Helheim!

Reverend Zombie
April 1st, 2012, 11:03 PM
Lanka, please.

I'm strictly speaking not a noob, but it's been a good 5 or so years since I've played regularly, and I was never very good to begin with. Also, the current version of CBM is alien to me, so I feel like noob where that's concerned.

Knai

Sauromatia or Arcocephale for me.

bobskizzle
April 2nd, 2012, 12:34 AM
Ermor here.

(I don't expect to do terribly well so I'll do this game concurrently with the Team game)

The Eagle Kings kindly asks the Abysians to keep their flames low to the ground so you don't singe our wings! Especially those Fire-breathers Holey...keep em tame!!

We also say hello to The Russian_Comrade and other friends out there. Cheers Mates!

Yeah. Hello, birdies. Do you know that in some strange world the eagle is the symbol of rotten capitalism and consumerism? But we fear not the strange imagery - for the world is full of future friends. They may even resist our friendship but friendship conquers all at the end. The way of true friendship may be hard - it will be a difficult road with a lot of necessary sacrifices to do. But no cost is too great to see All Under Heaven united at last.

My communist nation will bring law and order in this world. We are but are modest followers of Great Leader Chairman. We wish nothing but peace and prosperity for the entire world.

All will become one with the Great Tien Chi!

I like the look of this map guys: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attac...1&d=1248122009..

20 provinces each roughly, only a tiny amount of sea provinces.... what do you think?

mattyburn7
April 2nd, 2012, 07:42 PM
I like that idea. Some room for growth, etc.

Angry_Hominid
April 2nd, 2012, 07:53 PM
Ok with a consensus of 2 I proclaim that map to be the one :). I have set up the game on llama server titled Stumble_to_Victory.

I can still alter all settings so if you have any suggestions let me know...

Lets get pretenders uploaded!

Lunaje

What's the map's name? The link doesn't work for me.

- Not a problem anymore. Got it from the created game at llamaserver

ill sign up as vanheim, this will be my 6-7th game of dominions 3.

Reverend Zombie

So, when we say "default" these days, does that mean independent strength of 5?

Peacekeeper
April 2nd, 2012, 11:14 PM
sorry, id like to reconsider and pick up EA arco instead.

HoleyDooley
April 2nd, 2012, 11:31 PM
Hi Matty and Comrade, nice to see some familiar faces.

Peacekeeper, good choice mate, Arco rocks...cough cough.

In my capable hands I am getting soundly trounced in a current MP game and two others I am in, Arco is running dead last.

Good luck bro, you might need it.

Angry_Hominid
April 2nd, 2012, 11:38 PM
No worries man with the change... arco it is :)

Angry_Hominid
April 2nd, 2012, 11:40 PM
Independent strength is 5 yes, as with everything im happy to change any settings as I havent done this before...

HoleyDooley
April 2nd, 2012, 11:49 PM
Ah I see Keith is back as well having another bash at Hinnom.

Better luck this time mate. I am steering clear of them, they certainly take an advanced knowledge of the game to do well with.

Great commanders, almost SC in their build, but they piss the population off no end!

Peacekeeper
April 3rd, 2012, 02:57 AM
after looking at the map im having doubts with it. While at first look it should be 20 provinces per person, it has 13 set starting positions on land, so really it will be less for most and a lot more for a lucky few.

Calahan
April 3rd, 2012, 03:37 AM
There is another version of this map that I did with fixed starts for 12+1 nations (so that's 12 Land starts and 1 Water start). So if you are going for 12 nations, then this second version will be much better than the 13+1 version which you are currently using.

But of course you will have problems if anyone picks a water nation, as if only 11 land nations start then some nations are going to have a lot of room to expand into where the missing nation would have been (and will get a big advantage compared to nations in other areas. As pointed out above by Peacekeeper)

The link for the 12+1 version is here
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=775421

and on the llamaserver it's just below the map currently selected for this game (it's called "Riverlands for 12+1 (Andalusian Sun - The Restart")

Angry_Hominid
April 3rd, 2012, 05:13 AM
Ok change made to the 12+1 version of the map.... nobodies gone water so no issue there :).

Knai
April 3rd, 2012, 11:10 AM
Would it be possible to resubmit the pretender? I'm thinking that my design was inefficient and could use some fairly major improvement.

HoleyDooley
April 3rd, 2012, 11:24 AM
You can resubmit the pretender design any time until the game kicks off. it will over write the previous one and you will get an email confirmation as such.

Russian_Comrade
April 3rd, 2012, 04:13 PM
Are there some trouble with llamaserver? I sent my pretender (and my turn in thee other game) but didn't receive any answer.

