Executor
March 27th, 2011, 07:04 PM
This is a new MA game, Testing Grounds, which will be using Llamas "Expanded Nations Pack". The mods add two sets of several mod nations each.

This game will be using nation pack 2.

Nation pack 2 adds nations generally themed around real-world cultures, like the base-game nations. The mod adds the following nations;

Haida Gwaii
Shangri-La, Hidden City of the Secret Masters
Al-Nadim, The Thousand and One Nights
Svarogia, Dark Forests
Arga Dis, Blood of Warriors
Pythium, The Second Empire
New Ulm, Iron Faith Reborn
Vaettiheim, Exiled Tribes
New Jomon, Broken Sword

For more info on the mod and nations check bellow.

Thank you WL.

Vaettiheim is the only nation I would want to play, but it's late age. So boo.

The game is MA in the sense of vanilla nations and in-game settings (you know, scouts, type of indies, etc.).
The 3 late age nations from pack 2 will be transferred to MA if pack 2 is voted for.

Why don't we just use 1.83?

Huh, I missed that somehow.
Well that kinda makes the voting pointless, we stick with pack 2 than.

Sorry ghoul31, but I'm not in favor of CBM 1.83, too many changes for me, and seeing as how the only games I can play that don't have CBM 1.83 are the once I organize we stick with CBM 1.6.

I'd love to sign up for this game. If we're picking, put me down for Al-Nadim please.

I have checked, and Expanded Nations Pack is compatible with CBM 1.6 + EDM. Remember, you need to enable CBM and EDM first, then enable the Expanded Nations Pack. It will crash if you enable the Nations Pack first. I believe this is noted in the readme.

NaivePhilosopher
March 30th, 2011, 03:58 PM
Hrm. While we're waiting, and on the CBM+EDM, note, perhaps someone can help me with some mod troubleshooting.

With CBM 1.6, EDM 1.2, and Expanded Nations Pack 2 enabled, when I load up a game as Jomon I have the option to recruit a whole bunch of EDM stuff for commanders, including Rocs, Treants, etc. It's definitely tied to EDM, as they don't appear when I disable the mod. The odd thing is, though, that this doesn't occur with CBM 1.83 and the Nation Pack, which has EDM 1.2 bundled in with it. It also doesn't seem to impact anyone but New Jomon.

So, something on my end, an odd mod conflict, or something else? Thoughts, suggestions?

Just a quick note that I'm about to fix a heap of clashy things. More later tonight...

llamabeast
March 30th, 2011, 05:49 PM
Okay, I've fixed the Expanded Nations Packs / CBM clash. It turns out that CBM 1.6 and CBM 1.83 had the same problem - it was just a case of which mod you clicked on first. If you clicked on CBM after the nation pack it would crash! Well, now it works with any CBM regardless of what order you click in.

Also the issue you saw should be gone NaivePhilosopher.

Everyone make sure to download the new packs - v1.01.

NaivePhilosopher
March 30th, 2011, 07:03 PM
Sadly it doesn't look like pack 1.01 fixed the problem. CBM 1.6+EDM+Nation Pack is still giving me the ability to recruit EDM summons as commanders (Roc, Grendelkin, Treant, True Fire Bird, Zmey, Ember Lord, Great Kraken, Male and Female Shishis, an Awakened Asynja, a Wild Ettin, Wendigo, and a Granite Cyclops, specifically, all for 0 gold and 1 resource). I'm not getting this problem with CBM 1.83+ENP, or CBM 1.6+ENP.

Perhaps it's something on my end, but if so I'm not quite sure how to repair the problem.

Thank you Llama.
All, please report any more bugs if you spot them before we start. I haven't had much time to test much myself.

EDIT: NaivePhilosopher, I'll take a look at this tomorrow the first change I get, or see if Llama is willing to help with this. Maybe it's just a unit number overlap or something.
We're still at least a couple of days from starting, that should give us time to work out any bugs we might find.

llamabeast
March 30th, 2011, 07:17 PM
NaivePhilosopher, sorry, you need to download the new version of EDM too.

It's not really a bug, it's just that the "Endgame Diversity Mod Testing Nation" and Jomon share a nation number. In the new version I released today I moved the Testing Nation number so it's less likely to clash with things.

NaivePhilosopher

Got some question with modding:

I'm playing a game with CBM 1.83, and the EDM and CBM 1.6 are sharing some files with the same name, so everytime, I want to switch games, I will have to rewrite the files, or is it "safe" to use the same for both?

Secondly, is there a single age mod, that incorporates these nations? Tried to use it with the one I have, so I could add all the nations in to one game, for referal and learning purposes, but the LA nations stay in LA, and the EA aren't available at all. I'm wondering how will we get them EA/LA to the MA?

