View Full Version : In a bit of a rut...

I've gotten into a bit of an MP rut. I've been playing quite a bit of Marverni, EA Caelum, and MA Marignon in my MP games. I'm looking for something a bit different to play. I was looking to play Helheim, but one of my opponents has chosen them to become a bit of an expert with them. Any other suggestions?

You could try out one of the water nations, they are quite a bit different.

Any preference on era?

Gosh, there are so many interesting nations to choose from! How about browsing Baalz's guides?

hat's what I've done. Nothing popping out at me though. I prefer EA over the other eras.

How does fomoria sound?

Doesn't Fomoria and Helheim play fairly similarly?

I named fomoria because they had certain similarities with helheim, yes. But there's some differences, too. Anyway it seemed like an interesting direction to go if you want to play helheim but can't.

Isn't fomoria a bit of a cross between Helheim and Niefelheim? You have glamored troops with some giants sprinkled in?

Fomoria is more like giants with glamoured troops sprinkled in ;) They are an air/death nation with some water/death minor, big sacred giants, and some cap-only recruitable glamoured troops (which are not sacred, excepting the nemedian champion). Anyway the entire point of the suggestion is to be as helheim-like as possible without being helheim. At least magic-wise. You could always go for vanheim if you were going for the glamour angle. Or TNN.

I wasn't sure what to do with EA Vanheim. They were the first nation I played, and I used to run a F9W9 bless, but after having more experience under my belt, I'm not sure how to play them where someone can't do what they do better...

TNN I have looked at a couple of times. I am entrigued, but I don't see the synergies. Air and nature with little death or astral means very little end game. However, playing 3-5 player games, we rarely get into end game situations anyway.

Yes and no. More like "you have crap giants with some glamoured troups sprinkled in". You've got some recruitable (and very nice) glamour cap only infantry, but probably won't have the resources to buy them because you want to hire as many (also cap-only) Unmarked sacred giants as you can.

You've also got glamoured Morrigans which you should really get to ASAP because they're bad-***, but they require Conj 6 Const 4 and 1 mage/turn each so they're really not as fast out the gate as Helhirdlings are. Finally, Fomoria has no blood.
So, really, not much in common with Helheim :)
