why renaming off?

Admiral_Aorta
May 5th, 2011, 06:18 PM
I'd be interested in playing Bogarus, but having renaming off is a bit odd. Any particular reason why? I'd also prefer 36h turns, since I'm in the southern hemisphere.

Ossa
May 6th, 2011, 12:21 PM
36h should be ok - but, just out of curiosity, do you have longer days down there ;) ?

Renaming shall be on, then.

Admiral_Aorta

Days are the same length, but it's often night here while it's day time for you northern folks. :)

I might be retarded, many have claimed so, but I thought that day vs night had no difference in northern vs southern hemisphere. Like it's daytime in USA, so its also daytime in Argentina, but it's night time in Australia and China. West vs East, not North vs South. Am I wrong?

Admiral_Aorta

I'm pretty sure you're right there, I didn't phrase it very well. Due to differing time zones, I'm not sure I would be able to play my turns within 24 hours.

This map is way to large for only 8 player. That's almost 35 provinces each. 25 is generally considered large.

Are you going to give us the port number so that we can upload our gods?

The games on llamaserver, so its PBEM. Don't need a port number. Heres the llamaserver faq if anyones having trouble.

I'm taking a little football trip, would it be possible to extend the hosting time for turn 36 by 36 hours (I just submitted turn 35 and I'm back Wednesday afternoon).

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi,

I won't be able to play turn 57 until thursday afternoon, can we extend the hosting a little? I think 12h should be enough.

Thanks in advance,

I'd like to start a poll to see whether anyone things GFnsl has *not* won by now. Especially as he has a major nexus up now, is leading in all scores by a factor of two, I was the only one fighting him and he has handily beaten me;)

I do not think anyone can stop him, neither alone, nor together, and therewith opt to declare him the winner of this game.

Admiral_Aorta
July 18th, 2011, 03:12 AM
I'm sort of out of the equation at this point, but if all the other nations teamed up against him they might have a shot.

I admit that the last 10 turns or so have been rather boring, simcity-like play. I was planning to attack Agartha as soon as I was finished with Abysia, but the Astral Corruption really screwed me. I can understand you using it though, I just suspect that it hurt your potential allies relatively more than Agartha.

Combined with lowish gem income and continous attrition on booster items (think I lost couple of artifacts to horrors too as I forgot them on forgers), building up was painfully slow.

I can continue if everyone wants to keep playing, but I have no objection to conceding to Agartha.

GFSnl
July 18th, 2011, 05:07 AM
If there is no one who can dispel AN in the next turn I do think I have a rather large advantage.

But it's all up to you if you want to concede.

P.S.
That was a rather nasty battle for me last turn Marignon.
Infernal prisoned tree of my SC's and burned almost my entire army :(.

odeoderok
July 18th, 2011, 07:56 AM
I'll also be done with Bogarus in a couple of turns, and could join in the dogpile vs Agartha. Maybe if we pooled our gems someone could dispel the AN?

I was also royally screwed by Astral Corruption..

Arco

Ossa
July 18th, 2011, 09:19 AM
As an educated guess, I think he's getting more than 200 astral gems per turn with this nexus. Which probably has 500+ gems cast into it. And this is on top of him having twice as big gem income as everyone else.

vargr
July 18th, 2011, 12:13 PM
I will of course join any gem pooling if we decide to continue. Just don't expect too much from my contribution - my astral income has been abysmal throughout the game and I would have to alchemize most of my gems to produce even a token amount of pearls for the effort.

Well, my regular troops are a paper tiger at this point and I'm lacking in gems and booster items.

So I concede, but will play on if majority thinks otherwise and everybody joins the crusade now :)

As I am down to just my pretender hanging out at my capital which is under siege by Arco, I'm not sure I should have a vote. If I was one of the other players I'd vote to fight on, even if just for a little while.

I could have still tested some endgame stuff aswell. However, in this situation, I don't want to keep the game on if anyone feels doing the now rather laborous turns as a chore. Afterall, a motivated effort from all of us would be needed, and still the outcome seems pessimistic.
So I stand by my conceding.

Ossa
July 22nd, 2011, 04:36 PM
there wont be - noone has enough gems I think.

GFSnl - if we declare you the winner, would you mind putting yourself to ai and let us see whether we can win against your nation minus your leadership;) ?

GFSnl
July 22nd, 2011, 05:32 PM
Sure, but you'll be facing hordes of chaff.
And there will be no one to mind hunt your Demon Lords. Did I get really lucky there, cause I thought he had a MR of 25.

