I think that I would like to play LA Atlantis, please.
Is there any chance of CBM being used?
TigerBlood
October 1st, 2011, 02:54 AM
I'll talk it over with some of the guys that wanted to play. Some of them have an irrational dislike of mods in general, CBM in particular.
If CBM is used, it would probably be version 1.6, but at this stage, only the Assimilation mod is likely to be used.

I could jump in as LA Ulm. But I would really like to see at least CBM 1.6. Having to juggle clams and bloodstones were never my kind of fun. And its hard to be competitive in the late game without them in vanilla.

Oh right, your friend was going to play Patala right? Yea the earlier CBM versions really screwed them over. What with their reliance on clams and elephants. Oh well. We'll just have to rush them before they can get critical clam numbers!

Would you please be so kind to point me towards that Assimilation mod?
The link on Llama (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=46696) doesnt lead to anything mod-shaped.

Corinthian
October 5th, 2011, 10:45 AM
Naa. They are not kill on sight. Unlike Ermor were the problem just escalate the longer you go, LA Ry'leth actually have to pay upkeep for its freespawn. This in combination with its deadly dominion means that Ry'leth should be a harmless nuclear waste come midgame that can be safely domkilled because they cant replace their temples or recruit more mages due to negative income.
CBM fixed this problem but...
BrodieSWR
October 5th, 2011, 01:36 PM
Guys, I'm gonna drop out of this game. I just can't deal with the lack of CBM mod for this game. It's going to turn into a complete cheese-fest, full of Gem Generation items, Tartarians, and lame tactics.
I'm out.
Korwin

I second the pro vanilla sentiments!
Also, I discovered a missing province link on our pangaea map, so opened up the editer to clean it up for a hypothetical version 1.1. After the editer was open though, one thing led to another, and I have given 90% of the provinces names based on the real world. If it is possible to change the map at this stage, might I recommend we use my newly edited version? If not I'm not particularly bothered, its just a cosmetic change, plus getting rid of a hidden choke point in 'North America'. Also that will mean I won't have to painstakingly go over the Siberia portion with google maps open :D.
TigerBlood
October 5th, 2011, 03:36 PM
Sure thing. Upload the map if you like, then I can make the relevant change.
Otherwise, I guess I could re-open recruitment for this game and go from there.
I'm content to play with the revised map though. An advantage of fewer players is that turns will be revised faster.

And we each get a bit more wiggle room. In the single player testing that I did, if you started in the west it could get a bit squished...
Since we are still waiting on the squid, I won't stay up to finish the map, but should have it done for tomorrow evening

No trouble, figured you meant me.
so about the map: if anyone can see a region they know more about the names of then I do, send me a PM with some better names and I will get a version 1.2 ready. If we get it good enough I will post it on the original thread. If anyone is from West Africa or Siberia, by any chance, that would be amazing. :P
Edit: I'm also unhappy with the northern region of Australia, and "northern Australia" isn't thematic enough...
TigerBlood
October 8th, 2011, 08:29 PM
Uluru Kata Tjuta is the name of a national park in the Northern Territory. Unfortunately, there is no indiginous name that refers to the entire region.
Marege was a name used by Macassan traders and fishermen for the Northern Coast.
Rennaisance cartographers refer to the hypothetical La Grande Jave, believed to be the northern extension of Terra Australis.
Hope this gives you some ideas
Colonial
October 11th, 2011, 11:13 AM
Thanks for the info, I think I'll go with Marege. I named the southern province Ularu, which stretches a bit into the central desert.
Also, I stale one turn, and that's the turn I get jumped?! Now its going to take me forever to crush your pathetic elephants :(

There's no such guy as 'Brock' on these forums, and I cant see 'Tigerblood' amongst players. :) How can I contact our Patala?
TigerBlood
October 17th, 2011, 03:45 AM
Brock opted out of this game once he heard mods were involved, so I went with Patala instead. Sorry for not updating the main post. He may be willing to sub if required. He does not have an active account on this forum.
If Mictlan wishes to discuss an NAP, compensation or war, feel free to message me. Patala plans on retaining the buffer zone around it's capital, however.

Not much. MR is notoriously unreliable, when I see remarks like 'oh it's MR negates, how dangerous it can be' or 'with MR 18, they are safe' I want to laugh out.

