As a neighbor and enemy of LA Ermor, I agree on waiting to find a sub. I hate major wars against AIs.
iRFNA

This is very unfortunate. I think we may be approaching the point of waiting for a sub so long it causes other people to drop out of the game...

you said he lost his pretender right? that means that there is no difference even if you set him to AI. So I vote for Ai whenever people are ready to get the game going.
iRFNA

I'm less averse to setting LA ermor to AI in particular anyway because, in my experience, that is the nation the AI plays the best hands down. Still sucks compared to a sub, though.

This is true. Honestly if it comes down to set one nation AI vs. find subs for multiple nations, I'd rather that we set the one nation to AI.

Yeah, I think he should be set AI, we're not going to find a sub and it's just holding up the game.

Ok, it seems we've got a sub, and having someone more skilled playing ermor is something I find amusing. If ermor sweeps the lands with bones and death, that'd be pretty awesome. Anyway, emailing gandalf to restart the timer.

Greetings everyone!
As the new field marshal of this crumbling empire, I ask u to shed light on diplomatic agreements involving my precedessor. Since our god has been banished and we have no contact with it, could any of you - who have seen him/her/it - how it looked like? just to help us recognize him in case we find him again.
very nice nice map, i have never played on it!

The ermor god was a lord of the gates with either 4 or 6 in 4 paths.. air, fire, death.. and something else?
And as far as I know, all your land fairing neighbors hate you, and probably the ones at sea too.

"hungry vultures"?
O Lord of the Druids, I respectfully beg your pardon. We are defending ourselves against a source of evil that kills us even if not attacking with conventional armies - and actually Man was indeed invaded by the undead horde. In return, we get desolated wasteland.
It is easy to sympathize with the Late-Ermorian Abomination from a distance. But rejoice that some brave nations take the burden to fight it off, as otherwise even distance, eventually, will not protect you from all the evil magic it can release on our world. Just ask your aged druids how they would fency living under Burden of Time?

Just ask your aged druids how they would fency living under Burden of Time?
Actually, thats a good point. Kill the Undead menace!!!
(you know that when you are not involved in a conflict you usually support the underdog. But yea the Burden of Time point was very persuasive:))

That is exactly the same use of words as in every war be it agression or plain conquest: the enemy is "evil", and we are just "defending" ourselves (just like the usa in iraq or the crusades in the middle ages).
I wonder who is having invasion armies in whose provinces...

The crusades were simply taking back old Byzantine provinces for Christianity (the proper Catholic version... not that heretic Orthodox nonsense). If you really want to go into the "who took whose" land in the middle east you can go back a very long ways without really solving anything.
At the end of the day, might makes right. If you blanket the world with undead, who is going to tell you that you were too aggressive?

Hmmm well you need to connect to the server and then press end turn,
what else you can do is to connect to the server,So that the game downloads the recent turn, then play your turn not online and then log back in so that it can update your turn.

We've been experiencing this bug a few times in this game. A few people got nailed toward the start, I had it happen a few turns ago, and now you I guess.
No idea as to the cause. Did it give you any weird messages? When this bug happens, there's a message about an outdated turn file or something.
Btw, two astral windows? Voyeurs!

Orthodox Christianity was getting overrun at this point, so clearly they were heretics, which was why they were losing (God wasn't on their side). In this game though you are on your own side! So clearly the true one is going to be the victor!

I really don't like this pattern of long sub request waits resulting in someone else disappearing. Yet caelum can't possibly be set to AI, I'm not sure if there's any nation the AI does worse with. I don't really have an acceptable solution, and I guess I'm merely stating the obvious problem, but ugh. This sucks.

Actually there was no fort. But this may well be this bug.

I don't mind, but it depends on what everyone thinks. Presumably, the people taking longer need that time, but who knows.
lwarmonger
June 3rd, 2011, 09:02 PM
48 hours is a good timeframe for me. Any faster and I could occasionally have problems making my turns (although in about 3 weeks I'm going to need to get a sub for two weeks, as my unit will be in the field).
NaivePhilosopher
June 4th, 2011, 01:23 AM
I'm fine with 48 hours; if everyone gets a turn in and speeds it up a bit, great, but I'd rather avoid any more stales in this game if at all possible.
Numahr

I am going out on a 2 week field problem on the 23rd. I will probably be gone from the 23rd of June to the 9th, I will definitely be gone from the 23rd to the 5th. I will look for a sub if everyone wants, as this game has suffered quite a few delays as it is. Shouldn't be too hard as I am in a fairly strong position.