Then herewith and by the powers bestowed upon me as Admin I declare GFSnl the new god of Doomsday. May he show mercy upon his former opponent pretenders.

Well played! I didnt know how hard it is to get through to the mages if there are 50+ cave knights in between. And I went for Con-8 before I went into battlefield clearing spells like flamestorm. Coupled with the fact that I never believed hordes of undead to be a problem with holy pyre spamming mages, but I forgot that I didnt have an earth bless for them, as I had normally.

I'm also impressed with Zmeys with lycantroph amuletes, it takes a horde of micromanaging to catch those things.

The game was decided right after the beginning - you expanded faster and research faster than anyone else. After you invited me to join the attack on Jomon I knew it would only serve to make you even bigger. So just for the sake of the game I had to attack you. Unfortunatly noone joined me, otherwise we might have at least given you a few problems before you chunked out too many SCs.

vargr
July 23rd, 2011, 05:57 AM
Congrats GFSnl. The expansion was indeed good - by the time I was boxed in at the corner Agartha didn't seem too nice as a target. So I attacked Abysia but after that was over it was too late..

Ossa: was the magic sites settings really at value 65? I searched quite vigorously and the yield was disappointing. Especially the lack of astral hurt.

Admiral_Aorta
July 23rd, 2011, 06:14 AM
Yeah, I had trouble finding magic sites as well. Congratulations to Agartha.

GFSnl

Tnx,

great game. In the beginning I saw we had a lot of space on this map with so few players. The best strategy seemed to be massive scales and an imprisoned god. The magic settings were indeed the normal 35 instead of the 65 percent as described in the op. I figured this out pretty fast and I rushed gem generating spells. With an enchantment discount site (situated in serpent's neck) I could cast most of these with 20% discount. I didn't put any extra gems in it cause I thought they would be dispelled or overpowered pretty soon. But that didn't happen.
With massive gems and lightening fast expansion I got another advantage. Nobody contested me in the water. Rich in gems and income this was a great boon. Jomon really should have gone underwater pretty fast as their best mages are recruited in underwater forts. Fortunately they remain on land and with a massive death scale time was in my advantage.
I asked Marignon to co-attack Jomon but I didn't see any troop buildup along his borders so I figured he had other plans. The fight against Jomon went pretty smooth and as you can see from the Army size graph there was one Mega battle in which I cornered his largest army and make it route. After this he went a.i. and my second front with Marignon could be reinforced. I was a tough struggle and I hate Infernal Prison. I think I have at least 7 SC's in hell. With these extra troops the mass was large enough to push Marignon back. Together with my Zmey's raiding this is what broke his back.

TC and Arco were just to late with any action against me. It's not only the Nexus but I have a sizable blood economy going too. The plan for when I would have been attacked by everyone was that I would conquer Marignon as fast as possible with the cost of less troops and maybe losses on my other borders. Then I would cast Utterdark and income is slashed by 90%. With me as gem leader with the Nexus and a blood economy I would have gained a massive advantage.

Anyway, I had a fun game and hope to see you in next games.

Greetz,

GFSnl

Yeah, I spent way too many turns sitting on my hands and waiting for something to happen. I really didn't have a solid midgame strategy and so I started to flounder pretty quickly after the expansion phase. Also, the position of being stuck on the edge of the map bordering two of the largest powers in the game didn't help.

GG, GFsnl, you took the advantage early on and never really gave it up.

Thanks, good game everyone.

I had Bogarus pegged as my early target from the get go, since he was in the corner with only me as a neighbour. So I rubbed my hairy palms when the big armies he moved to my border attacked Gath instead! But then the war took way too much time for me to be able to pitch in against the trogs.

I also suffered from the 65% mistake, I thought I'd try Acashic Record for once - end result 120 pearls burned and 3 sites with total income 4 found

I hadn't done any site searching, just rushing to conj5 and then I was screwed.. Bogarus also taught me that elephants die to soul slay :) But that made me think that they could be pretty sweet decoys against anti-SC spells in the late game. Never thought of that before.

Admiral_Aorta
July 23rd, 2011, 06:24 PM
Yeah, I made the mistake of attacking Gath, who I underestimated, and then gettimg attacked by Arco, Gath and Abysia all at the same time. I also didn't have a clear idea of how communions work. I also lost my pretender fairly early when he retreated into enemy territory.
