Just a real quickie: have been trying to get my Arco priestess to heal a (astral) Golem I have. He got feeble-minded mind hunting. She hasn't had any success. Is there something about him (lifeless? mindless?) that means she may as well be p****ng in the wind? Or do I just need to persist?

Dude you have the perfect Golem...
Boots of speed, lead shield, Stymphalian wings, ect...
I like the horror hat myself.
But now he's not able to be hunted...
Party on, don't heal it...
What's your starting magic resist right now?

Err, 15 MR at present.
But I want him healed! Was quite happy with him as he was. I was assuming priestesses would heal after mind hunt.

Hang on! You're not saying, or are you, that Golem's MR is preventing him getting healed??

No, I'm saying gild the lilly...
You have a SC of the eye-watering type...
It can't be dueled...
Why do you want to heal it???

Note to self, construct a golem, have it mindhunt a known astral province, kit it out, ??? profit.

The heal skill only affects living, non-old creatures (i.e. not undead, not demon, not lifeless). Golems are lifeless, so no healing. The only options available for healing a golem is the chalice (an artifact which heals units in the province of the guy holding it) and the global spell Gift of Health (which affects all units in friendly dominion.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of this tactic before. It seems so obvious, in retrospect. That said, I haven't tested the affect of Magic Duel on creatures that one had astral but lost it via feebleminding, so it might not actually help meaningfully.

Well shatter deals with golems quite fine, so it's a one trick pony...
SCs used to be the bomb in dom2.
Now they have to travel in groups to work well...

That's ridiculous. Individual SCs can carve right through armies, provided that said armies don't have SCs of their own coming with them, or mages scripted to screw SCs right over. Moreover, shatter tends not to work as well as it seems like it should, as anything you are likely to use it on is probably going to cut you apart first - unless you have a Troll King or similar use it, which brings me back to the enemy SC caveat. Then there's the matter of PD - a decent SC can cut down 125 PD without difficulty, which means that the mere presence of SCs is one of the preventative measures that prevents players from spending a huge amount of money on PD.

That's only a problem when you aren't the one with the SCs. In any case, the need for special counters and the capability to wreck PD and smaller, less equipped armies is plenty of indication that SCs are still good. That it tends not to end well when they land on an army, get hit by 40 Paralyze attempts, and only then start get to act is more an indication that they are balanced than that they aren't.

Instead of paralyze try charm and hellbind heart...
Only works against the living, but...
I had a battle with a earth king fully outfitted...
It was funny, he switched sides about 5 times in the same battle...
I ended up with him back, but that was due to rune smashers and other pen. items...
But he flew back and forth...
