From a recent Greek Army military exercise.

Any idea what it is?

Given that it's army, and given the known Greek army ATGM (Kornet, Tow 2, Milan, Fagot) - I would posit that it's a launcher for Kornet.

Why you would need such a thing - probably based on the twin vehicle mount launcher (9P163M-1 "Kornet-T" on BMP-3 chassis) ? - I have no idea. Perhaps a training item for range instruction that saves using the vehicle?. An engineering test item which will be fitted to some other vehicle (M150/M901 chassis) eventually?.

No idea. For some reason it reminded me of the first game Command and Conquer where you could build SAM launcher inside the ground which would then pop up from the ground to attack the target and then go back inside the ground for protection. I am obviously not saying this is the case, just that it reminded me of that.
When I first saw it (the photo) it felt so strange as to ask here :)
I don't have an answer, but I guess any of your suggestions could be it. Thanks. :)

No hand holds for carrying and no wheels either, does not look like it pops out of the ground at all,but placed there.
Yep, looks like a training apparatus.
But what gets me,is why have it so low?,better to have it higher for when mounted on an AFV.

Looks like a standard M901 ITV "hammerhead" to me. The rest of the vehicle is likely obscured in a hull-down position (or just in tall grass). This was the whole point of developing the ITV's configuration.

yes - That is it. doing a google image search on M901 shows the little triangular hood sight on the top, as per this item. The hydraulic rams are visible at the side, and you can just make out the drivers (?) hatch at the front left in the grass.

It's a shot of a hull down or dug in M901.

wow, that's even more impressive to me.

Some times I wish I went to the army instead of the navy. (not often though :p )