Ragabash, every version of CBM should have it's own unique DM file, the only thing in common are the sprites from the worthy heroes mods that's included in CBM and EDM in 1.83, but that makes no difference.
So to answer your question, no, no need to rename or change anything, the game will load the needed, specific mods for every game you open.

If you're missing a certain mod, the game will tell you so once you try to open a game.

I'll combine all the nations to MA. It indeed should be as simple as changing a few numbers.

Welcome GFSnl

Here's the question. Why does turning your modified pack two off doesn't move mod nations out of ma? Then , why does activating both 1.84 and usual nations pack 2 gives "too many sprites" error, while just nations pack 2 works ok, and just 1.84 still gives all mod nations in ma (i think i mentioned it already but yeah)?

Executor
April 9th, 2011, 04:13 PM
The mod DM file contains all the 9 nations, which in this case have been moved to MA for the purpose of the game. Simply turning off the mod does nothing, nor it should return the nations to their eras.
If you want them in their original setting, EA, MA or LA, you either have to use the original nation pack 2 in where some nations remain EA and LA and therefor can't be all used simultaneously (which is why we transferred them to MA all), or, download individual nations from the MC compatibility mod.
As for CBM 1.84, I'm not sure, maybe it adds some new mods that combined with the nation pack go over the total sprites limit. There are only so many mods that can be used together.

Huitochka

Huitochka

Well, mod nations are mod nations, they are supposed to be there only with nations pack on, right? So when i deactivate the nations pack2, they are stil here.

Executor
April 10th, 2011, 06:15 PM
That really shouldn't happen, the only thing that comes to mind is you reentered the Testing Grounds game, after you already disabled the mod, at which point Dominions would automatically load the nation pack 2 mod again.

llamabeast
April 11th, 2011, 05:09 AM
To be straightforward with you Huitochka, that's a definite case of user error. If you try to create a new game without any mods enabled (or with just CB1.84 enabled) there will definitely be no mod nations available.

As Executor says though, you may have accidentally re-enabled the Expanded Nations mod by looking at a Testing Grounds game (I think opening a game sets the current mod preferences to match that game).

Huitochka
April 11th, 2011, 08:22 AM
I guess that's a user error, but not the one you're speaking of. I've yet to find what i did wrong.

Interesting. Just turning it off doesn't help, reentering some other game with different mods does, and reentering this one doesn't show any nation packs, neither usual one nor modified one, active, while it activates it and other mods of this game (only cbm 1.6 and edm 1.2 shows as active, however). Then if i "enable" any nations pack 2, either the one which is used here or the usual one, trying to make a pretender shows error about sprites, and enabling-disabling nations pack, either any of them or both, still doesn't move all mod nations out of ma.

So for me the only way to actually disable it is to reenter some other game and the only way to correctly use 1.84 with nations pack 2 (usual one) without errors is to do that and only then activate the relevant mods.

Posting here in case someone else has will have this problem... or if you have any idea what it is so.

llamabeast
April 11th, 2011, 08:51 AM
Maybe your custom mod doesn't have a banner? Mods can be enabled without a banner showing, but still if you go through the list of mods (in "Mod Preferences") I can pretty much guarantee that it's set to "Enabled" if you have mod nations showing.

April 11th, 2011, 11:12 AM

Jokes aside, while this is not an anonymous game it would be much appreciated not to broadcast actual battles in a on going game, that's not good sportsmanship as it goes along the lines of giving away close national details such as army strength, researched spells, etc.
Aside from that do as you like in the boundaries of normal-ish behavior.

I haven't really laid down any ground rules here so I'm not prohibiting it or anything, of course you are free to mislead others or broadcast your propaganda any way you like but it would be appreciated (at least from my side) not to give away vital national information in the game thread as you do so, broadcast propaganda I mean.
Making conspiracy is of course a whole other area with which I'm fine as this is a diplo game after all.

An example would be me leaking in the thread all info about your PD, your SC placement on the entire map including their gear, stats, battle scripts and such. I wouldn't welcome such behavior.

Not saying that you are acting in such a manner of course (all you seem to be doing is having a laugh which is okay) but for future references.

The classic "pulling a ghoul" move is the awesome strategy i saw in that video. box select all your H3's and tell them to smite, then stop researching and try and dump on a neighbor. it works so well i hear.

Since you called me a liar, i will put a tiny bit of effort into proving my claim.

First of all, we have Cripple Fight 3. pretty sure that was research Evo 5 then never research again? anyways, definite rush there.

Second, take a look at Tophats. you sent every mage you had at Nehekara early and it failed sadly, but it was certainly classic.

Thirdly, and currently, Petty Kingdoms which squirrelloid says isn't going so well.

want more examples? how about Lateral? either me or my brother were in almost all of these, so i have turn files to prove them.

