I'll give LA Atlantis a go. I've never played a water nation to good effect so I figure this is my one chance to play a water nation that starts out on land.

Since I'm not losing fast enough in my other game, I'd like to try to lose here. Is there still room for a bad player for Utgard? I want to see if nether bolt flinging Seithkona can do any damage.

tomorrow i´ll upload the game to llamaserver, the name would be "MorlaLAnoob". until then you can change nations and make suggestions to the game settings.

I just realized, I'm going on vacation Oct 12, I won't have internet access for a week. What should I do? Let someone else have my game slot? Start and look for a temp sub? Stale for 7 days?
TigerBlood
September 27th, 2011, 03:47 AM
I'm not sure what is going on. A long stale early game would probably be a bad idea, in my opinion. I don't mind starting later, but my (limited) experience is that week long breaks tend to kill games that are in progress.
Happy to respect any decision though.
triqui
September 27th, 2011, 04:58 AM
If you can find a temp sub that'd be great. other than that, it's probabaly better to delay :/
krpeters
September 27th, 2011, 06:17 AM
nonono, don't delay the start of the game on my account, that would be silly, the game will never get off the ground if you wait that long. It sounds like the best thing to do would be just find someone else for spot 8 altogether since we haven't started yet.
Sorry about all this, I wasn't thinking when I saw the looking for players post.
Terran
September 27th, 2011, 07:06 AM
Then?
We look for another player or we start and the stops?
triqui
September 27th, 2011, 07:13 AM
I vote to start. Then we can search for a temp sub, he is out 1 week, that's 3-4 turns.
Terran
September 27th, 2011, 09:48 AM
I vote for start too
Morla
September 27th, 2011, 09:49 AM
I agree with triqui. Let´s start, find a temp sub and continue playing.
I´ll send my pretender (tricky for Jomon) in a few hours. And let´s hope for a sub :D

Hey Marignon, nice capital. We'll take it! Sure, we took two of your provinces + hold your capital under siege, but I'm sure those three overtaxed provinces you took from us were worth just as much... right?
Don't worry though, it'll take us at least another turn, maybe two, to tear down the walls. It's not like your army is way down south separated by slowing terrain and distance. Oh wait...
TigerBlood
October 6th, 2011, 07:00 PM
Bogarus wishes to inform the heathens nations of the world that their plans for expansion are about to be realised.
Any nations that wish to placate the Red Army with diplomatic posturing should send their proposed terms and conditions for non-aggression pacts now.
Oppose Us and We will break you.

I'm still wondering where those armies come from. I thought you weren't adjacent :/
Since this is a noob game, in the interest of good sportsmanship I'll explain.
Attached is a screenshot (heavily cropped to protect the innocent and guilty alike) of my move on the previous turn (turn 12). My forces are amphibious so they were chilling in province 100 in the bottom right. That province is connected, via the river, to the water province in the top left (province 146), which is itself adjacent to 139, your capital.
Sailing, which my commander has, allows him to move himself and all his troops over adjacent water province A and onto any land province adjacent to A... so over 146 and onto 139. Note that when sailing you must end your move in a land province and that you can sail over precisely one and only one intervening water province.
Normally people are sailing from one land province onto another land province divided by a water province. However, the sailing mechanic doesn't actually care whether the province you are originating from is land or water. This rarely comes up because there are no commanders with sailing and amphibious... except LA Atlantis' capital-only mage, the Angakok.
In many ways, LA Atlantis is a pretty narrow, uninspiring nation. However, they do have some cool perks, this being one of them.
Edit: Also, Booya! Surprise naval assault!
shatner
October 7th, 2011, 03:46 AM
Finally, since water provinces tend to be very large (and therefore be adjacent to a lot of other provinces), sailing can sometimes allow moves that are as far or farther than if you had flying. And, unlike most forms of flying, sailing allows you to take all your troops with you. Also, you can't fly over water anyway.
Anaconda
October 7th, 2011, 03:53 AM
lol, this was interesting indeed.
triqui
October 7th, 2011, 04:14 AM
Thank you for the explanation!
Well, as you might suppose, that took my defense strategy by surprise storm, and now I'm pretty close to doomed.
I like Sailing, one of the things I like from Marignon. However I was used to sailing in Sailing ships, not submarines :P
But I've learned a neat trick, which is nice ;)