TigerBlood

There is no guarantee that a rollback would help what is going on. As from about turn 45 or so, it shows Arco as being the only active player on the turn/staling log.
I have extended the turn and will fire off an e-mail to Llamabeast in order to ask him to take a look at the game. Please be patient, and I apologise for any inconvenience.

Alas, there are not many Vanilla games around, so beggars cant be choosers.
As I understand it, Ermor gets banned because its so tedious to play and many players set themselves to AI.
There are other nations where I would cast burden of time to **** with others.
So stop this crying ;)
Edit: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3411351&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=104
Look here for more Vanilla games. There they are slightly more common.
NooBliss
December 18th, 2011, 05:04 AM
Ok, thanks for the link!
And Ermor gets banned for many good reasons. One of them - it's overpowered as hell, as backed by the HoF. It's won more games than any other nation even despite it's banned most of the time; thus, when it's not banned, it's very likely to win.
BoT doesnt worry me much, to be honest. Other things do. Not so much to discourage me from attacking you, as you see... but still they are hard to ignore. :)
NooBliss
December 18th, 2011, 03:27 PM
Actually, please nevermind that. I'm sorry, it has nothing to do with you or our game anyway.

Mictlan is happy to announce that Ermorian citadels keep crumbling beneath our advancing armies. Ermor's unholy capitol lies within our reach, and our sacred warriors are just waiting for the arrival of a scientists team with a brand new anti-undead wunderwaffe. Hi. There are only four people left in the game now. It is time to break all NAPs. They no longer serve any purpose. Anyone who have an NAP with me (both of you) should consider this my 3 turn notice. (turn 62) This does not mean that I will attack within 3 turns, but.
I suggest that if anyone else also have NAPs with someone, then you should break those as well.

Well... He did summon an Eater of Dead a while back.
I will try to dispel the BoT, but dont expect much. Honestly, count how many non-astral gems do you spend? I dont spend much too. Monkeys are all about astral and blood. Ermor only casts BoT... Nexus is just about as effective as your Well of Misery was. Perhaps slightly more effective, but nothing spectacular.

So, to be blunt, I'd like it to end. I've learned one important thing: whoever fights Ermor, loses the game no matter what. If his closest competitor was lucky to conquer a large state gone AI, it's even more hopeless.

Hmm, Mictlan won this fight against Ulm. So I'm not shure what NooBliss is talking about...?
(Ulm lost an fully equipt Tartarian, an Air Queen and some Mages. Mictlan Jaguar Warrior chaff. As far as I could see no single Mage... Well I saw one sick one trying to suicied, not shure if he got his wish...)
Edit:
I'm way out of the competition, only in there to put on some fight to get an reputation as non-quitter.
So if NooBliss wants to conced the win...
The only thing I'm not shure about is his claim about Ermor being the reason he is not winning. Shure my lands dont give money, but they are pretty good site-searched.

Eh, I did a lot of things last turn. That attack was just one of many.
But good game everyone. I am absolutely not against quitting. Having to check every commander I have to see if he is about to die next turn and thus shift his gemgens to someone else is a pain.
That said my position right now is strong enough that I would probably win eventually even if Patala attacked me. And I was about try retaking the Gift of Health this turn with a 250N casting so the burden would stop being a problem.
Hey Korwin? Did you get the real replay or something? I was very surprised that he managed to storm your castle because in my replay most of his forces died or was routed and the only survivors were some five-seven mages that had knocked themselves out and some jaguar warriors that were too slow to flee. My tart fled due to the turn limit. I suspect that the main difference was that his Golem with the mage bane survived in the real battle but in my replay he was magic dueled to death. He could have killed my tart I guess.
As for arco, I would never have been able to stand this strong if it was not because the arco player diapered. I had been fighting him for most of the game already and I was only barely winning and only at great cost to myself. If I would have to pay for that cost myself I would not have been able to fight Mictlan for a very long time if at all.
As for me not attacking patala, well Arco attacked me to begin with. And as TigerBlood seemed kind of new to this game, arco and mictlan seemed to be much more dangerous to let live in the long term. I have never heard about anyone scared of attacking an admin honestly. I am a little surprised that Mictlan did not attack you however.

