What is the exact funcion of Boots of Youth? Do they protect their wearer from getting old age afflictions, or do they simply prevent him from ageing further, but afflictions may occur anyway if he already passed the age limit?

If this is the case, I can envisage a combo Boots of Youth + Rejuvenate. Am I right? However, in most cases Rejuvenate (or a couple of Rejuvenates) will bring the character well below the onset of old age. So what is the purpose of spamming Boots of Youth anyway?

They protect the wearer from normal end of turn aging and getting afflictions. They do not prevent the burden of time effect iirc.

You can use the boots on non-blood commanders.

You're definitely right about that - BoT just destroyed my boots of youth equipped Abysian warlocks. That's a case where I wished I had gone for a couple of rejuvenates instead.
