I made a mini flag mod. It covers all the flags for all OOB nations from Jan 1930 to Dec 1946.

The mini flags are almost one third of the size of the standard flags, so hardly block unit icons at all.

Mini flags are located above unit icons, instead of below, and are roughly the size flag an AFV, infantry or cavalry unit may fly, so look like they belong with the unit.

Download
Download the attached zip file: Cross Mini ID Flags 1.0.zip

Installation
1. Unzip the ‘Cross Mini ID Flags 1.0’ folder to your desktop.
2. Go into the folder and copy or move the 2 ‘shp’ files into the games 'GRAPHICS' folder, and ‘replace all’.

Before you replace the original files, I recommend backing them up, by renaming them Icon0097.orig.shp, Icon0098.orig.shp or moving them to a folder called Original ID Flag Icons or something.

Your Graphics folder is located here:
WinSPWW2/Game Data/Graphics

Only these two files are modified:

Icon0097.shp
Icon0098.shp

Shrapnel Mod Advisory:
This mod only changes the flag icons, so can be installed mid-battle with no PBEM, security or OOB problems.

However, this mod is not endorsed or supported by Shrapnel Games or The Camo Workshop. Here's their advisory on mods:

"This mod contains highly altered or additional files that may or will cause interference with the master game files and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that this mod be installed and played ONLY in a separate copy of the game and NOT run from the master game"

Acknowledgment:
I based this mod on some work Lahtinen did in 2006 when he reduced the standard flags by about 40%. This mod goes a little further, reducing the standard flags by about 60%.

Thanks Cross:)!

Btw, are you going to do same to SPMBT flags too? Or leave them as Lahtinen (if I remember right)did?

I have no plans to mod the MBT ID flags. I mostly play WW2 and really don’t have the time.

If someone was interested in doing the MBT flags, I would be willing to assist in any way I can; including technical help and providing some flag art. Just send me a PM or email.

BTW...Don’t install this mod into MBT because it uses some different flags. You’ll have Leopard MBTs driving across the map with Swastikas flying above them

I believe Lahtinen’s MBT ID Flag mod is still available online, and might be what you’re looking for. But you may want to check to make sure the standard flags weren’t changed/updated since his mod came out in 2006.

I took a look at Lahtinen's mod. The only change since his mod came out, is the Imperial Iran flag (pre 1979 revolution) was added to the game in 2007, MBT version 4.0).

I added the Iranian flag to Lahtinen's mod, and I'll post it over on the MBT forum.