The other classic Ghoul move is the whining about someone winning the game, which i fully expect here. (and trust me, i have examples of that too)

Dont call me a liar. i can back up my claims

I'm beating squirreloid in Petty kingdoms, so I proved you are a liar. And in games like cripple fight & tophats, I was being attacked, so I had no choice to use my mages to fight. So again I prove you to be a liar.

Leave it to a government firm to make a 5 minute job into a two months torture, and than finally after pulling strings (cause you can't get a straight answer) be told that the job won't be done due to technical difficulties which they actually caused, and illegally as it seems too...

Anyway, I did give Psycho the admin code to the game as a precaution so I hope there wasn't much trouble on my behalf.

Well, there's no promise the next turn won't crash too I guess, might be a mod game thing. I don't think rehosting can do more damage, Llamaserer saves turns so I presume they can be reused or... something. Llama should know.

NaivePhilosopher votes for roll back, and seeing how I have 4 stales already I wouldn't mind a rollback myself. And in this case no one can take advantage with the roll back as all of us staled, so no dilemma on that part.

I'm not sure what to think of the recent developments in this game.

I understand that when someone goes awol in a game and is set to A.I. this will give massive advantage for the one(s) playing against him/her.

But what transpired here is the exact opposite of the spectrum.

Not only is a player against whom I was easily winning replaced by a veteran but also my two enemies go from no cooperation to pre-planned battle tactics.
And on top of that, Shangri-La is set to A.I..

Valerius, I think it's wonderful you could sub for one of the players that has left. Against the previous player I would have stand a good chance to win, gain equality with Hadai and remain winning chances, but I can never win against you both and might as well resign and congratulate Executor with his win.

Executor
September 25th, 2011, 07:54 PM
Valerius offered to set Al Nadim AI, he also offered to maybe play out some turns depending on the situation, naturally I took him up on his offer.

Also, I am not cooperating with Valerius in any way. We have not exchanged any words regarding this game expect the transferring of the nation to him.

Shangri La has in fact gone AI this turn, but as you can see all his forts are conquered and almost all forces killed. In fact he has a single province left with only several stranded mages and a lone Grendelkin. He couldn't do any more harm either way. He was effectively killed a few turns back when he lost his capital.

I enjoy winning (or losing) my games solely on my skill. I scarcely do diplomacy and I never plan or set in motion joint attacks, also, I would not like to win any game on some technicality since that would take away the pleasure of winning from me so, please, GFSnl, if you feel cheated here for some reason or wronged in any way, I'd be happy to hear any and all your suggestions. I would even kindly ask Valerius to turn Al Nadim AI even.

GFSnl
September 25th, 2011, 08:08 PM
No,

the only one at fault here is Attack Drone who ruined a fine game by upsetting the balance one way or the other.

I'm just a little disappointed that I kept warning Attack Drone you were strongest and had to be attack but instead he attacked me. Then when I'm beating him he cowers away to be replaced with a much stronger player. (who doesn't read it's mail to often :p). Otherwise he would have seen the peace offer.

Anyway, It's clear you have far more resources. Probably more money than you can spend with Nature's Bounty up for so long. And it's 2 against one.
My offer for resignation stands and it will be a deserved win for you.

Valerius
September 25th, 2011, 08:08 PM
GFSnl, I think those are fair points. When I offered to make a last stand rather than just set AI I thought I'd have a few provinces to work with and I'd just script some final battles, but that turned out not to be the case.

Looking at the turn, it does seem like Executor and I are working together - but I've actually had no contact with him and I'm basically just fighting whoever attacks Al-Nadim. If I were playing this to win (rather than with a last stand mentality) I might well decide that Haida Gwaii was too strong and be open to a deal with Svarogia (graphs off and basically no scout network make it hard to judge strength unless I burn all my S gems on astral windows). However, that means I'd have to deal with late game micro on a big map and I'm afraid that's too much for me.

It is of course up to you two to decide, but I will say that this is a big map and you've both put in a lot of work to be the finalists so it seems appropriate to end it with a good fight between the two of you. Perhaps it would be best if I should just set Al-Nadim AI as was originally requested.

Valerius
September 25th, 2011, 08:23 PM
Then when I'm beating him he cowers away to be replaced with a much stronger player. (who doesn't read it's mail to often :p). Otherwise he would have seen the peace offer.

Sorry about that! I'm particularly bad about checking PMs over the weekend. :p I almost staled this turn and didn't even wait a few minutes until the game hosted to view the turn.

Anyway, It's clear you have far more resources. Probably more money than you can spend with Nature's Bounty up for so long. And it's 2 against one.
My offer for resignation stands and it will be a deserved win for you.

I feel bad about the way this has turned out. If I were playing to win I would make a deal with Svarogia against Haida Gwaii but I just can't deal with the kind of turns that would involve... So if I stay in the game I will work out a deal with GFSnl and then just sit in fortress Al-Nadim and let you two fight it out, only attacking one of you if you attack me.

