), and, worst of all, they simply will not reveal what they look like under their robes.
In addition our Pachyderm Sychronized Swimming Troop (PSST) needs to find a practice facility. As you can imagine they need a rather large body of water - such as a river - that southeastern river would do nicely.
While we agree the wiser course would be to let Atlantis, R'leyh, and Agartha beat each other up, we are just too annoyed. In the coming months we will seek the return of our ancestor lands that were part of our nation from the first few months of our glorious rein. The lands are sacred to us. Our God, shed his blood upon them to save of those (rather wet) lands.
Of course the monkeys are always willing to listen to people from other lands. We would like nothing better then a peaceful existance where we could eat our bananas in peace. But do not send us threats. Threats make monkeys mad.
Sincerely,
The Monkeys, Snakes and Elephants

I've received a pm from Man, due to real life consideration they will be bowing out after taking this turn. I'll be looking for a sub, it would help if everyone help look for one too.

I will request moderator to close my sub-request thread and ask either of the two other admins (Not sure who you are, Bon never told me) to repost the sub thread (you can copy my thread or make your own), it should draw less fire if I'm not the one posting.
I'll submit my request to the mods later today.

I vote to start a sub thread asap. Patala is an important spot that'll throw the balance of the game right out if left alone.
We can add a disclaimer that Patala won't be confirmed Mia until tommorrow hosting time (so in 30 hrs or so) in case he comes back, you never know if a player just wants to cut it close.
Otherwise if he really doesn't show and don't think it's worth 30 seconds of his time to give us a heads up then we don't have to feel bad about it.
I would ask someone else to make the thread this time though, mine may get sabotaged.
I can attest to seeing (well, and fighting) rudras, siddhas and the usual 4 armed or lute playing goodies, I think there's a market for late late game patala with all the goodies and very solid position, sub shouldn't be that hard to find.

Awund, while your hit really hurt (applause :o ! Though I still suspect a puppet master ;)) I would never bail out from losing and always fight to the last to the point when I can make no difference as an AI. I do derive some small bit of satisfaction from exacting a price from my malefactors.
The problem is I can make good on my commitment against humans, but when its the server kicking your @$$, there's nothing I can do, no matter how good I do and what plans I have in progress, the server can (and did, and probably will continue to) screw me at any time. I can handle it once, but now that it's shown itself to be a persistent problem there's no point in playing this game against the server. This stale KILLED me (I don't even have to look at my turn), and it just pisses me off when I'm on the ball checking server time, doing diplo, planning, grand plans half in motion and generally playing a decent game, then get ****** by the server, again, with more to come down the line. It's like playing chess with a lunatic, who throws the rules out the window and shoves it's king up your *** while screaming "CHECKMATE! CHECKMATE!" (pardon my analogy).
Luckily the timer issue is just for this game (I have no timer problem on the other games), so I figure I can just drop this bugged game and cross my fingers it won't happen to my others.
I appreciate the free server llamabeast provides and am impressed how stable it is. Inevitably these little hiccup happens (that's why it's called bugs, impossible to exterminate :bug:), this hiccup in particular makes this specific game frustrating for me.
I realize I could keep track of the hosting interval myself, and I may have to go with that here if I continue (and sometimes I forget the last hosting time, or not sure when exactly it was hosted...). I rely on the timer at llamaserver and I really do use most/all of the time available planning diplo and planning moves (I have a gemflow forecast and spreadsheet for Gluttony for god's sake). Thus having a bad timer is a killer on me. You could say I'm whining and probably be half right, but the fact is a bad timer makes it hard for me to play and supremely frustrating given the effort I put in.
I did pm llamabeast about it, hopefully he can pinpoint what the problem is. If this problem can be fixed I'd that'd be great, I have no qualm getting my behind handed to me by humans, just not the server.
I didn't consider rollback actually, as it seems by general consensus to be a bad idea from what I read from the vets. I'm not sure what problem can come from rollback, so do tell if anyone knows... But if everyone is good with it though I definitely would want it to be honest. Meanwhile I'll see what luck I have in fixing the server timer (maybe impose on one of you to post server host time you see in forum? :( As it sometimes don't show up right for me).

