View Full Version : Casting Returning During Assassination

If my horror-marked astral mage is attacked by a horror and he's scripted to cast Returning, will he be returned to my capital fort? I ask, because I thought I'd read here that retreating during an assassination attempt equals death. If that's true, I wasn't sure if casting Returning equals retreating.
Thanks!

returning works against assassinations, in fact, that's 1 of the primary uses of this spell. it's not considered as a retreat, it's a teleport spell, hence it works as you think(hope) it does.

Yup, it works fine, unless you get attacked by a shadow seer, than you're screwed...

Why is he screwed then? If he's attacked casts returning, he's gone before the seer can act.
Do they have some weird power I don't know about?

Low-hp mages tend to not trigger gem usage. So, screwed.

afaik, returning is one of the spells that always goes off no matter what the opposition strength is.

You are mistaken. Shadow Seers are the golems' nightmare. As well as deep seers, btw.
But I'm still not sure this behavior is tied to hp. IIRC, Arch Theurgs have 8 hp normally, but golem can escape. Maybe it is some calculated value of "relative power" what matters when spending gems on returning.

game calculates an "overkill" value, which you can see in the debug log. You could run tests to find out at which point gem use was no longer triggered.

Follow up question: what happens if you cast returning in an assassination battle in your own capital?

Returning works fine in any case unless your capital is conquered.
