welcome jimbojones. ghoul has already indicated his intention - already in short-spoken, no-diplo way - to lead the northern giants. Would u like to choose another nation?

Its been some years since I've played Dom3, and I used to be an avid player on this forum. However, a couple years or so ago the last two games I played I staled out on, not too developed but something I felt bad about.

So I decided to come back and try to salvage my rep on the dom3 forums rather than start a new profile or something. I pledge to not stale on you guys and forever more in dom3, and I'm writing to a couple of the peeps I staled out on too apologize too.

In short, I would love to play Kailesa if you guys will have me, Its been a while but I'm pretty sure I can still kick some butt. :)

im glad to have u deadnature.

we are full now, let the struggle for godhood begin!

for reminder: its a no-diplo-game, so we agree to forbid every means of cooperating (talking about the game is a form of cooperation).

since two opininons were articulated about the banning of other spells, and mine is not to ban them, on the base of 2 to 1 majority voting the aforementioned 4 spells will remain usable.

OK, I will go for MA Ermor. Lets get this show on the road!

I can't get the map link to work, it heads to the wrong thread (some space game discussion), any pointers?

Deadnature
May 12th, 2011, 10:00 AM
Two pointers:

1.) The map should be in the "map and mod browser" on llammaserver's main page, just click on it and navigate down to the modified paraganos.

2.) You selected middle age Ermor, but I believe we are playing an early-age game, so you should probably select a nation from that age. :)

Hi!

Since this map has 8 predefined starts, i think its a good idea to allow one more player, so feel urself home here, u r in.

Why, thank you very much! Yomi power!

May 12th, 2011, 10:06 PM
Edit: Never mind, I did some searching and found it on the interwebs!

Edit2: Actually, I am confused now... There are like 4 versions of the Parganos map floating around... Which one do I use??? I downloaded LlamaBeasts' map zip file, and it had Parganos_llama.map and Parganos_llama_deadsea.map.

The link for the download of the map on Llamaserver is broken. Could someone send me a link or e-mail it to me?

Deadnature
May 12th, 2011, 11:04 PM
I think its this one:

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=39857&highlight=parganos

Talrivian
May 13th, 2011, 12:19 AM
Yes, I downloaded that zip file. But there are two different maps included:

Parganos_llama

Parganos_llama_deadsea

Both have the same changes, except for deadsea, which has all of the population from the sea provinces removed.

So, which one are we using?

earcaraxe
May 13th, 2011, 01:43 AM
im not sure it is an important question, since u only have to build a pretender and send that in. the trn file will choose the approprate map when loaded.

Deadnature
May 13th, 2011, 01:46 AM
The dead-sea version, but you don't have to choose one; as long as you have both different maps' files in your maps folder you will be able to play whichever one the host chooses.

For your own practice-sp-games your can pick either one, the only difference being that the "dead-seas" version has all of the oceans set to zero income (AFAIK).

Talrivian
May 13th, 2011, 02:57 PM
Alright, I guess I was worrying for no reason. What you said makes sense about just having it in the folder.

By the way, are we still waiting for someone, or can we get this ball rolling?

I'm ready to show the world the awesome power of the Yomi.

earcaraxe
May 13th, 2011, 04:06 PM

Just a quick question:

What are the win conditions? Are the five victory point provinces being used? What is going on with that?

earcaraxe
May 20th, 2011, 05:42 AM
the victory points are not used, they are just ornaments on the map.

the victory condition is consensus, but i'd like to modify it to holding 5 capitals for 3 turns, to reduce the possibility of stubborn and futile resistance at the end. Do you all agree to it?

Deadnature
May 20th, 2011, 10:12 AM
Sounds good, assuming of course that you have to first announce your possession of the capitals (listing whose caps they were and location) and then hold them for three turns.

jimbojones1971
May 21st, 2011, 10:27 AM
I agree to it.

We need to decide if you must announce it in advance, or if you can use your turn files as evidence. I'd favour the first, but really am not too fussed.

earcaraxe
May 23rd, 2011, 03:50 AM
i am not sure it makes any real difference. if somebody is near to the goal of owning 5 capitols, i think in the vast amjority of the cases it will be obvious. I think people will concede sooner than that to happen.

earcaraxe
May 23rd, 2011, 03:54 AM
i talked with deadnature in PM about the no-diplo-rule, and i think it might use some clarification.

the forbidding of diplomatic agreements includes the in-game options too: so no agreements are allowed in any way.

Of course, it is allowed to talk about the game on the meta-level, like "this game is so much fun" and "im glad we playing together" and "lets add a new victory condition if everybody agrees" and such. We have already done this here on the forum.

earcaraxe
May 26th, 2011, 07:44 AM

Deadnature

Though I myself staled, (a freak accident for sure) I can't help but to feel a little worried about Yomi staling again. I mean, its still pretty early in the game and it would probably be easy to find a sub.

Let's give Yomi a chance for sure, but if it gets down to the last hour or less we may want to postpone the game for a sub rather than wait for another stale.