October 11th, 2011, 06:29 PM
What is the story with subbing in a game you are playing? Over on another thread, they are talking about copy protection issues. I was thinking since Marginon is kind of toast, and on the opposite side of the map from me anyway, it would be relatively harmless if he subbed for me for a week.
triqui
October 11th, 2011, 06:43 PM
If I submit a turn with my computer it will give an error msg. It will consider that I'm using a pirated game.copy. If I do your turn, I cant do mine.
I can sub you for a couple of turns if you want. I'm already dead, I'm just doing turns and not stalling so you dont have to wait 36h. Give me a PM with a few indications (such as what ti research).
shatner
October 11th, 2011, 06:56 PM
Can't the administrator make Marignon AI and then make triqui's email address the one for Utgård allowing him to submit turns? Then once krpeters gets back, the admin changes the email address for Utgård back and we're back on as usual.
I've read it is considered acceptable to go AI in MP games once your capital has been sacked.
Morla
October 11th, 2011, 07:12 PM
I can do it, Marignon only have 2 provinces left.
Triqui if you are already ended, we can do this if krpeters accepts.
Triqui let me know when you set your nation(marignon)to AI, and then i can make your email address the one for Utgård without copy protection issues.
krpeters
October 11th, 2011, 09:23 PM
I'm still not sure I understand the copy protection situation. If the server sends Triqui a turn for Utgard, does it still have my CD-key stamp?
Anyway, yes, I suppose now is a good time to flip over control. I just swatted half the hydras heading my way, Triqui should be able to take care of the other half :)
triqui
October 11th, 2011, 09:29 PM
No. The problem is that my computer do have the cdkey stamp when I send turns from my PC. If i send my Marignon turn and also send Utgard turn from it, the server would reject it, becouse it is receiving turns from 2 players that have the same CDkey.
At least that is how I understand it
Morla
October 11th, 2011, 09:56 PM
OK figure it out:
First triqui should go AI the turn before he starts playing Utgård.
Secon triqui has to have a different directory structure for the dom3 install, different path than krpeters.
Then he can be ready to sub, and don´t leak info on Utgård :D

It was already blind before the battle. It got blinded in a battle with CTis last turn Actually the three afflictions are from before this battle, which is the first one he is wearing gear :/. He wasn't wounded that heavy this turn.
Would it be properly geared from the begining, and things would had been different, maybe.
PS: If it wouldn't be blind, he would be wearing 2 horned helmets :P

triqui
October 18th, 2011, 08:00 PM
Actually this turn got much worse :P
Jomon finally attacked, and took down the main army and the capitol. Will be probably impossible to survive that assault. It'll depend on external help probably, Jomon has really too much edge on research and gem generation compared to Utgaard.
However, yes, your nation is quite better than 10 turns ago :). We are sieging Pytium capitol, got most of their provinces, and now have 3 castles. :). Not bad I guess :)
PS: Morla should change the player control back to krpeters

Atlantis would like to congratulate Bogarus on being stubborn in the face of invasion. Our forces have rolled over them like a tidal wave, ruining all in their path... except the Bogarus capital. That the Bogarusians (Bogarusites? Bogarusaurus?) have managed to hold against two of our assaults. The first victory was a feather in Bogarus' cap for making clever and effective use of their mages. The second victory is more a feather in Atlantis' dunce cap for failing to change up our tactics. Oh well; there's always number 3.

And Atlantis what are they doing?

Tearing down Bogarus' walls and preparing to commit premeditated deicide when we get our moist hands on their god.
Why, what do you think we should be doing?

I'm seeing that Atlantis has spent at least 2000 gold and 80 gems on a war they are not even close to winning. By all means, send more flying froggies to their deaths. Bogarus is already ankle deep in their thin blood.
On another note, the Sea Creatures Belong In The Sea Fund (S.C.B.I.T.S.F) has just been opened by Bogarus. We call upon all land nations to please send Gold, Gems and Items to help put Atlantis back in their place. Think of the childen!

