It isn't clear from the description if Arcane Nexus actually makes other mages's casting and manufacturing more expensive by stealing their gems.

Anyone have some insight on that?

It doesn't change the cost for other mages casting.

It just grabs half the gems after they're used, converts them into Astral pearls and gives them to you.

it's lots of fun, because everytime they cast a spell, they're making you stronger.

Whilst we're on the subject, if someone successfully dispells your nexus, do you still get half the pearls from their dispel casting?

No. Partly because it doesn't collect from Astral (or Blood) spells.

Mostly because it doesn't give you anything on the turn it's dispelled.
Which is OK, because it does collect on the turn it goes up, before anyone knows it's there and tries to limit their casting.

Are we sure it's 1/2? I haven't really parsed it, but it certainly feels closer to 1/4 to me.

Either way, it's amazing...my favorite game-ending spell.

It's 1/4.
I reconcile the description as "captures half the gems used and converts them by alchemy to pearls." Converting them cuts the number in half again.

Edit: unless you have *NINJAS* on your side...and then who knows how many gems they're hiding???

The manual lists the spell as 1/4 iirc. So that would be a rare instance of the manual being right and the ingame description not being right. :)

It depends on how you interpret it. You get half the gems and then you convert them into astral gems resulting in 1/4 the amount of gems spent as astral gems.
