That's really ominous

Admiral_Aorta
January 31st, 2011, 09:48 PM
I thought you said the timer was turned off? It seems to be on 48 hours. Also, when I connect to the server the game hangs and I have to close it with the task manager, but when I try again it's fine.

iRFNA
January 31st, 2011, 10:02 PM
I have that problem too! And I emailed gandalf about it, it'll happen when he does it. I don't actually have direct control of the server, it's just that gandalf is usually so insanely prompt that my requests are answered within minutes.

NaivePhilosopher
January 31st, 2011, 10:39 PM
I dunno about Ryleh, but I'm willing to declare a truce so that our newest sub (thanks btw!) can get his feet under him. The situation otherwise would be fairly grim. Also short, unless I drastically miss my guess, which is just no fun at all.

Thanatus del Dragos
January 31st, 2011, 11:09 PM
It really doesn't matter, almost no research has been done, the pretender is a joke, the comanders that have been hired are among the worst independents have to offer...I have almost no mages...its truly amazing.

iRFNA
January 31st, 2011, 11:14 PM
Ouch. Well, it's a newb game. On the bright side, I was considering starting up another newb game somewhat soon, so maybe you could hop on that later for a full game instead of a massacre.

Thanatus del Dragos
January 31st, 2011, 11:19 PM
Eh, I'm okay trying to fend off the attacks until I am massacred, lol. But, there is no reason to let off of me to give me a chance, the nation has fallen way too far behind to make that worthwile.

Admiral_Aorta
January 31st, 2011, 11:22 PM
Well, I'll continue to massacre you then. :D I'm surprised that the position was that hopeless, but then it is a newb game. That's one disadvantage to having graphs off, you overestimate your opponent. On the other hand, they may overestimate you.

NaivePhilosopher
February 1st, 2011, 03:43 AM
Alright, just thought I'd make the offer. I subbed into a fairly hopeless position over in another game recently, so I know the feeling. Also, yes, I'm a bit surprised at just how hopeless it is as well, though the mind hunting there at the end might have a bit to do with the commander selection, anyway.

lwarmonger

I've been having the hanging thing upon login happen as well, every time. I found that my firewall was interfering, which is unusual, since it hadn't been before.

Admiral_Aorta
February 1st, 2011, 04:16 AM
I wonder if it's been caused by the recent patch? I can't think of anything else and it seems to be happening to quite a few people. Have any other multiplayer games had the same thing?

NaivePhilosopher
February 1st, 2011, 09:54 AM
I was having that problem until last night at some point; it works fine for me now. Very odd.

Gandalf Parker
February 1st, 2011, 10:05 AM
Sometimes it can be at the server end. Doing a traceroute (or in windows its a tracert) can be helpful in pointing out if things are a problem at your end, the other end, or any of the connections in-between.

iRFNA
February 2nd, 2011, 05:38 PM
Ok, once everyone shows that they are alive, I'll have gandalf put the timer back on. No idea who all might have been affected beyond NaivePhilosopher, although there is that massive cyclone at australia going on too...

Admiral_Aorta

iRFNA
February 4th, 2011, 03:11 PM
Ok, since the last 2 posts are the last 2 people without a turn in, I'm gonna guess everyone is ready to go back to 48 hour hosting.

Admiral_Aorta
February 4th, 2011, 05:20 PM

Thanatus del Dragos
February 4th, 2011, 05:52 PM

Admiral_Aorta

I think 24 hours would be a bit tight, since we've got people in different timezones.

Thanatus del Dragos

Okay, just throwing that out there :)

48 hours for me, sometimes I have to work really long days and I could easily forget. :(

If everyone just tries to submit really fast, we can essentially have 24 hour host! Sorta.

Really sorry about the stalling, I'm an idiot, won't happen again. New to MP games. Sorry.

Hey, every time I connect to the server my dom3 crashes and hangs. Anyone else having trouble or just me?

iRFNA
February 6th, 2011, 02:20 PM
I've had that prob off and on and others have posted about it... When it happens, I just crash dom and try again. Usually works the 2nd time.

Thanatus del Dragos
February 6th, 2011, 02:46 PM
Yea, usually works the second time for me. rarely do I have to try a third time and never a fourth.

iRFNA

freepower

On the other hand, excited for future developments! :D

Ya, that stale sucks. Sorry about that, I should have tried to have gandalf restart the server earlier.

Huh, gift of health got dispelled quickly.

Thanatus del Dragos

Admiral_Aorta
February 12th, 2011, 10:45 PM
I don't think me or Pythium are particularly distracted, since Vanheim is just a besieged fort, although the outcome of Bogarus and Hinnom's war will be interesting.

(sigh)... 18 marshmasters... 15 of them scripted to spam undead for as long as they can... precisely 1 does it. Now most of them are dead. Not that they didn't earn it for disobeying me, I would have just rather they had obeyed my scripted orders and won. Anyone got any clues as to why this is happening? I know Man noticed that there was a distinct lack of undead coming at him as well. All those marshmasters casting the wonderful personal protection spells they have as they hang out in the rear, rather than creating masses of undead chaff to wear down our enemies at the same time that poison is sapping his ability to resist.

