This is kinda silly but I just had to take a trip to XP's safe mode to remove an obstinate program (grrr...) and while the uninstaller was (slowly) running I noticed that there was a Brainpipe icon on the administrator desktop. When the uninstaller finally finished up I had a go at playing BP.
FYI it valiently tried to start with the level select screen, all grainy and jerky but when I tried to play everything went black and it CTDed. Oh well..