It's okay, I'm not looking for compensation. It seems from replies in your thread that I can't get a rollback without the risk of ruining it for someone/everyone, I'm satisfied with the verdict, thanks for your efforts sanj! It's just not meant to be.
Should I look for a sub or are we okay with me turning AI? If AI I'll use 1 turn to pay back (or try to) what I owe before going AI, I won't be do anything with the turn except send out gems/items, so feel free to pick over the lean carcass and grab some freebie provs.
I hope it doesn't seem like I'm bailing out here, I am more then happy to fight a doomed war to the bitter end and get some good bruises from human players (and hopefully give some), whereas putting time + effort into a game that stales me out of the blue (twice) due to a bug is too painful to put up with and continue investing efforts into, I hope everyone understands. I suppose now that I'm aware of the timer bug for this game I can compensate in various ways to prevent future server screws if I stayed, but the damage has already been done and I can't find the will to pick up the pieces for a second time.
Edit: no reply from llama regarding the timer issue yet, but anyway it should no longer be one once I'm out of this game.

Sorry - I don't want to be a staller. I guess I need to start jotting down the deadline in EST so I don't screw up again.

Could I please get a 12 hour extension for the current turn? I thought it was due on monday, but I can't get it in before very late this evening.

I may or may not have extended the turn. That is, I told it to postpone hosting, and it said it would, but the server still lists the turn as being due Sunday, and the admin log doesn't show the postponement. So your guess is as good as mine on when it'll host.

I'm seeing 16:35 GMT on Sunday January 30th as the host time, but I smell another timer glitch so don't trust that, someone else can confirm whether this (new? I don't recall the original host time) hosting time matches what they see.
On another note, after finally checking my turn and doing it with just tying up loose ends and other commitments in mind, I ended up doing the turn with some diplo correspondence on the side. I'll skip to just say that the mad dreams still call to me and I'll shamelessly stay, There is also a new loose end requiring payback to ensure we settle all our debt.

I've turned quickhost off, this is so I can submit a proto-turn before a finalized one. In case I get screwed again by the timer I'll at least have a half done turn submitted.
Please don't turn quickhost on! I'll force host if all the turns are in before hosting time (Unless you also submitted half-turns, in which case please post here to not force host).

I am hoping to have my laptop connected to wifi tonight.
Currently my power has been off since Tuesday. My house is sub-40 right now and we have had to relocate.
I'll post as soon as I'm able to send in a turn.
(I'm at work now - internet but no Dom3)

I'll extend by 24 hrs if Mauxe couldn't get turn in by deadline. I'm seeing 13:25 GMT on Sunday February 6th as deadline, if you see otherwise let me know or I might miss extending.
Also looks like Man is at risk of puffing, I'll pm and look for sub if needed.

Caught your message just in time here, as the game's scheduled to host in 15 minutes or so. I delayed it by 24 for now, if you need the full 72 we can probably do that.
Stepping back a bit, I'd also like to take a look at the long view here. It seems unlikely that any one player is going to destroy everyone else in the near future. And aside from that, do we have any real victory conditions? I freely admit that I'm a bit out of my depth at this point in the game, and I don't really know if there's a way things are usually brought to a close.

I presume usually there's a clear front runner (and usually beating any last real alliance facing them) that everyone accepts as the victor if there is no will to continue.
In this case that has yet to happen, I'd think of it as the best is yet to come. Aside from Agartha (and well, Ryleh defensively) everyone is sitting tight, I assume if one of the sitters makes a move the pace will really pick up. Of course I'm sure this game dragged on for longer then most of us thought, it would be perfectly good to find a sub if you're tired of it.
I'm finding this game the most educational in endgame tactics by multiples compared to any other game though, maybe it's because I get 10x the action compared to those other games. Things I picked up here is really serving me in other games...

I will freely admit that this is deep-end end-game 101 for me.
Definitely a but overwhelming to come into an empire like this as a sub and maintain any type of momentum.
I'm working through it all though and I'm hoping the game continues until the point of Armageddon.

Now I'm suitably confused
I'll stay on the safe side and can just barely stick to the 14:30 deadline, and at least I have a half turn sent in case the Thing goes down.

*OOC* It seems there's a slight chance we'll have to look for sub. I'll pm the relevant parties to check for pulse, expect game on hold on the very improbably chance that a sub will be needed.

I'm seeing:
Next turn due: 17:41 GMT on Thursday March 3rd
for the next hosting, correct me if I'm wrong
My PMs to Awund(Man) and Mauxe(Patala) have not elicit a response yet though I have seen Mauxe post in another thread after I sent out the PM, I will extend turn by 24 hrs and post a sub seeking thread around when the turn is originally supposed to host.
I believe we should put the game on hold until subs can be found for Man and Patala once we're sure they really are silent quitting by tommorrow.

My apologies to FG and all. I thought my last PM to you was just prior(within) this current turn. I do not keep a sent copy so I cannot verify that. (though I wish I did on a number of occasions.. is there a way to set that as default rather than needing to remember to check the box?). Although I did see your PM early this morning I had in my mind that I would be finishing my turn today and would address it then.
Sorry again :(