Sorry guys but I have to report yet one strange behavior: I have researched conjuration 6, however when I click on "Cast Ritual Spell" on the relevant mages, the following spells don't appear:
- Summon Roc
- Summon Zmey
(it is not like all EDM summons are bugged because Quest for the Firebird appears)
I have rebooted my computer, launched again the game several times, but I don't know what else to do...
What the heck? A whole part of a carefully designed and implemented mid-game strategy disappears :( Almost a game-breaking bug for me...
Does anyone have similar experiences with spells, or ideas for a solution???
iRFNA
June 13th, 2011, 11:02 AM
I'm not sure what to make of that.. I definitely haven't heard of it happening before. Try hitting f or a while in the spell list to filter only for fire or air magic, maybe they're just buried in the spells?

Come on now... I want to get a couple of more turns in and finish crushing Bandar Log before I have to leave. Not very sporting to mention this the day prior to you leaving either... it gives nobody time to react if the consensus is to find a sub for you.
Incidentally, I've found a sub for myself everyone. I'll keep playing until the 22nd, and then Ghill will be taking over for me. I've explained all of my current agreements (and conflicts) with my neighbors to him, I'll leave it up to him to introduce himself and whether he wishes to continue those or not. I am assuming that he will, in which case it would be nice of you all to allow your diplomatic agreements with me carry over to him. If not, I assure you that Ulm has very deep reserves with which to fight!

Did I mistake uploading my turn? I thought the game was on hold but by sending my turn (I felt bad being the only one missing even if the game is supposed to be on hold), I provoked quick host... I hope I did not screw any one.
By the way, please let me know if you reach conjuration 6 and can/cannot summon Rocs and Zmeys, this bug really annoys me and i would like to know if it is only me or maybe some unexpected consequences of the cross-path combat spells, or whatever else...?
iRFNA

It's fine about the quickhost, everyone had their turn in so it went to the next. The timer is off to prevent anyone without their turn in from getting staled on.

I will unfortunately be out of town attending to family matters from July 27th through August 2nd or 3rd. I have tried to find a way to get my turns in but under the pressing circumstances it just won't work.

to be honest I might need a big extension at some point aswell. (not that point)and since it is summer and all have RL plans I am happy with waiting up until whenever. If you can find yourself a temporary substitue that will be fine aswell.

If you guys could give me a quick rundown of your state, I can just have a mega sub and temp sub thread or something. I get the feeling, though, that there just aren't enough people around willing to sub that will make the temp subbing work, but we'll see.
Also, could jomon give me some info on yomi's state for said thread?

July 29th, 2011, 06:48 PM
So are we going to set Yomi to AI or what? With all these delays I am coming up on a period where I'll be away for another two weeks in October, and at this rate we'll be two or three turns on from where we are now. At some point we just have to either let people stale when they are going to be gone, set them to AI if they leave without coming up on the net, or make sure that everyone knows that if they will be leaving for a period that means they won't be able to play their turns the onus of finding a sub is on them (because it is or should be... this is getting rediculous). Ultimately I think this game will lose more players simply through inactivity then it will by sticking to that 48 hour (or even shifting to 72 hour) turns and not pausing the timer for every Tom, Dick and Harry who decides to leave for a week without finding a sub.
Admiral_Aorta
July 29th, 2011, 06:53 PM
I think we should just put the timer back on and let people stale, or set them AI, this is ridiculous.
iRFNA
July 30th, 2011, 03:04 PM
I have to admit to some frustration with all of the delays. I'm sorta stuck between putting the timer up now and ambushing echodyne with stales he didn't expect, but possibly to keep more people from disappearing, or at least waiting until he returns and having a stricter policy on delays starting then. As far as ragabash, I had hoped to get more info about the state of yomi for a sub thread, but evidently it is not to be.
bbz
July 30th, 2011, 06:04 PM
hmmm I can guess how many provinces he has sort of but I need to check. not a leading position but deffinately not a loosing one. Somewhere in the middle so there is still chance to get good allies and to get the game but it needs some work. If you said you'd give a delay then you should wait:). Otherwise you could be strickter in the future if you want to. I personally am fine with big delays since I might need them soon:)in 20ish days.
lwarmonger
July 31st, 2011, 02:07 AM
Here is the thing though, if we wait a week for everyone who needs a week we'll still be playing this game two years from now. I needed two weeks last month and I got a sub. A game like this you have to be ruthless insofar as progress otherwise you don't get anywhere. If we don't start making more progress though I am going to have to leave the game. I wasn't anticipating this game lasting a year or two when I entered it in March due to a weeklong delay for anyone who asks, and I am willilng to bet that others are in teh same boat here.

