The only rule is that there are no rules! Well, besides that you should be a newb, using the rough definition of 10 or less MP games. Or whatever.

I'd like to join this game as EA R'yleh if that's ok. Just one question, what port is this game using, since I couldn't find it on the list of games on the server?

iRFNA
December 1st, 2010, 09:27 PM
I'll PM the port number to you, feel free to upload your pretender whenever.

Oops, you don't have private messages enabled. Might wanna do that since diplomacy is often conducted via PMs on the forums due to the relative ease compared to ingame messages.

Admiral_Aorta
December 1st, 2010, 09:49 PM
Right, I've enabled them now.

rabelais
December 2nd, 2010, 02:13 AM
If you are using the canonical Aran I suggest 150% money.

possibly 150% prod+supplies

I believe the map even mentions this itself, now.

Also potentially higher magic sites. with no hammers you may need a little extra.

iRFNA
December 2nd, 2010, 04:19 PM
I guess I could switch it to parganos if aran seems to have too many wastelands, it could suck to be stuck with them. I'm aware of the CBM 1.7 changes and the magic site rate is intentional.

Admiral_Aorta
December 2nd, 2010, 05:51 PM
I think I'd prefer Parganos, but I'm playing a water nation so I may be biased. ;)

iRFNA
December 2nd, 2010, 06:18 PM
Haha, I'm fine with that, although another water nation joining the fray may cramp your style.

I'm not gonna restart the server itself with the new map yet, just to see if other people who join also agree with the decision or have other input. I will change the description to llama's parganos map, however. We obviously won't be using the dead seas version, no matter how amusing of a start that would be.

lwarmonger
December 3rd, 2010, 07:53 PM
I'll play. MA C'tis if you don't mind.

iRFNA
December 3rd, 2010, 10:49 PM
Alright, 5 to go.

freepower
December 4th, 2010, 11:27 PM
Can I be EA Hinnom? This'll be my first ever MP game, erp. Looking forward to it! :D

Sure... I hope I'm eaten first.

December 5th, 2010, 05:58 PM
I'd like to play LA Bogarus. Would be my second game :)

iRFNA
December 5th, 2010, 06:07 PM
Gotcha, 3 to go. I've never looked at the bogarus units before.. Your nation is damn creepy.

Peacekeeper
December 5th, 2010, 06:56 PM
ill take on EA Fomoria, this being my 4th mp game of dominions 3.

iRFNA
December 5th, 2010, 09:17 PM
freepower, could you enable private messages? It's both for the minor sending of the port number but also for conducting diplomacy throughout the game.

krpeters
December 5th, 2010, 10:02 PM
If you're still looking for players, I'd like to take EA Vanheim out for a spin.

This is my 3rd game, and I didn't last very long in the first two.

iRFNA
December 5th, 2010, 10:06 PM
Ok, one more slot to go.

bgifu
December 5th, 2010, 11:27 PM
MA Pythium please.

iRFNA
December 5th, 2010, 11:33 PM
Ok, all slots filled! Everyone has had the port number PMed except freepower, so I'll send that once he enables them. Everyone go ahead and upload your pretenders

krpeters
December 6th, 2010, 06:56 PM
So, where are we at now? Waiting for people to upload pretenders?

iRFNA
December 6th, 2010, 07:18 PM
Ya, once lwarmonger and freepower have their pretenders in, we're ready to go.

Peacekeeper
December 7th, 2010, 01:44 PM
cmon ya bums, time to upload those pretenders.

iRFNA
December 7th, 2010, 06:10 PM
Well, during this calm before the storm, I'd like to ask anyone that wants to quit mid-game to please say so in the thread and not go AI. Let me find a sub if possible. Even if you're frustrated cause you started between hinnom and vanheim and the rapetrain haven't brakes.

lwarmonger
December 7th, 2010, 11:30 PM
Ok, this is the first game I have played on my new computer, and the last one I played was before I went to Iraq over a year ago. There is no saved games file in the Dominions 3 directory, and having searched my entire hard drive I am at a loss as to where dominions is storing those things. I tried creating a save game folder, but without knowing exactly what it is supposed to be called I can't save a pretender to it from the creation screen. I was wondering exactly what your all savegame folder is called?

iRFNA
December 7th, 2010, 11:33 PM
The folder is dom3 folder\savedgames\newlords\

Although, wherever it happens to be saving your pretender doesn't matter, since you just log into direct connect, find your nation, and pick it? If you have more than one pretender for that nation, there's a list to choose from, otherwise it immediately activates you with your singular god.

lwarmonger
December 8th, 2010, 01:04 AM
Sweet. It is saving it somewhere, but hell if I can find it. Anyway, pretender uploaded.

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 01:10 AM
Alright, now it's just freepower, who sadly hasn't even logged in since he made his single post...

Peacekeeper
December 8th, 2010, 01:56 AM
Alright, now it's just freepower, who sadly hasn't even logged in since he made his single post...

sounds like its time to find a replacement. did he ever turn his PMs on?

Admiral_Aorta
December 8th, 2010, 03:54 AM
Huh, you'd think he'd at least wait for the game to start before going AI.

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 06:28 PM
Well, because 7 people seems too few for this map and it gives freepower a bit more time to appear, I'm going to open up one extra slot. If someone joins up, uploads their pretender, and we're all good to go... then we have 8 people. If freepower reappears in the meantime, we get 8 or 9 depending. Sound good?

krpeters
December 8th, 2010, 06:47 PM
Sounds good to me -- as long as it doesn't take too long to find a replacement.

I seem to recall similar startup trouble in the last two games I played. What's the usual time to start a game once it's announced, about two weeks or so?

Cerlin
December 8th, 2010, 06:50 PM
I would be interested in playing. Is the faction already locked?

