This could be a cool new airdefence weapon, anyone have any ideas how it could be incorporated into the game.

Lasers while "cool" are currently impractical outside fixed area defenses due to the enormous amounts of power needed to generate a "lethal" beam.
WinSPMBT is a tactical game. You can build a Maginot Line - a one-time single-scenario thing but it's not really worth the time and effort.
Now if WinSPMBT only had mobile hydroelectric plants ... :angel

Yes you've got a point about the power requirements. This kind of weapon would be better suited in a fixed position. The Patriot Sam's use alot power as well, the game assumes the Radar,Masts,Control station, Power plant are are in a fix position off-map somewhere. The Electric Power Plant (ECP) has two 150KW diesel engines to help power generators.
A 1KW laser weapon mounted on a vehicle was demonstrated destroying IED's successfully and a moving fastboat in the link's article. (Toaster Power)
There are probably simpler mods that could be done to the game than laser weapons. I can see laser weapons being common use on vehicles 20 to 25 years into the future.
