Was playing Russia vs Italy, 1943. When I tried to call in airstrikes from the ILs it took 7 turns. Why is that? Seems like a long time to wait. Thanks

What type of aircraft was in question, and what kind of unit was calling for the air strike?
If the aircraft in question happened to be level bombers, then response times of circa 7 turns are entirely possible. Fighter-bombers on the other have faster response times (around 3 turns or so).
IIRC it has been previously mentioned that the level bombers are mainly intended for providing preliminary bombardments in assault scenarios. They also tend to be notoriously inaccurate.

IL class are Sturmovic fighter bombers IIRC,and should never take that long, three turns would be the norm unless you have a trained spotter then could be less.

Thanks for your replies- It was an IL-2 bomber called in by AO- The bombardment screen read 7.0- not 7 turns-

Are you sure it wasn't an IL-4 level bomber?

I looked it up again- I think it was a IL-4 bomber- would that result in a 7.0 wait? Thanks

If it is a level bomber unit class, or a transport plane then it will take a very long time to appear. You are meant to pre-programme the things on the bombardment screen before game start after all!.
In reality - such types are strategic assets that are pre-planned and not randomly available at the whim of an end user Lt Col. We allowed a delay for those who forgot to pre-programme their assets, but in reality if you forgot then you should not see them in the game. The delay is there to stop any such whining.
Level bombers are really only in there for scenario designer effects - they go to a rough area and blindly unload ordnance. They do not spot things like strike air does.

I just assumed it was a IL-2 in question since the title of this post was " air strikes" my bad:o
Level bombers i rarely use.
Once in a very long awhile, i might buy a sortie of level bombers, and use them to bombard known arty parks though :)