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 07:03 PM
You can pick any nation that isn't taken. In case freepower makes a miraculous appearance, that includes his choice of EA Hinnom.

Cerlin
December 8th, 2010, 07:23 PM
Ok I will be EA Tir na n'Og. I will send my pretender asap.

Hello there. :o

It seems thread notification works slightly differently to the other forums I'm signed up to.

I got the reply to my post and then hadn't got a peep since, decided to pop in just to check. Thanks very much for waiting, very kind of you to ignore the first epic noobfail of the game.

Or pregame even.

( :o )

Creating Pretender now, sending asap (within the hour for sure), hold the presses etc.

iRFNA

You are all gentlemen of the first order for waiting, even the squishy things and necrolizards.

Just to check - I presume "instant" email notification sends you an email every time there's fresh posts? I got a notification of your post and PM, just seem to have missed any info between you welcoming me to the game and the game almost starting... >.>

Are we using any multipliers on anything?

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 08:34 PM
I have no idea, I've never used that stuff...

As far as multipliers, it's all default besides 35% magic sites (LA rate).

Yeah, email notification seems totally fine now, and I seem to have had no problems with the mods, pretender submission, whatever. Looking forward to playing with all of you rather than the AI. :P

IE, ready to go, have submitted pretender! :D

Made some interesting (I haven't tried em before :P ) choices design wise, and honestly have no idea if they'll play out. I wouldn't even know what standard MP play is, although I've read the noob guides and such.

Hey, I'm all about welcoming people into my home... my disease ridden, swampy, festering home. Welcome!

Thank you, and feel free to visit my desolate wastelands anytime for a cup of blood and a few biscuits. ^_^

And once again, thank you all for your patience, can't wait! :D

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 09:21 PM
Server is up, let the game begin! Gandalf says a "cheat notice" is an error about mismanaged mods or something, so if that happens to you, post about it and we can work it out.

May the worst player win!

Admiral_Aorta
December 8th, 2010, 10:21 PM
Do those crowns on the map indicate starting provinces?

iRFNA
December 8th, 2010, 10:28 PM
No, from what I understand, they are victory points. Although since we aren't using VP capping as a way to win, they will only function as a 5 dom "temple" for spreading your dom. So they are mostly useless.

freepower
December 9th, 2010, 05:17 PM

iRFNA

freepower
December 9th, 2010, 08:38 PM
Goodness, learning interesting things here. :)

Maybe he's Dom10? I seem to get a pretty reliable ring of single candles from that.

Also, I noticed that random events seem more painful in CBM. I'm starting to wonder if luck is still a good choice given the number of barbarian raids it brings (greater chance of events).

freepower
December 9th, 2010, 09:03 PM
There are some amazing positive events though, like that one that gives 3k gold, a lab and a huge pile of gems.

C'tissan Swamps are spreading. Very soon we'll have a sphere of influence marked out.

Well, I think the typical lingo is that a NAP 10 means a 10 turn warning before breaking it, and it lasts indefinitely until then. I could be wrong. Of course, there's no rules in this game like "you've gotta stick with your diplomacy" so everyone's words are worth very little.

Besides mine. Aliens, mutants, heretics: beware.

Hey, Cerlin, if you're still reading this thread. Ya, it sucks, you got hinnomed. Greater men have fell to lesser things. But there's always another game, and people really appreciate those who play to the bitter end. Personally, when I lose (ok so that's one whopping time but this is a god damn newbie game so what do you expect) I just try to **** over the next best competition to whoever ruined my day by sending gems, trying for a last crippling strike (ok i only wish i could have done that but i got totally raped), whatever. Or just die with grace, or just barely put up a fight and hit end turn. Whatever. But people still really appreciate that, and it's better than getting a reputation as someone who flakes out as soon as they lose a battle. So use whatever crazy glitter fairy troops you have and sneak around and screw someone over or whatever. I dunno, maybe I'm kinda drunk. But still, don't just stale out, remember that there are 8 other people playing this game!

Admiral_Aorta
January 6th, 2011, 04:15 AM
I hope this isn't going to be a trend, going AI is the coward's way out, even if you are getting eaten by Hinnom. Perhaps we should pledge not to go AI if we're losing?

freepower

Gandalf Parker
January 6th, 2011, 11:34 AM
Actually the game can have a "players cannot go AI" lock on it.
Its one of the choices of the person running the game can add to the game settings. If a player goes AI it stops everything and gives the person running the game a chance to back out of it to get a sub instead, or allow it to go thru.

iRFNA
January 6th, 2011, 07:20 PM
Ya, I didn't pick that option to save you at least some of the micromanagement troubles. I figure that, with a good faith system, someone will only go AI when they are truly and utterly doomed. So that it won't make much of a difference whether there is a player at the helm or not. Whether or not that is the case, I have no idea.

Obviously, I'd prefer that people play to the bitter end. It's what I intend to do. And I think all the current players have been fairly active in this thread, and that bodes well on the whole "bailing for no reason" front. I'll just say again like I did earlier, if you want to quit but there may somehow be something to salvage, say so in the thread and let me find a sub!

I was actually surprised that I managed to get your army, given that I have to guess where it is because of glamour. Also, I have a few surplus earth gems that I'd be willing to trade with someone for water gems or astral pearls.

I requested for gandalf to toss the time limit for now while I look for a sub. Also because I requested to myself to kill the time limit in case I end up trapped in a snowy tomb. If such a thing were to happen, and I disappear for a few weeks, could someone cast Hidden In Snow at illinois (21)?

That was fast, we have a sub already. Thanks Thanatus del Dragos!

Still doing the no time limit thing for the time being, though.

I'm glad we got a sub, that'll be much better to fight than an AI.