Don't get so cocky. You were lucky when my troops routed inches from your last surviving mages and you were lucky when your god woke up the turn before I left a greasy stain where your capital used to be. You've handled yourself well and I've certainly made my fair share of mistakes and then some, but this ain't over.
I'm seeing that Atlantis has spent at least 2000 gold and 80 gems on a war they are not even close to winning.
Sooo... I've spent less than one turn's income on forces you have not so much killed as scared repeatedly off the battlefield and you're hanging up the mission accomplished banner? You're down to 1 unsieged fort and fully 4/5s of your forces are dead. Your line on the research chart has been flat for half a dozen turns. You aren't winning... you just aren't losing as fast as you could be.
Congratulations?

Scripting is not luck. Your troops routed because of a battlefield enchantment and because they ran though some clouds and into some AoE's like good little froggies. Your thug investment was entirely predictable and a waste of gems.
You've been telling me my demise is imminant for the last 3 turns, so make it happen...If you can.
Meanwhile, other nations have not bitten off more than they can chew. How many more turns will you waste on this fruitless endeavor before you realise attacking Bogarus was a Bad Move?

Ah... it went astray. Our handlers believe it wants to mate with one of your hydras, it seems to suffer from a personality disorder.

By the way... how did you get it? Did you summon it? its a national spell? Its the first time I see it.
Its really unfair by the way, first part of the game I dealt with the undying Wyvern, now with a unstoppable 3-head dragon. Cool. :(

If Bogarus' player forgot or is indisposed, I believe the admin can force the turn to host.

What the?
For future reference there is an admin option to set a nation to AI. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I recreated the game folder and manually set the nation to computer controlled. Again, sorry for the delay. I assumed it would be faster for the admin to do it.

NP:),
Set a nation to AI
The procedure is this:
1) Ask the player playing the dying nation to set themselves to AI. Many players fail to do so simply because they don't realise they're meant to set their nations to AI when they want to stop playing. If you ask them to, there's a good chance they will.
2) If that fails, you need to either do it yourself, or ask some trusted member of the community to do it. The disadvantage of doing it yourself is that you will see the position of the dying nation and its neighbours, which is a bit dodgy. Finding someone else to do it is a hassle though. I recommend asking someone else from that game who's already been knocked out, or else someone random you've played with before. If you always ask me or Gandalf, we will go mad.
3) Having found someone to set the nation to AI, you need to get the player's turn to them. To do that, change the nation's e-mail address to that player's address, and request a turn resend from the main game page. They then need to open the turn up in Dominions, set the player to AI and e-mail the resulting 2h file back to the LlamaServer.
It´s better that the player who want to go AI do it himself.

The admin can send the turn to their own account. It does not create any conflicts if they send the turn in AI controlled. At least, I never had any problem with it in Dom2.

I just submitted my turn 41 file and I noticed that we are waiting on Jomon and Bogarus. Jomon makes sense but I thought Bogarus had been set as AI...?

-Game settings:
-HOF 15
-rename enabeled
-rest by default(magic site frecuncy 45?)
-winning condition: 5 capitals for 3 turns
Sooo... I'm pretty sure this is victory for me. I have held five capitals (mine (Atlantis), Marignon's, Bogarus', C'tis' and Pythiums) for three entire turns (49, 50 and 51). By that I mean I have held all five capitals for the entirety of each of those turns. Those provinces haven't even been besieged or anything.
This can be verified from the attached images, though I'm sure the players still in the game will attest whether or not I hold their capital. And the players who aren't still in the game are out for a reason. ;)
So... is that sufficient? I've never won an MP game except by vote before so I'm unsure of the procedure.

XDD well played, mi first MP game and i didn´t get killed neither win. It was a lot of fun, i learned a lot from my war with c´tis, it´s a shame that battle at my capital never happened.
I can declare game finished if all of the remaining players accept Shatner´s victory.
Sooo... i am pretty sure this is victory for you, Shatner.

Capital issues not-withstanding, both you and C'tis played very well. Frankly, I'm glad I never had to face down an 80+ bone chariot charge with banefire bombardment nor the exquisitely outfitted raiding Kenzoku and Grendelkin.
Also, Bogarus fought their war very well and deserve special attention. Their only fault was fighting an enemy 4x larger, 6x wealthier and located across an otherwise impassible body of water.