The only thing I'm not shure about is his claim about Ermor being the reason he is not winning. Shure my lands dont give money, but they are pretty good site-searched.
Money is a huge problem for me, tbh. My own lands are rather poor to begin with, and Mictlan's domain doesnt help here. They are also low-popuplation, which is bad for blood hunting.
And to make it worse, fighting Ermor is never fast. It costs you much time, you lose much and gain nearly nothing. Meanwhile, your neighbours fight normal enemies who can be crushed fast, and conquer populated lands. Not to mention that Ermor will, most likely, defeat you 1vs1 if he knows what he's doing.
As for arco, I would never have been able to stand this strong if it was not because the arco player diapered. I had been fighting him for most of the game already and I was only barely winning and only at great cost to myself. If I would have to pay for that cost myself I would not have been able to fight Mictlan for a very long time if at all.
It sucks when large nations go AI. Still, well played. Consider it a payback for whatever that game was, where you played Tien Chi and nearly won by rushing everyone at the same time. :)
I am a little surprised that Mictlan did not attack you however.
Metagame... I didnt know our Ermor is actually just learning the basics of his nation, so I was really preparing to try and stop him. Normally, ignoring Ermor and letting it conquer others one by one is a suicide. And I expected Patala to prevent you from conquering all of Arco's lands, or mb help me against Ermor and, later, against you. Alas.

I have no idea what I was doing as Patala. I have a small amount of experience subbing for Lanka, but no other MP experience with the monkey nations.
I was clamming from about turn 20 or so. I have 70+ clams, though I might have lost a few due to BoT. Aside from making more clams, the only thing I was doing was focusing on Patala's astral summons and trying to get a blood economy up and running. My efforts at creating a blood stone factory were hindered by the fact that only my pretender was natively able to create blood stones. I managed to empower one of my Naga in blood, but that was relatively recent.
I realised about turn 50, that clams are not all they are cracked up to be (at least for my play style). A gem-gen income means very little unless you have an effective outlet for all of those extra gems, plus mage turns become more important as the game drags on. I did manage to summon a few decent astral commanders and forged a few Rings of Sorcery and a pair of Rings of Wizardry, but the majority of my astral went into Dispels, cheap summons and boosters.
I am sure someone with more experience would have had a better strategy.
In any case, if there are no objections, then Corinthian as Ulm can be named the victor. I'll give it 24 hours, then make it official, unless someone wants to continue. I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve, and I could probably slow Ulm down for a couple of turns, but I doubt I could prevent them from overruning Patala.

I think everyone had money problems in this game. The only provinces on the map that regularly got more than 5000 pop would be the ones in the north around arco. In my neck of the woods there was only forests and mountains and Patala started in a desert and never got out of it. Atleast I did not have many close neighbors. By comparison Patala was doomed by the fact that even had its provinces not been terrible, it started in the very middle of the map surrounded by everyone. Had he gone to war someone else would probably have stabbed him in the back due to him bordering so many other people.
Thinking of it, Mictlan probably had among the better starting positions when it comes to money. Atleast when it comes to the water provinces. Too bad that he had some of the worst scales that i have ever seen in an MP game ever. Drain 3? Really? for a nation with sacred 60g researchers? I have actually seen LA R'lyeth played with stronger scales than that. And no Oracle pretender? Though I guess Mictlan dont need much research in the first half of the game.
And also, I though there was a law that said that LA Mictlan must take the oracle pretender!

I have more or less overcome my drain-3 research, actually. Mictlan can (barely) afford it because its dominion doesnt spread automatically, so I've moved all my researchers to another castle.
And the scales - well, try to squeeze a good bless in vanilla Dominion without sacrificing your scales. Mictlan is all about bless, after all. And Monolith allowed me to take N4 bless in addition to astral/fire.
All in all, it may not be THE best choice, but it was solid enough. I think I'd have a very good chance at winning the game, were it not LA Ermor in this game and Arco gone AI.
At the very least, we'd have quite a war over the throne. :)
Gratz.

Frashkart is now officially finished. Ulm is victorious. Congratulations Corinthian!
Thank you everyone for playing. Best of luck in future games.
