View Full Version : WinSPWW2 patcher script

I've had to reinstall my game a couple of times and I found applying all the patches in order can be abit tedious.
So I made this wery simple command script to help the process.
The script runs all the patches in order so you do not need to click on the patches manualy one by one.
Firstly you will want to place all the patches in a temporary folder like C:\Temp for example.
Then place the patcher cmd file in the same folder with the patches and run it.
It will then start the first patch (version 1.1B for WinSPWW2) and wait until you have finished installing it. Then it will move on to start the next patch and so on until all (1.1B - 4.5) have been installed in correct order.
This way there should be less chance of human error in missing one of the patches or installing in an incorrect order.

This is a great idea. But it skips the 2.0 patch!
Any chance of adding the 2.0 and the recent 5.0 patch to the script?
Cheers,

False alarm on my part.
Turns out my v2 upgrade was named v2.0
I must have renamed it years ago.
As long as your upgrade files are named exactly as the original downloads, this script works fine.

Maybe then this should be put in the MODS subforum,,,?
so will be easier to find when needed:)

At some point a comprehensive upgrade patch would be useful. Version 5.0 sounds like a nice round number to do that. :)

You know you can make a comprehensive patch by yourself. Just install all the patches into an empty folder. Then just repack the files into a ZIP file and you get a 59 MB (on normal compression) comprehensive patch v1.1b to v5.0. You can burn this to a CD then for backup and easy patching for future.

Simpler now computer storage space costs very little patch the program to its current version then back it up. When you patch the next version replace the backup with the new version. Now reinstaling just requires you to copy & paste it.
New system harddrives are 500GB plus nowadays & external ones for backup (you do dont you) are cheap nowadays. Or even a USB stick you can pick up 8 or 32GB ones for a few dollars nowadays if you shop around. They are fine so long as you dont carry them around in your pocket & hit them with a charge of static electricity.
The games are only about 500mb uncompressed so will fit on most anything.

I updated this script to included the latest (5.0 upgrade) and also made some corrections. The script now includes a pause command and a proper wait syntax.
For the WinSPMBT patcher see this post:

I dont think the mods subforum is proper for this. A sticky thread would be more logical.

The multiple old patch issue is being dealt with and when everything is co-ordinated the scripter will be obsolete

Are you planning on some sort of automatic update system or a comprehensive larger patch?

The latter but it has to be co-ordinated with other things and this all takes time and it's out of my hands ATM. When we are ready, we'll make sure everyone knows.
