Hi
Windows 8 is out in a consumer PREVIEW edition. So how does WinSPMBT and Windows 8 behave together then?
Let's have some input.
Please notice that problems might be from a bug in Windows 8, that could be fixed before the retail edition is released to the consumers. But the happy news is that WinSPMBT seems to work out of the box. :)
I just had the game (v1.012-CD) play a battle on its own with no crashes or strange behavior.

(Now if I just could remember where I put the CD with WinSPWW2 )

I presume that you installed the game to a Vista+ compliant folder for pre-Vista written software (like ours! :)), i.e. outside of the /Program Files hierarchy?.

Sounds like microsoft might have actualy got there act together this time according to tests so far on the web.
Its still buggy at the moment but compared to Win 7
Its faster
Does more things properly (wonder if they fixed autohide on the taskbar)
Uses about 40% less memory
Is more backwards compatible, that should make Andy smile.
This could be worth upgrading to once its been out a while if they price it realisticly.
Lower overheads mean for those of you using laptops battery life will be extended
I bet they are also looking at the tablet market.
For companies running aging equipment could breath some new life in it, because the motherboard wont support more RAM.
However for the home user with a reasonably modern system upgrading your RAM would probably be the better option as its so cheap now. Horse bolted there they forced us to get the extra RAM in the first place.
If you want to try it heres a link for setting up a virtual hardrive & dual booting

Yes, I've placed the files in an different folder. And now WinSPMBT is running version 6.0.
Windows 8 did make a pop up window when I ran the 6.0 patch, it wanted to reach something called "Windows SmartScreen" on the internet. Seems to be a program to help users avoid malware etc.
BTW the Windows 8 version is 32 bit.

Just so we are clear about this...........
You tried the first test in a folder outside program files and you successfully ran the box stock base V1 CD version without any trouble at all ??
If that is true could you try running an install from program files with the V1 version and let us know what happens please.
