Well, CoE3 should be released tomorrow and I thought it may be nice if whoever wants to posts here when he gets it. Also can post which first class he's gonna play. How long lasted his first session and any and all impressions :)

I plan to play druid first and I expect my first playing session to last 5 mins. right before taking the kids to kindergarten :D

I'm going random, take things as they come. My game will probably last 10 minutes.

I recommend Baron. Its the easiest to get grips on. Standard knights, longbow, swordsmen, pikes. Some mercenary mages show up.

But I admit that I rushed straight into my favorite one of Druid. Halfway thru the game I realized I had been doing it totally wrong.

The poll Id like to see is...
How many games will you play before you open the manual?

I posted this over at desura...

I'll be going with Burgmeister first. In anticipation of CoE3 I've been playing the crap out of #2 and I'm interested in trying something a little different than what I've already been playing with.

From what I've seen in Letsplays, AAR's and such, all of the classes have been added to/changed/improved enough to make them all feel fresh, but... c'mon. My first character is going to be named Bilbo. Whatchuknowabout Hobbits?

Well, that poll is now up on the Desura forum... :D

LOL my Desura client says that the game "will be available to play in 0 days". Too bad they left out the # of minutes to release :)

I take it the release will be tomorrow after all - and probably after breakfast time Australia clock :p

Yes, it would be. Midnight Central European time would be 1 AM here and something like 8 AM or 9 AM in Australia, depending on whether one lives on the east or west coast.

Kristoffer, if you are indeed working on a new game, I hope you are nearing completion (though I suspect you would have said something by now if you were), because Stardock seems to be having a hard time with their Fantasy 4x game and Dominions 3 (and COE 2) seem to share a similar target audience.

Dominions 3 requires a lot of commitment to play and I love the game, but have a hard time coming back to it because it is so multiplayer-oriented. The cheesed-out min-max fest that usually accompanies multiplayer strategy games turns me off, though I have had some fun experiences with Dom 3. And the time it takes to complete a multiplayer game makes it difficult to finish one.

However, COE is a game that I keep coming back to. Heck, I played it again last night. Like others here, I hope the next game is a mix between the two styles.

Cheers!

It would seem as tough my prayers have been answered! At least with the next Illwinter game ;)

The #coe3 channel on irc.gamesurge.net has already had an MP game.
Everyone allied against one maximum setting AI.
They all seemed to have fun.

Having a lot of fun so far, getting white screen flickers but this is not the only app to get that, something to do with my card [Radeon 4870].

Could really use an autosave feature sometimes...

--autosave=DUH
will save the game to DUH every turn.
Im not making fun of you. Thats really how I have it on mine because when I need it, thats what I am saying

yeah the game is pretty much a blast right now. I played right through The Walking Dead without realizing it.

Seems fun, but I am unable to play it :-(

Got a strange graphics glitch which I can't seem to get around. Maybe something to do with my graphics card (Nvidia 560TI) and drivers (tried the old ones, newest ones and beta ones).

Sigh.

Got it and setting up WormLord the druid to conquer the dark ages ;)

Excellent work on the manual Edi. It's superb!

Excellent Game!

I am currently going to set up a game using the editor to make a map around 75x75 and then to populate it with more farms, mines, villages etc.

Then i am going to play as a baron against a team of two or three burgmeisters and another team of two or three bakemono's.

The idea being that the additional resources will suit all parties (The burgmeisters will be able to add more hobur villages, the bakemono's will get extra troops from mines and my baron will get more conscripts.

Should be a good game and create some decent size empires and armies.

Again, congrats to the developers for such an easy to learn but deep game with so many varient ways of playing.

hey, if you make a nice map feel free to share it :)

BTW, the coe3 forums are here: http://www.desura.com/games/conquest-of-elysium-3/forum

Yes, the game is fun. It's like a simpler dom made for SP RPG.

Do not know where I should post this. But, good job on the release and development of CoE3. Kudos Illwinter. I'm not going to get the game. But still good to see that Illwinter is still developing. Thanks for everything!

CoE3 is a great game! I am having a blast, and have enjoyed playing all of the factions I have tried so far. I am having a great epic game now as a Necromancer against a three-senator alliance of Romans.

PvK! Good to see you.
Have you tried any of the "Trial by Fire" challenges?
Its on the forum for www.CoE-3.com (http://www.CoE-3.com)
Its been pretty popular. Im thinking maybe I should do something like it for Dom3 on www.Dom3Minions.com

There are also some fun downloadable maps there.

Hi Gandalf,

I just started trying the first "commoner" challenge from Trial By Fire, and it has been an addicting epic battle, which I think I am about to win, but it has taken like 20 years of game time. I ended up as a Cultist facing a Necromancer, and it was a long (fun) undertaking.

New game?

That's exciting. :)

Gandalf Parker
February 24th, 2013, 10:07 PM
Very. Its Dom3 lite.
Much more solo game, much less micromanagment, and better Ais. Plus besides maps and mods, it supports scenarios. You can create downloadable maps with storys and quests and lairs and rewards and timed world-events.

Just abit ago it was on sale on Steam for $2.5o but the ever promised Steaming Hordes have not yet showed up as promised. :(

Greetings, GP.

Dom3 Lite might be just what the doctor ordered. Is it a game that can be MP?

Gandalf Parker
February 24th, 2013, 11:15 PM
It CAN be. But so far the reactions to CoE3 MP have been rather like the reactions to Dom3 as a solo game. It might be ok as a blitz game in a chat room though.

It doesnt help that none of the MP beta testers showed up.

PvK

CoE 3 might be thought of as Dom "Lite" but it's also fairly different in various ways. I have really enjoyed it. And yes, it can be played multi-player.

Gandalf Parker

I do love the "Team" play. You can do so MUCH with your ally. Use their cities, use their libraries. Even the AI plays as a great team member.

Excellent. Thanks for the explanation.

The problem that CoE3 will face is that it's users are only a small portion of the 'gaming' population. I used to play Dwarf Fort and other non-graphics based, high learning curve games. These days, I come home from work and wouldn't dream of starting a game of dwarf fort or trying to learn how to play an in depth, complex game. Sometimes I do buy new games, but I just load them up and look at them, and think....wow, there's a lot to this game. Too bad I don't have the time or energy to learn it.

So....CoE4 needs to be more intuitive, and simplerer. And make it perty for the love of GOD!

Gandalf Parker
February 27th, 2013, 12:27 AM
At the moment the biggest problem I see is that the niche CoE3 player base is actually a subset of the niche Dom3 player base. A niche of a niche. :)

The MP of CoE3 pretty much sucks unless you are hotseating or maybe blitzing in IRC. CoE3 is much better for solo, better AI, and supports scenarios. But its hard to get a subset of Dom3 diehards who want that. Many of them try it and are unhappy at the non-Dom3ness of it.

On the other hand, it is on Steam. For years we have been promised that would give us the Steaming Horde of players. Im really hopeful of some NWNers or other migrants from scenario and campaign games.

TODAY the Conquest of Elysium 3 game is on sale for 75% off on GamersGate.com which makes its price $2.50 US

And it was recently on sale for the same amount on Steam but I havent seen much from that. Maybe because there is no more Public Relations person for Illwinter.

Speaking of lack of PR...
Dominions 3 is on Greenlight trying to also get onto Steam. It did not pass last months roster so please everyone go vote for it and spread the word. :(