Angry_Hominid

Yeah I think there is an issue with llamaserver..... Ive tried to upload on another game no dice...

We appear to be waiting on Procyon Lotor to submit Ulm, with everyone else having submitted.

Greetingsss Mortals from his most Divine Lord, Xar'Dul, God of Mountain Springs, Warrior Against the Sun, God of Insects (all non C'tis!). I am emissary Lorduk and I bring news of good tidings and salvation from Xar'Dul and the magnificent Serpent Empire of C'tis!

(Game started , Goodluck everyone! :)

Procyon Lotor

Crud, you started without me. I had internet trouble last night, so couldn't get my pretender up.

Good luck, and I will destroy you all next time!

Lunaje
April 4th, 2012, 09:07 AM
Now that you say it, I notice there is a R'lyeh instead of Procyon's Ulm. But I don't see a R'yleh in the player list.
This is....weird. Did I miss something?

mattyburn7
April 4th, 2012, 09:37 AM
And Map was chosen exclusively because there were no water nations? It looks like someone crashed the party? We may want to restart with R'lyeh and get the other player back in.

HoleyDooley
April 4th, 2012, 11:00 AM
Admin, please delete the pretender of R'lyeh.

Procyon, when you see the game accepting pretenders again, please submit yours and post here so we know it was you who submitted the pretender.

To whomever was the jerk who submitted R'lyeh, go away!

bobskizzle
April 4th, 2012, 11:32 AM
Also, turn off any victory points settings, as you can see other players' capitals from turn 1.

Peacekeeper
April 4th, 2012, 11:43 AM
its not a victory condition, the points are just random on the map for some reason or at least my capital didnt have one.

KeithZ
April 4th, 2012, 01:24 PM
So the game will be recreated and we have to resent our pretender , right? I saw most of the players had handed in the first turn...

mattyburn7
April 4th, 2012, 01:30 PM
We'll have to redo our first turn. Not sure if we have to resubmit pretenders. I don't think we'll have to do that...Just delete the R'lyeh pretender and have the other chap send his in.

Calahan
April 4th, 2012, 01:58 PM
There is no need to re-create the game, as if you

1 - Go to admin options menu on the llamaserver page and select the "Un-Start game (go back to "Waiting for Pretenders")" option.

2 - The game will (or should) go back to the top of the llamaserver screen under the "Games waiting for Pretenders" section. All the Pretenders that were sent in for the game should be listed there (anyone wishing to change their Pretender can also do so at this point)

3 - Go into the "Game settings and admin options" menu, select the "Delete Pretender" option, tick the circle next to R'yleh to select that Pretender, enter the admin password in the box, and click on Delete Pretender button.

4 - The missing player uploads their Pretender.

5 - Go into "Game Settings and admin options" again and select "Start Game Now".

6 - The game should start a few minutes later.

Doing it this way means players don't have to re-upload their Pretenders again (which would be the case if a new game was created)

Although I can't remember if you need to do a further step, which is...

2b - Quickly go into the "Game Settings and Admin options" menu and select "Turn off automatic start".

It's been a long while since I restarted a game, but I seem to remember that the llamaserver can sometimes re-start an un-created game because the default setting is for games to start once all Pretedners are in. So when you un-start a game, all the Pretenders are there, and so the game will start automatically again if you don't do step 2a or 3 fairly quickly (but llamabeast might have fixed this at some point, so it might work properly now, but thought I'd mention it anyway just in case)

mattyburn7
April 4th, 2012, 02:12 PM
And apologies to Procyon Lotor - Ulm. I keep forgetting you!!

Lunaje
April 4th, 2012, 02:46 PM
Maybe a PM from admin is in order here, he may not be checking the thread anymore.

mattyburn7
April 4th, 2012, 03:11 PM
I'll send PM to check Thread.

Angry_Hominid
April 4th, 2012, 08:19 PM
Alrighty, game has been reset all pretenders except for Proycon Lotor remain and I have deleted the Ry'Leh pretender...

As for the victory points, they weren't enabled in the first place so I think its just a map "feature" that doesn't actually line up with actual capitals...

I have disabled automatic start so if the game doesn't start overnight dont panic, im southern hemisphere and will start tomorrow :).

bobskizzle
April 4th, 2012, 09:02 PM
Well it did coincide with my capital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Angry_Hominid
April 5th, 2012, 07:39 PM
OK in the interests of getting this game moving, and having no response from Proycon im going to open this up again to recruit one more person.....

To the person who may be interested in playing - please choose a race other than a water race and upload your pretender so I can start the game - no requirement to wait my response!