Some more oddities on spells (all EDM ones) in this game, at least for me:
- when I cast awake Cyclops, my gems are used but no Cyclop in view! :-(
- Great Kraken is not listed in the castable spells
I remind that I could not find Zmeys and Rocs in the castable spells on my mages. When I summoned the Firebird, also nothing came, but since it is unique I just thought someone else had cast it before, now I doubt.
Did anyone summon any EDM guys??? Or did anyone have similar problems? Come on I am not the only one interested by EMD summons in this game, and it would be nice to understand what is happening.
Admiral_Aorta
August 9th, 2011, 06:16 PM
I've summoned krakens with no problems. The firebird isn't actually unique, so I'm not sure why it didn't appear.
Numahr
August 9th, 2011, 08:01 PM
Admiral, actually I saw your kraken this turn ;)
More info on this bug: I am allowed to cast Curse of the Wendigo although I should not (I don't have the right level in thaumaturgy). When I go to "Magic", it is shown in dark gray at the right position (meaning I haven't reached it yet). And still, when I go "cast a spell", I am given the opportunity to cast it.
So I think there may be a wrong attribution of magic schools to EDM spells, for a reason I can't understand (I looked in the mod files and I don't see anything wrong). This would explain why I can cast Curse of the Wendigo, located in a school I have researched enough, but not Zmeys, located maybe in thaumaturgy. If this theory is true, zmey will unlock to me when I research the wrong school in which it is located.
Even if this is true, it does not explain why I did not get my Firebird (gosh it would have been useful against LA Ermor) and my Cyclop when I summoned them, although I got the gems spent...

August 19th, 2011, 06:02 AM
Numahr, it sounds like your version of the mod is different to that on the server. I think your list of castable spells comes from the server, and comes in the form of spell numbers. So the server says "you are allowed to cast spells 1079, 1321 etc", and your client looks those up and says you are allowed to cast Curse of the Wendigo etc., even if you shouldn't be allowed to. The spell numbers are easily different between different versions of the mod - if a single spell has been added then all subsequent spells have their numbers shifted.
Having said all that I have no idea how you can have a different version of the mod. The only case where more than one version of a mod exists is the result of my recent hotfix for duplicate weapons with the latest dom3 patch, and I did not add any spells with the hotfix. Still, see if you can get a copy of the mod from one of the other players or something.
The True Firebird is unique Admiral. Or at least it is certainly meant to be!

Oh, I bet you have a different version of CPCS. Not sure, but certainly worth checking.
llamabeast
August 19th, 2011, 06:03 AM
What do you guys think of CPCS by the way? I have been meaning to play some test games with it. I like the idea of the spells but haven't really tested them much. Is it fun?
bbz
August 19th, 2011, 05:57 PM
hmmm strange thing. The last couple of turns I've been keeping quiet hoping that it will just go away but it didn't. It all started 3 turns ago when my army didn't execute a command to move. then the next turn both my armies didnt decide to move. So I decided that if something else happens I will mention it. Apparently I staled my current turn because I submitted an old 2h file? While still not crippling I lost quite a lot of potential (land) and time while my armies have just been looking at instead of obliterating the enemy's army while it has been springing around taking territories. So if anyone could take a look at that or I don't know what but I am loosing advantages hard fought for in a blink of an eye not due to my mistake or anything so that is quite annoying. Thanks in advance.
P.s on the CPCS topic Its early to say I havent been using many of the newer spells and as we heard some of them seem to have been bugged and others seem to have bugged the other non-CPCS spells so mixed feelings. I haven't seen anything potentially overpowering in it(with the little exception of the spell that casts luck and gives AN weapons to the weaker units(but the AN weapons didnt seem to be working from what I've heard so the spell should be fine:P)) which is a good sign:)
llamabeast
August 19th, 2011, 06:34 PM
Cool. You shouldn't rake away the message that CPCS causes bugs, cos it doesn't. However if you have a different version of any mod to the server, that will cause bugs.
bbz
August 20th, 2011, 04:47 AM
yea probably that's it. Hmm still I read somewhere in this topic about the astral weapons not working as they should be but I am in no way able to judge if that is so or not(since I havent seen the battle). Also I was just under that impression (lately I didn't have much time to read in the forum so my comment was based on the cases where people have been complaining about it)but I guess it is as you said due to outdated mod version.
Numahr
August 20th, 2011, 06:34 AM
OK I will enquire along the lines mentioned by Llamabeast.
Regarding CPCS: I really like the concept. It adds a lot of depth and diversity to cambat magic, especially in that early/mid-game phase that has less diversity in combat spells. In terms of implementation, I have the following comments:
- some "fire" spells should be AP instead of AN, this is too important a difference (comment already made by someone)
- there is something wrong with "anger of god" which often gets cast by the AI although it is totally irrelevant, range-wise especially.
Numahr
August 20th, 2011, 11:05 AM
Hurrah! Thanks Llamabeast. I checked the versions of my mod, and it turned out that my CBM 1.83 was different from the one attached to the first page of this thread. Go figure out why. Anyway I replaced it and I can now summon zemys and other niceties!
I wish I had found this much earlier though. How many gems did I loose in summons that did not appear, and well, my whole strategy up to this point would have been actually implemented instead of playing with vanilla summons only...
But the main point is, that there is no bug, and every thing is solved from that point of view.

