I'm a fan of the names this game generates for your god based on their magic paths. Does anyone have a list of those names or know where I could find them in the files?

This is dug out of the game code.

I miss Dom3 games like Chronicles where the titles were very important. It took me a long time to get the titles I wanted.

I remember I once got the title "princess of the oni" for EA Jomon (can't remember the name). that was pretty cool.

Of course, it frustrates me to no end when I make a river pretender and he becomes "ice something." Everytime that happens, I just make a whole new pretender. Call me silly, but it really gets to me when my Niefel giant pretender is called "prince of the oceans" or whatever

For the Chronicles game I used AutoHotKey to record the actions of creating my god. Then I created a batch file to generate 99 at a time. Scrolling back thru the screen I could see the titles and the number that Dom3 attached to each one so I could see that numbers 22 59 and 70 were ones I could stand to roleplay for the AAR-Required game.

because r'lyeh is beyond your puny mortal conceptions of morality.

One of my favourites is "The Earth Monster"(sounds a lot scarier that it actually is if you get it on an immobile pretender)

Thanks for the information Gandalf. I'll add it to the wiki.

Somebody should test and determine what the different hex values are of each pretender title, we could then create a program that edits these values to get the titles you want.

The most epic one I've gotten to date is, playing Abysia, choosing Great Warlock: King of the Wastes, the Enemy of Man.

Now if that isn't thematically awesome, I don't know what is.

Again my most memorable would be the Chronicles games. Thats where it felt most important, and I put the most work into getting something I liked. The games werent about play any mismatching garbage as long as it lets you win. It was all about every player writing AARs with a load of RPG as the games progressed. (and btw the last game on this forum that I know of that managed to pull beta testers and the devs in)

Titles just seemed more important for an entirely AAR game. I was playing Pangaea (EA or MA, I dont remember which) and I didnt want to get stuck with "Eater of Children" or "God of Disease" or worse yet "Lord of Liars" in a totally RPG game. I was pitching that "Man in his many empirical forms is destroying the world. I call for all of the non-human races to join me in purging them from the lands". So I was trying for King of the Crossroads and The Man Eater with maybe The Hidden One (which fit my playing style).

This might be a good place to mention for new players that you CAN make up a completely new title and use it. The space for a name is fairly long so you can add a comma and one title. It shows up obviously in the pretenders list so it cant be used to fraud one of the titles to give the impression of magics or scales that you dont really have. But it can be fun.

Such as, instead of naming your god "Juan" you can name him "Juan, for there can only be Juan".

Some are just scary. # of all Young and Growing Things, # of Unexpected Pleasure and Sorrow.

Somehow this triggered a discussion on IRC about sex magic. And sex gems. And CBM nerfing sex.

Edit: I tried hexediting a pretender file and I discovered the location where the name is stored, and that there is probably some sort of hash involved. As I could change the name that was displayed in the load a pretender file, but the game crashes before start.

Knowing the dom3 community, I'm not the first to do this, did somebody else already try something like this?

Man the Species or Man the nation?

Forget what I said about hashes and hex locations. Titels are stored in some sort of plain text in the pretender file. But dom3 has some sort of pretender file check that I have not been able to crack. I can fool the select a pretender file screen by hacking in a new name, but then at the start of the game dom3.exe crashes. (with an error message, corrupt pretender file).

But I have been able to fool catgod, by replacing in the different titles.

or The Man.

For mine? It was Man the species. It laid out who I was willing or not willing to ally with, both nations and pretender chassis. That created a fairly clear split for RPG play. "Lets eradicate the common enemy of the many nations of men, and THEN split the world up further."

I didnt actually get to play it though. Too bad. I was looking forward to playing another game with Kristoffer after all that time. But the game did a mod change that I wasnt comfortable in so I dropped out. Hard enough to RPG but to do it in unkown mods was more work than I wanted at the time.

The # marks are a variable which can be one of several, such as Lord, King, Prince, Lady, etc and ! seems to denote He/She, e.g. He Who Seals the Gates of Death. We had a thread about this a couple of years ago. (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=34766)