Peacekeeper
April 5th, 2012, 07:42 PM

Angry_Hominid
April 5th, 2012, 07:45 PM
Thats fine and he can still upload his pretender if hes quick but he hasnt replied to my email at all so I dont feel like we should discount the possibility that he doesnt want to play.

I want to get the game started.

ive got a couple trouble provinces around me, mainly a stack of 100 barbarians which i have no idea how im going to deal with in any reasonable amount of time. i am still confident that ill be ahead of the province graph after this turn though thanks to the mercenary pick up in the first turn.

As someone with way too much Arco practice, I'll just say this:
Slingers are surprisingly effective against low protection, no shield, mediocre movement units. They are also cheap, easy to mass, and capable of providing siege fodder.

Angry_Hominid

This....

The indies do seem tough... it was on 5 but then again I thought renaming was on too so if its higher...

HoleyDooley
April 8th, 2012, 02:38 AM
I think its set higher.

I am getting my arse handed to me big time. Plus I am attacking the "easy" pickings. The others, the BIG ones, will certainly take some beating.

Acro is really good on expanding... It is 11 provinces right now?

mattyburn7

Yea. Everyone else is about even on provinces. Arco is pulling away a bit.

Knai
April 9th, 2012, 04:48 PM
Yea. Everyone else is about even on provinces. Arco is pulling away a bit.

Arco is doing well, and I suspect some sloppiness on the part of other nations (myself very much included. I need to remember to test new strategies more thoroughly).

Peacekeeper
April 9th, 2012, 06:34 PM
11 provinces, but that growth will be slowing as i have neighbours who obviously want to lay claim to land now.

mattyburn7
April 10th, 2012, 12:56 PM
Procyon: When I click on your name the dropdown gives me an option for Private Messaging (which wasn't there before so that is good), but then I still get a message that either you won't receive PM's or you aren't allowed. Not sure what's up.

Anyway. I got your message in game (Caelum). Wanted to reply back here so we don't have any unfortunate conflicts (I'll send more detailed message in game).

I am fine with spirit of the post. No need for hostilities between us.

The province on the other side of the bridge from you. I am next to it and will attack into it this turn since its on my side. If you are unsure what I'm referring to, send me a post back.

Cheers Mate!

byrs guide to turning on PMs:

at the top of your screen, just under the thread title, there will be a list of options in white with a black background (user CP, forum rules, chat, etc). Click on User CP. Once there, under the "settings & options" section, open up "edit options". The second section will be Messaging and Notifications, find the Private Messaging and make sure your "Enable Private Messaging" is checked. Once checked, please dont forget to scroll down to the bottom of the page and Save Changes.

Procyon Lotor
April 10th, 2012, 01:53 PM
. . . and do NOT check the box that limits your private messages to folks on your contacts list, which is right below the "enable private messaging" box. I sort of checked boxes willy-nilly, which is why people couldn't PM me.

Problem solved.

Notice how stupid I am? You should let me live, and not prioritize me for destruction.

Peacekeeper
April 10th, 2012, 02:24 PM
make sure the box thats "only receive PMs from mods and admins" isnt checked too.

Regarding game rules and borderline exploits, what's the policy on sticking slave collars on mercenary mages?

mattyburn7

Good question. I don't know if I've seen that listed as an exploit. Any opinions from any others?

hehe, sorry bout that eagle king. =)

so far my expansion went well, only real run in with other people over it was your king. I lucked out and found a province i could recruit scouts in so its given me a good idea of what the world looks like. And so far everyone has been a pleasure to deal with, ive been enjoying my time here.

mattyburn7
April 16th, 2012, 07:14 PM
Yea. Scouts can be scarce in EA. I lucked out also. Last province I grabbed produces scouts. That's a big bonus. The Caelum native scout is nice with the Move 3 - Flying.

Hats off to the Pegasus. They were on me faster than my King could say Blessing .

What a sad day for our world.
The evil beast known as "war" came and now is grinning in anticipation.
What a terrible grin!
Noble people of sky clashed with the wise lizards. Savage demons with their monkey slaves (Damn you, capitalist oppressors of the working class! I can only hope that some day monkeys will rebel against their masters!) attacked my noble army.
And now my people fighting not against the nation of Lanka - but against that beast. This is not just a noble goal - this is the one true goal for any human being. To be able to hold the line against the nightmare itself. To overcame it - or die fighting it.
But I know that this all will pass. The land will unite. There will be but one nation under great heaven. There will be peace - eternal peace. There will be one nation. One will. One purpose.