Or I'm happy to set Al-Nadim AI or just stale if you think that would be better. But I really do think you two were heading towards a good final confrontation and wouldn't want to see it ruined.

GFSnl
September 25th, 2011, 08:27 PM
Have to make excuses for my ad hoc accusations of cooperation. It looks like you both attacked the provinces with pin point precisions but on closer inspection Haida just attacked the coastal provinces with it's flying/sailing and just by chance didn't intersect with Al-Nadim.

Anyway, I can never dent Haida unless Al-Nadim would also go on the offense against him and even then it's not clear we'd had a chance.

I can live with the result of Executor winning and I'll write him a nice review on the peculiars of Svarogia.

I'm not finished with Dom 3 yet and I'll probably have ample chance to get my revenge :).

Executor

It is a shame attackdrone left, I completely agree with you GFSnl, he upset the end game quite a bit. I was quite looking forward to playing out this end game. I planned to make that northern province of your my stronghold in your territory and launch further attacks from there. Forted it with a wizards tower and started gateway-ing troops in while I simultaneously attacked all those coastal provinces and pushed with two big armies over the ports north and south.

Yes, I did just attacked every province I could reach with sailing and with those flying mages.

Attacking you instead of me wasn't a particularly good choice for Al Nadim. I jumped at the opportunity to cast GONB at that point. Even then I though you'd join up against me but instead I got some 15 turns under GONB which just gets better the longer you have it naturally, since you'll just keep increasing your dominion. So I did, I forted and templed every province I could and kept recruiting Kachynas to spam summon those immortal thunderbirds (which are crap but still immortal in a powerful dominion :) )

At this point I think I have somewhere around 60 forts and an gold income of about 18 000. My gem income is up to 280-290 I think and I hold 4 globals and have most of the uniques, which includes the chalice as of recently fortunately, which opened a pretty damn good tart factory (tho they're not nearly as good as one might think with EDM)

This was a very good game for me, shame it's ending so abruptly.

GFSnl
September 26th, 2011, 01:40 PM
Yeah,

it was a really good game. I enjoyed it very much.
I really like Svarogia and will try to give some feedback on the things I used.

- The Osenja is great. She is especially good in the beginning when no one has researched anti magic. I used her for expansion and to crush my first adversary without a sweat. I took magic 3 scale specifically for her. It lowers magic resistance when someone tries to invade my dominion and she becomes the most cost effective researcher. She needs to be nerfed however. I didn't really use her for stealth communions with the Navi and the White Vila though as you probably intended.
- Troops. I thought the best troop was the Svarogian rider. fast and cheap. With the enslave mind from the Osenja that was enough for the early game. Had I encountered heavily armored guys with not a lot of ranged I would have bought some Haiduk Beserkers but with the adversaries I encountered they died to much. I didn't take a nice bless so I can't comment on the Ancestral warriors.
- I didn't use a lot of summons. They didn't seem worth it, or I must have missed some uses for them except for one. The Ala. Like I said on the threat at Dom3Mods she is great. A portable staff of storm on a great chassis.
- The Moria and other stealth units are not worth their price I think. I did have a lot of problems finding good scouts and the one you get to recruit as a nation sucks with only stealth 5. Even then the Moria with stealth 0 would only be worth it if she would actually disease enemy units in a province and not only kill population.
- The Vampir is a very nice bloodhunter. immortal and auto summons nice undead units. It should have been my spamming goal from the start. You want dozens of them. Would I play again with Svarogia I would go for them with an endgame goal of Utterdark.
- The Navi has something. But I'm not sure how to use them effective. I'm really interested in how you viewed their roll when you created them.

That's all that's coming to my mind now. I probably have more comments when certain subject are brought up.

Executor
September 26th, 2011, 02:38 PM
I figured as much she was the reason you took magic 3 scale, very good choice it seems. She will definitely be nerfed however, turned out to be too strong a unit. I will probably lower the range of her enslave mind to 10, that way she can still be used for enslaving and assassinations but it will be a risk to do so in any open battle where she would just run in front of the troops to enslave the enemy.
The Haiduk Berserker will probably get some sort of bonus.

The Vampir is intended to be a two sided unit, each of which has a specific role. The Vampir is naturally supposed to domsummon chaff while the werewolf (which of course doesn't have the domsummon ability) is supposed to be very good at bloodhunting, blood magic generally and also even be used as a light raider due to his stealth.

Regarding Navi, I figured they could be used to support armies as mini thugs.
Some sort of reverse communion would be perfect for them as they could get mistform, blood vengance, luck and body ethereal rather easy.

Anyway, this was my last turn, including my battle orders, in case anyone was interested in seeing what I was doing.
