I have a question concerning commander skill of different units.

Lets say I have a section of anti tank guns and I want to upgrade them to self proppeled AT guns (PaKs to Jagpanzers for example). Or howitzers to Stugs.

Does their performance decrease because their commanders have big artillery rating and small armour rating?

Perhaps, if they were indirect arty before. But not so much as you might notice.

The biggest benefactor of arty skill is FOOs and indirect arty (it along with experience helps to reduce time to call in fires).

The other skill ratings are only used rarely to "coach" subordinates in direct fire, and then only if the leader is quite close (~3 hexes).

So basically nice to have, but not worth worrying greatly about.

Experience is more relevant to most things.

And would their ability as *now* armored vehicles be worse than potentialy new purchased formations?

I am comparing Jpzs converted from AT guns with new purchased Jpzs, whose commanders have big armor rating instead of artillery rating.

I am just curious.

Now, maybe I misunderstand something, but I think that the overal performace of individual units (like one vehicle) is somehow improved by ability of said vehicle commander.

Or is it that only the ability of formation commander (B0, C0, etc.) does matter?

Suck it and see then - probably not noticeable IMHO.