In a map this small? I'm honestly surprised I haven't seen more violence than there's been in my corner of the world. There are some expansive peaceful borders right now, along with what is quickly devolving into "Everyone take chunks out of C'tis".

And I sympathize. I missed a turn last weekend thanks to a misunderstanding as to when the turn was due. Just enjoy the extra unspent $$$, and don't think about lost time.

Hey can I ask if people want to change game settings or request time extensions rollbacks ect that you PM me? I log into this forum every day but I am involved in a number of games (as I know alot of you are also) and I simply dont have the time and often just forget to check individual threads for each game.

A PM will ensure quick and timely action should it be required. Thanks for your co-operation..

Diplomatic proclamation from Tien Chi.

The Great Chairman of Tien Chi hereby declares that in the really unlikely event of his demise and destruction of People's Army from the devil-beasts of Lanka his comrades and neighbors from nations of Hinnom, Abysia and Helheim may intervene and save the people of the Tien Chi from capitalistic demonic monkeys by occupying undefended provinces. Also all of Tien Chi's treasury will be divided by the saviors of its people. This outcome may be truly unthinkable but The Great Chairman is doing everything possible to protect his beloved nation and must prepare to the most unimaginable things.

[/RP mode]
So here it is - if I'm going to be beaten by Lanka (which would be really easy to notice thanks to the graphs, 80-90% drop in army size), I'll ask you guys to invade my territory and I'll divide my money and gems between my neighbors. Of course, only between the neighbors who are having NAP with me. I'm doing this because of two reasons:
1. One nation sent me an NAP dissolution because this nation fears that the Lanka is going to become too powerful after capturing all of my territory - and this is my solution to that problem.
2. Because Lanka will gain lesser by defeating me and I'm feeling somewhat spiteful here.

Also, I'm interested in any alliance propositions against Lanka. Seriously, guys, anyone else here want to hunt some demons?

mattyburn7

Unfortunately it appears as if I'm far far away from you in this game. I'll have to stay uninvolved in the demonic monkey wars.

A terrible and useless battle happened. All battle are terrible and useless (expect those which are fought for peace, and I had such a battle last turn - it was terrible but necessary) but this one in particular. Attacking a peace-loving nation, trying to rush over it's army, all in trying to enslave it - such a disgusting thing to do! This turn wasn't delayed besides Sauromatia giving notice of his need for a sub. So this nation (and Ulm too) staled.
Pointing this because I'm in a pretty awkward position. My planned attack on Sauro doesn't feel fair conducted on a unresponsive enemy and this is many turns of planning going limbo.
We should stop until this situation is solved.

An interesting fact: the place where Hinnom lost lots of its troops is the same where Lanka lost lost of its troops.

Once again - we held the line. Even with some suicidal sacrifices.

Surely, attacking Great Communist Republic of Tien Chi - which, by the way only did its international duty to protect poor people of Ulm from being eaten alive - is somewhat more entertaining than attacking a leaderless nation.

Austen
August 18th, 2012, 09:54 PM
This seems to be one of the difficulties of having a game without clear victory conditions. My understanding is Lanka and I are supposed to script attacks on the next turn.

I am ok wih going a couple more turns if Rev. wants, but maybe we say if in 3-4 turns things still look much like this we call the game? My turns take a long damn time.

Also, just to be clear, I'm also ok with calling it now, because. you know.. my turns take a long damn time ;)

Reverend Zombie

Let's don't prolong this on my account. Ermor?

jimbojones1971
August 19th, 2012, 04:02 AM
Yeah, fair cop.

I'm pretty sure I can preserve some form of territorial integrity and remain viable for maybe five more turns, but Helheim is playing well so I won't do better than 1:1 on average and he will grind me down with his much superior income (gold and gems) and then crush me under his boot heel like a tiny, insignificant bug :D

So yeah, I am good to call it - well played Austen!

Talking of victory conditions, I really do like "more than half the capitals, for three complete turns (e.g. not counting the turn that you take a capital)". Seems to work well to produce an outcome.

Austen
August 19th, 2012, 04:05 PM

Lunaje
August 19th, 2012, 04:46 PM
Seems there are some votes, I'm fine with conceding victory. I still have my full armies left, but I'm almost drained on many gem types, and can't replenish them at Helheim rate. And don't want to see my hall of famers Fomorian Kings dying painfully :P
Well played then, Austen. Talk about reaching critical mass!
Will you do a brief of the game on your perspective? I like reading those.

Austen
August 19th, 2012, 06:11 PM
OK.. so it sounds like we're done.. I can delay the turn a day or two just in case someone objects. maybe send out a message through llamaserver.