This is a bit of a conundrum. While we did agree no more delays or whatever, numahr did get pretty screwed with the summon thing (even if it was ultimately his own fault, lol)...
Has anyone been around when the turn ends to see who's staling? I'm pretty sure EA ermor is... and jomon too? Anyone else?

August 24th, 2011, 12:07 AM
But if we are going to make exceptions for him, are we going to make exceptions for me in October when I am gone for two weeks? Or for everyone else when they are gone for a week or two at a time? I'd understand if it were Christmas or even Thanksgiving... but you can't just accomodate everyone, as you wind up losing players that way.
EA Ermor is staling... as his neighbor I can tell he stopped building anything a little while ago. Jomon has at least gone to the edge, though I don't share a border with him.

Hi!
I would like to announce that im stopping playing this game. i have subbed in for a last-stand ermor, then switched to EA caelum to help avoid stales and let myself try them out. I was bored with that nation, and when i finally got to war with them I still havent felt the excitement to play. Since im going to a vacation again, its a good time to stop. thanks for the experience, and much fun to everyone!

August 25th, 2011, 04:41 AM
I have played my turn.
What is going to happen with Caelum? While I understand that our community is tired of delays, I don't really like the idea of turning Caelum AI at this point. Caelum is not a super power, but appears to be a reasonably strong nation after so many turns of undisturbed build-up - not a case that would normally qualify for AI control. Why not at least try to find a sub for a couple of days before letting Caelum stale or give it to AI?
lwarmonger
August 25th, 2011, 11:21 PM
Perhaps a player who is currently on the edge would like to switch (Admiral, how about it? I don't think you have too much left, and you can see that you only bought a couple of turns at most given what I've got arrayed around your capital)?
Admiral_Aorta
August 25th, 2011, 11:27 PM
I'd be willing to do that, but I'd like to fight to the end as atlantis first.

How long do you think you're gonna last as atlantis?
With the way sub threads have been going lately, I think it is unlikely I'll be able to find a sub, and more delays will probably kill this game. I'll probably have to start setting more people to AI, but I guess not caelum. Are there any other nations that have been staling?
Admiral_Aorta

I am ok with this on one condition. Caelium is currently only separated from me by a single province (which given the nature of Caelium is really no separation at all). My condition is that there is no war between a Caelium under Admiral Aorta and myself until at least two turns after I finish off LA Atlantis (I really don't want war with Caelium at all, but that much time at least to reorganize my forces and make Admiral's knowledge of my dispositions from his time as LA Atlantis obsolete in the event of war).
bbz
August 28th, 2011, 05:25 PM
the thing is though. You can this way postpone war forever potentially. I say if there are 2 provinces left you get 10 turns or something like that without being attacked. Otherwise you can just sit on top of a castle and thus remain in peace forever.
Admiral_Aorta
August 28th, 2011, 05:49 PM
I wouldn't attack anyone until I knew exactly how stromg Caelum is,what agreements I have with my neighbors and everything else.

August 28th, 2011, 05:59 PM
In any case, as an immediate neighbor of Caelum, I would like a decision be made quickly so that I know how to handle my relations with that nation. For the time being, I took the decision to just ignore it, but it is not a sustainable option.

I'm finishing him off as fast as I can. Really, Caelium isn't in a good position to wage war on me... I just don't want to fight someone who can coordinate on two fronts and already knows what my dispositions are. I don't think that is unfair. What will be the last castle is underwater, which may drag things out a couple of turns, but I've also got a fair amount of magical items that let me go underwater, so not too many.

Correct Admiral! I had this feeling because all my neighbors changed in leadership at least one, sometimes more, except for Man that I contributed to annihilate...
Actually it happens in all my games. Sometimes you design a whole strategy around your diplomacy and this fires back on you. Once I even let an ally forge key artifacts to confirm friendship and 3 turns later leadership changes and I get a DoW nonetheless! In an other game my trustworthy ally, whose border I did not garrison while committing to a war far away, suddenly attacks me in full strength after being turned AI... So betrayal set apart, one should always expect anything from anyone...
At least the First and Last Emperor of Shinumaya remains true to His Words in this chaotic world! I think this in itself is a mark of godhood :angel
