I recently tried to fool around with the Patala nagas for early expansion, making use of their awe to great effect but i had one really big problem. Namely, my research tanked quickly because i couldn't use anything to command the nagas other than naga commanders because i needed 'magic units command' and holy (to bless the nagas). (CBM has awe for nagas)

So while after turn 4 or so i was able to field an expansion party every single turn, i wasn't able to accumulate very much research until i g0t a second fortress.

Can anyone think of a solution to this problem?

Do you really need an expansion party every turn? When your neighbours find out you've overextended, they'll ally against you and beat you. Just don't expand that much and keep some researchers. Don't spend all your gold on early troops, so you can buy a second castle + temple + lab faster.

Its an SP game. just to try some stuff out.

Even with an MP game you don't want to send out every second mage. Any ideas on getting around this problem Ldi (or others)?

In CBM 1.92 the Crown of Command only requires Construction-2 and S1 to forge. Give it to a Brahmin (or an indie priest) and suddenly they can lead 50 more normal troops and 25 magical troops (including nagas) while still being able to bless them. If you have an awake pretender to do the early research, you can hit con-2 in no time flat.

It's not perfect but you have native astral income and can alchemize for the rest of the pearls needed early on.

EDIT: this goes doubly well if you have a great enchantress since she produces astral pearls in addition to being an excellent researcher.

Also, if you prophetize a yogi (can only lead 10 naga but is map move 2) or a guru (can lead 25 but is map move 1) on turn 2 than that's one more inexpensive, early mage-priest to lead and bless some naga troops.

Nagarishis should work fine to lead nagas. Make sure they're in naga form. Maybe pass out some crowns of command

Huh! Would you look at that, nagas are just a bit less crappier now. Tho still nowhere worth recruiting...