Admiral_Aorta
February 17th, 2011, 12:49 AM
Sometimes the AI decides that the enemy army isn't strong enough to waste scripted spells on.

Peacekeeper
February 17th, 2011, 01:27 AM
the way the morrigans dropped right on those marshmasters .. i dont think hte undead would have helped.

lwarmonger
February 17th, 2011, 01:36 AM
Masses of undead would have gone straight for the morrigans... once the script ran out the mages would have started casting damaging spells while the morrigans were tied up. Fifteen marshmasters spamming undead can do a hell of a lot of tying up, even from point blank range.

Peacekeeper
February 17th, 2011, 03:00 AM

theyd start casting protection spells til they were all over 100 fatigue. =)

lwarmonger
February 17th, 2011, 09:55 PM
Which is my issue. I want my mages following the script that I set for them! Once that script runs out they can do what they want. Protection spells for a mage that will never be much of a combatant are worthless. Regardless, they weren't even euphamerally acquianted to the script I set them, so it became irrellavant.

That was a monstrous battle, eh Bogey?

It seems that Hell Power actually horror marks the caster as well, I was rather hoping to massively buff my prophet, cast hell power, then horror mark Bogarus's forces.

If nothing else, this game has taught me -

CBM Hinnom < Native Hinnom
Magic Diversity > focusing on national troops

Quell

Yeah, that was an epic battle. Once again I lost a ton of communion slaves to fatigue :/. Drain and heat dominion sure was on your side, Hinnom.

Yeah, I had a horrible moment at one point where I realised I basically had no decent way of getting into evocation-spam - in Native Baals are pretty good casters. Also, my whole blood economy was like, meganerfed. XD

Anyway, next time I'll just wait like 3 more turns and get my Lords of Civilisation up, I didn't suspect you had a force of that magnitude about and I thought I could delay you more with raiding melquarts. :(

iRFNA

General declaration from Pythium to Bogarus,

Though I would very much prefer to avoid a war on two fronts, the growing might of Bogarus is not something that I'm able to avoid any longer. Though Man clings to his capital with ferocity, the armies of Pythium shall also be turning west, to the empire of Bogarus.

Incidentally, I have a feeling that this is a terrible idea, but it's the best one I have left at this point.

iRFNA

Sorry about those shishis Pythium, I didn't realize you were attacking that province.

They haven't been very useful, largely as a result of my failure to utilize them properly. I like the surprise though

That hurt. A lot

Admiral_Aorta

I think I noticed that. One turn you had a big army, the next, Bogarus had an extra province.

Quell

Ouch. Too bad there was no province to retreat to, be more careful next time ;)

retarded king didnt cast dance of the morrigans, lost me that fight. I hate the AI in this game...

Quell

Bummer. I also had some problems when my whole main army wouldn't move for several turns because earth attack spell was cast at it. Well maybe that's not a bug, but still very annoying :D

NaivePhilosopher
March 11th, 2011, 01:42 PM
That blocks movement? Huh. Well, the more you know.

Quell
March 11th, 2011, 07:18 PM
Well I don't know if that's the reason for my army being stuck, but it's the only one I came up with

NaivePhilosopher
March 12th, 2011, 03:25 PM
Well, I'm almost certain that turn will end up sealing my fate. Enjoy the free 144 astral pearls+gear, Bogarus.

ya, im pretty much beaten in the north. I could only defeat his armies so many times with my 1 and i dont have the resources to replace what i lost over the 4-5 big fights.

Anyone against just calling Quell and Bogarus the winner at this point?

I will if everyone else will.

I'm still fighting down in the south on land, but once he forces me out there's not much I can do from the water.

iRFNA
March 12th, 2011, 05:33 PM
Ya, there's not much I can do either. I'm only alive because NaivePhilosopher can't afford to kill me.

I kinda want to have a climactic final battle, so I'll concede once Bogarus captures my fort in province 11. Have at you!

NaivePhilosopher
March 13th, 2011, 09:38 AM
Alright then, let's make a game of it. Now would probably be a good time to experiment on some stuff anyway.

Admiral_Aorta

The game is drawing to a close, so a hero who would have been really useful about 50 turns ago decides to turn up now. Brilliant.

And that's me out. I concede defeat to Bogarus. It's been a good game. It would have been nice if my troll king stayed on script, though.

Thanks :) i had a lot of fun too. I must say this game was a real challenge and i really learned a lot because of that.

Yeah, I'll be conceding as well. Great job Quell; your communions put mine to shame. I couldn't seem to win a single fight that was on a remotely even level (then I accidentally handed you my Seraph  ) Still, I had a lot of fun and I learned quite a bit; I'm really glad I ended up subbing into this game and it was a blast playing with all of you.

iRFNA, you should organise another game, since this one went so well and the other one is going good(though not for me).

Yea, start a new game, I don't feel that I had a good chance to show what I am made of in this one...

I will soon. I've been messing around with CPCS (http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/index.php?showtopic=55), might give it a whirl in the next game.

I have to confess that the blood slaves that I was using at the end there were somewhat illicitly acquired. It turns out that while you can't normally blood hunt underwater(because of the option not appearing in the menu), you can still do it using the keyboard shortcut.