Edit: no hard feelings Talrivian, and if you're still with it I apologize, but if I was close to staling twice I would at least want someone to delay for me as one stale can be dealt with but two is often killer, just something to look out for :)

earcaraxe
May 27th, 2011, 07:06 AM
i have postponed the game until monday 11 GMT, and posted a thread for finding a sub. if wont come any, i will set yomi AI at about monday 10 GMT.

Deadnature

I know this is a relaxed and friendly game, but sorry about the stale guys, again.

I'll have to get on my turns faster but we may also want to consider extending the time to 48h.

Of course I can still do 24h if everyone prefers a faster game, I just have to be more spot-on with my turns.

thanks

Can I please get a one-off extension of 12 hours?

I'd be happy with moving to 48 hours per turn like DN suggested.

earcaraxe
June 27th, 2011, 08:18 AM
Hosting postponed by 12 hrs.

It may have been misunderstandable because of the lack of stressing, but I wrote 24 hrs as hosting time. If everyone (including me) prefers longer hosting i'm open to changing it. I'm in only two games and I easily have time for 2 turns a day, altho I also that know people r different.

If anyone would like an extension (or uncertain about himself being on time) I gladly postpone.

True, Earcaraxe, you did say clearly that this would be a 24hr game, and I'm really enjoying the pace and action so far.

So even though I suggested 48hrs, I defer to the host to make the choice. Either way, I'll probably be playing my turns as fast a possible from now on. :)

thanks!

Hopefully we have no stales this turn. If Kailasa misses three in a row, it will have a pretty major impact on the game (probably to my advantage, but not much fun that way). I think we should consider a 12 hour extension, just to try and make sure we can avoid that.

Deadnature
July 4th, 2011, 01:10 AM
Gents, (and ladies if applicable), two stales in a row in unnacceptable I know, I am processing my turns right now.

Someone close to me was hospitalized last Friday, she's ok, but I spent most of the weekend (+today) over there worried as hell. But like I said, what could have been a major injury turned out to be relatively minor.

Technically I could have gotten to a computer and asked for a delay, but dom3 hasn't crossed my mind for the past several days. But still, that's noones fault here, so sorry you guys were left in the dark.

Two stales in a row is pretty harsh, esp on top of my earlier stales, but I've actually got more free time than usual starting this month, so I'm going to dedicate myself to my turns and see what I can pull off.

Thanks

i have posted it on my other game's thread already, but i think it worth a ctrl-c ctrl-v here:

"no problem deadnature (on my behalf). I'm glad u r back.

I'd like to stress that - contrary to the customs here on this forum - i dont add moral dimension to staling or dropping out of a game. I prefer playing with people who particiate because of the enjoyment. I dont consider playing along an obligation, starting a game doesnt equal an oath of playing thru any circumstances in my mind. my opinion in short: its just a game.

I'm aware that in your case it was about something else, but i wanted to use this opportunity to tell that above."

Hey, no sight of Deadnature just yet - I'll given him another 24 hours, then work out how to proceed.

ghoul31
August 13th, 2011, 07:14 AM
Thats considered an exploit to move a few troops to stop an entire army from moving. But if you need to exploit to take cities, I guess thats how its gonna be.

Deadnature
August 13th, 2011, 08:07 AM
Well, I didn't send one commander or something, it was a sizable force, 40 units plus the mage. Granted it was the Boar Mage. I really just wanted to probe though, so I'm sorry if that was an exploit, I really had no intention of stopping your army. It didn't even occur to me, but I guess I misjudged your strategy. I also wanted to kill off those damn boars because they were gobbling up all the food!

Actually, you should be quite happy about what happened. I really wish that you had attacked with everything, maybe you should look at that battle again :)

Wait a second...I just looked at it again. Maybe I didn't stop ANY army there, otherwise that whole force (the one that was supposed to be stopped) wouldn't have caught my scout during the patrol phase. Doesn't that mean you put them on patrol?

So ghoul, are you just saying that "in theory" what I did was wrong? If so that's cool. But it seems like there was no "exploit" as you described it. Correct me if I'm wrong but either way, no hard feelings.

I am also willing to submit my turn to a third party.

ghoul31
August 13th, 2011, 08:16 AM
After you stop and army from moving in a city, they automatically switch to patrol for some reason.

Don't tell me you didn't see my gigantic army sitting there . Thats nonsense. It was an exploit and you know it.

Of course I saw your army there, I pointed that out myself, please don't put words in my mouth and then say they're nonsense.

I told you my rationale, I even said I was sorry if I did use an exploit. Clearly it didn't occur to me that you would cry foul. I have heard that using single commanders and scouts to block armies is considered by many an exploit. But that is not what I did.

Tell you what, if you think that sending an army of any size to the sacrificed, for whatever reason....is wrong...then I'll gladly refrain from doing that for this game and you can do it to your hearts content for all I care.

Also, aside from copying Boguses orders (which is pretty unanimous), now might be a good time to specify exactly what else you think is an exploit, just so that we are clear.

This is a good idea, I reckon we ought to hash out what we think should be off the table as an exploit.

