View Full Version : Tip Invading heroes?

Hi there, what is the best approach to free a province that was invaded by the standard hero group (Dark Knight, Bogus & C.)?

I am playing Late Abysia and we are around turn 30. Since the only SC I have is my pretender and the dark knight has impossible stats (like 27 in defence and protection), I am planning a massed Mind Burn assault. Any other viable strategy that you can think of?

Deal with them like you would with any invading army of SC's.

The best you can do is to make lemonade out of the lemons. Hellbind heart, charm , enslave can net you some nice fire power. You'll want redundancy and flyers to distract the back row. Surround your mages with guards so you don't get whacked right off. Last game I grabbed Bogus but was too aggressive in my scripting (devils with attack rear, archers) and killed the rest of the crew before I could hellbind them (as EA Abysia). A few games back I charmed 3 of them and made surprisingly good use of the archer.

Remember it is considered an exploit to copy their unique orders :attack Mage, etc to your other commanders. However, IMHO it's ok to leave them with those orders..

The air and the earth/astral mages will buff the first round. The flyer will go right for your mages...

Also, do a ****ING search. Bogus comes up at least twice each month.

You might want to equip your valuable commanders with cheap shields, or other missile defence, as one of the Trolls will fire at commanders.

Bodyguards will help defend against the Dark Knight. Lots of blood slaves will do in a pinch, but you would be better off using decent fighters.

You might want a mage summoning chaff units to counter the Ghost Wolves. Imps would work if you have a spare blood mage. Otherwise a large squad of infantry would be enough.

You might have some luck with a communion/sabbath followed by hellbind heart, but expect to lose a few communicants. You'll want a minimum of 2 slaves, preferably more than 4, as well as multiple masters.

Failing that, you could just attack with about 40 heavy cavalry. Just make sure you have a few spare commanders handy. You'll probably lose about half, but you stand a good chance of taking most of them out on the first attack.

I used 5 mages and one commander. Fire Mage cast flaming arrows, 4 blood mages in a communion casting hellbind/bloodlust. I lost a couple devils and 5 militia chaff and no commanders (lucky). In hindsight I wish I would have done hold and attack instead attack rear/archers. More risk for more reward.

capturing the archer troll would be spectacular

Yeah, the exploit functions are used in my crowd...

Get blessed with Bogus, copy the orders, kick ***...

But we are a simple lot...

In a current game with the mod nation Sylvania, I also got 3 with HH. I'm pretty sure I would have gotten more but for the zeal of my new recruits. iirc, the dark knight flew right at the troll mage and killed him quickly. I think the other guy went down to Bogus himself. Best laid plans and all ... :)

Does any of them have fire resistance? I am considering spamming Incinerate.

Great spell, and no they don't.

But you can get them to join you...