There's really not a lot I can think of that haven't been addressed in patches:

Bogus orders

Item-gift spamming to overflow someones item-storage

Life-after-death and deliberately killing tons of priests/mages for the purpose of re-animators/upkeep-free-mages. (though not everyone agrees on this one)

the one about army-blocking, either with scouts/commanders or small, sacrificial armies as ghoul and I just discussed. Although it might be debatable what the threshold is for an army not to be sacrificial, I think we can agree that the army sent should be able to do SOMETHING significant (damaging) aside from just blocking/probing and dying, which I think was ghouls grief, correct me if I'm wrong.

What else? I'm sure there's something....

Ok I think we can end this game now. I thought if all 3 of of us attacked kailasa, we might have a chance.

But sauro and ermor are attacking me for some unknown reason.

So lets just end this.

That was a devastating turn for you ghoul, clearly a turning point, you fought hard though, so if you want to throw in the towel I understand. Either way, good game.

We shouldn't say too much here while the game is still going, but....

Ermor is, in fact, attacking me. He crushed a huge invasion force I sent into his turf and is now starting to cause even more trouble. He's not really attacking Nief, because that eastern territory is occupied by me for now, so its more opportunistic I guess.

Sauro is prob also being an opportunist. It seems like he's trying to snatch up some quick turf while I'm busy.

But the main point is that you might not feel you have a chance against my advantages at this point, I'm not sure if I agree (anything could happen) but it seems like you could be right.

I don't really care who wins though, I'm fine to keep playing or call it, whatever people want.

Sauro just went AI, and now the AI is attacking me. So yea I think the game is over.

i think after my defeat by ur mighty giants and my resign as prime witch king, u left sauromatia so crippled, that it hadnt been able to significantly alter the flow of events.

u say no chance versus kailasa? even 2 vs 1?

Yeah, I've been busily trying to get back into the fight against Kailasa. I have to say, its been heaps of fun fighting the monkeys, I've really had to apply myself just to stay in the game :)

With the northern fort of yours Ghoul, my plan had been to try and smash the Kailasa SC that has been running around causing you so much pain.

Do we want to fight on, or call it for Kailasa? I'm happy either way - I'm confident that I can certainly causes the Mighty Monkeys some trouble, and die hard in the mountains of Ermor :-)

Kailasa really has played an excellent game, so if we call it here it will be a well deserved Victory to Deadnature. Amusingly enough, I am just about to get back to almost exactly the same set of provinces that I had before we started fighting, so perhaps that is a good point to stop and salute our new god and master?

I guess our triple-stale just about settles it....

This has been one of the most enjoyable dom3 games that I have ever played. Everyone here has played a great game and very sportingly too.

Right from the beginning, fighting a desperate war with the Firbolgs, I thought I would be resigned to surviving and nothing more. Then when I finally defeated my long-time foe, he took refuge under the waves to harass me some more...awesome, I really liked that aquatic empire.

Then, as the Nief giant grew monstrous, I struggled with Ermor, won some small victories and was eventually dealt a harsh blow when his god nuked my main northern army.

After that, I thought again that there was no chance of me winning. But Ermor and Kailasa were content to lick our wounds and that front stayed quiet until almost the end of the game.

This was very fortunate for me, because I had to teleport/gateway/fly/ocean-travel my whole force to the east to stand a chance against Nief, who was about to crush Sauro.

Ghoul built up a mean, mean, Niefelhiem (I especially liked the earth-empowered Jarls :)) and I said many times to myself that he was sure to win. But I was lucky that my air-bless somewhat countered his rain-of-stones-jarls and my death-bless was perfect for giant-fighting.

Nief was far more powerful than me in terms of raw power, but he lacked the mobility that Kailasa has, especially late game. So we played the guessing game of "where will these raiders fly/teleport to" and I luckily raided some crucial provinces. On that last turn, I basically won that guessing game by placing powerful forces in the way of three counter-raiding armies with devastating results. I guessed right.

After that, ghoul wisely called it, he could have played on but it would have been even more raid-defense against harsher and harsher odds.

Ghoul, you would have really deserved that victory that I snatched, congrats for almost conquering the world, well played.

Good game everyone!

So it is a win to Kailasa - well done, Deadnature!

I have to say, I was really struggling to put myself back together again after defeating your main army in the north. I basically had my god (Forge lords are actually quite handy, highly recommended chasis) and a single Zmey as SCs, then a bunch of human legionnaries and mages.

I think my biggest restraint was lack of globals. Kailasa overwrote my mother oak (I nearly cried), then on the turn when I tried to get up the fire global (20 fire gems a turn) Kailasa also put up a global and I failed to even get the global up, after burning 90 odd desperately needed fire gems (at this point I did cry, and wail, and shake my fist at the sky).

So I think I am very lucky you decided to mash Hinnom and then head over to annoy Nief, as I really needed some breathing space.

I really enjoyed this game, and learnt quite a lot, so I am keen to play with all of you again at some point in the future.

And thanks to Earcaraxe for organising the game, and modding it.
