View Full Version : The Rope Bridge, any-skill MA (uploading pretenders)

Kungfoo
June 4th, 2012, 10:56 PM
As much as I love the new trend of 6-player games, I thought it might be nice to get a slightly larger one going. As such, I would like to welcome everyone to the rope bridge! MA, standard settings, with graphs off, this game is open to players of all skill levels - although if this is one of your first MP experiences, I'd highly encourage you to take the time to get extremely familiar with game mechanics and come in with the expectation that it might be a short trip*.

*and also with the intent to stick it out to the bitter end, even if you're getting crushed - it's a great way to learn.

Game Info
Name: The Rope Bridge
Players: 16
Schedule: 36h quickhost to start, moving to 48/72/beyond as needed - the general pace will be relaxed, as it's summer and you guys are probably as busy as I am
Mods: CBM 1.92 w/ ettin fix http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=804194
Map: Riverlands for Rope Bridge http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=806363&postcount=29

EDIT: Please make sure that your map image file is Riverlands_for_RopeBridge.tga, and NOT ropebridge.tga. I'd mistakenly included the wrong image in one of my zips. The above link is now correct.

Diplomacy: Machiavellian. Trades are binding. As for the rest, think of it like the board game Diplomacy - you can do whatever you want, but reneging on treaties is likely to have consequences on your ability to pursue further diplomatic options within this game. Please keep any hurt feelings over political machinations within the confines of this game, however.

House rules: Usual stuff, common sense applies here. No bogus orders, no free ettins, no lab-flooding or invisi-sieges, etc. If newer players have any questions about this section, please feel free to ask in the thread and I'll be more than happy to explain in greater detail.

Note that I will be simultaneously recruiting on several forums; I'll do my best to keep the nations list current, but it's first-come, first-serve across all boards.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NEWER PLAYERS: please DO NOT set yourself to AI without prior approval. if for whatever reason you're unable or unwilling to continue playing, either find a sub or just make a post in this thread saying you have to bow out - it takes the same amount of time, and prevents the rest of the community from hating you forever.

Awesome, great response so far guys. We're at 13 players; I'll probably leave recruiting open for another day or two (with a hard cap of 16) and then look to start sometime in the middle of next week, as I believe Ragnarok-X is out this weekend, and I want everyone to have at least a few days to design/test pretenders.

Also thanks to shardphoenix for pointing me in the direction of calahan's ettinfix for cbm 1.92 - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=804194 - we'll be using that instead of standard cbm, so please download the fixed version and then use that when you design your pretender (unless you really want a pathless archmage).

for maps I'm currently looking at roaring rhinos/greece stain, or possibly riverlands if we get a few more players, but I'm open to suggestions.

Wendigo_reloaded
June 8th, 2012, 01:34 AM
If you are looking for an UW nation to play Riverlands at 13+1, I might as well join with R'lyeh & try this CBM thing.

Kungfoo
June 8th, 2012, 12:10 PM
and... we're full! With 15+1 players I'm inclined to go with a modified version of Riverlands (228+17 by default) with fixed starts and a more proper land/water province distribution. For fixed starts I'll either get someone else to assign them or do a random assignment of non-coastal/water nations and mark capitals with a crown so I don't have access to any more information about the map than you guys do.

That said, alternative suggestions are still welcome.

I expect to have the map finished over the course of this weekend; use that time to build pretenders and then we'll start after Ragnarok is back and ready, so tentatively tues or wed!

Kungfoo
June 8th, 2012, 12:43 PM
and just as another reminder, please be sure to have CBM w/ ettin fix ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=804194 ) as the only mod enabled when designing your pretender.

thanks!

Hi.

I know that´s a pain in the ***, but I´ve just received a message I have to speak on a congress in Prague, means I´ll be out of town from Thursday (14th) morning to Saturday(16th) late in the evening.
So I could continue on Sunday morning (GMT).

Sorry, hope that´s not too annoying. The good message is I´ll be available without any break until the 11th of August.:D

Regards, Klaus

That's fine, I'll just extend the game over the weekend as needed. Prague is a wonderful city so I can't be too annoyed.

Have we decided the map? riverland?

Kungfoo
June 11th, 2012, 11:14 AM
We'll be using a modified version of Riverlands with fixed starts for 15+1* players. I've had to move a few provinces around to provide equal starts/spacing and am just now finishing up a last check of all the connections. I'll have the map uploaded in a couple hours so you guys can check it out, and will open the game for pretender uploads at the same time.

*note that while the starts are fixed, I won't be the one assigning nations to starts, so as not to gain any informational advantage over the rest of you.

Kungfoo
June 11th, 2012, 02:26 PM
Map is finished! The .map file included will not have fixed starts, but the live version on the server does.

Kungfoo

Whenever i try to create a game on the map, it says the maps image is not found ?

...Probably because I included the wrong image file in the second .zip :) The .tga in the first .zip, riverlands_for_ropebridge.tga, is correct, so use that one. I'll put together a package with the correct image and .map file together in one when I get home, but in order to play the game all you'll need is riverlands_for_ropebridge.tga from the first zip.

Kung my friend,

looking on the link I do not see Marignon...

Have you e-mailed your pretender to pretendersATllamserverDOTnet?

Marignon should show up once you have done so.

Kungfoo
June 12th, 2012, 01:08 PM
Yup, just what the reverend said! Nations show up on that list after their pretender has been submitted to llamaserver.

llamabeast wrote an excellent faq linked from http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=35160 - it should cover just about any questions you have (esp. parts 1 & 2).

Kungfoo
June 12th, 2012, 03:07 PM
Ok, clearing up any confusion, please be sure to have riverlands_for_ropebridge.tga (posted below) in your \maps folder. Main page has been updated to reflect the proper link.

Mars76, as soon as you get your pretender uploaded, we'll be good to start! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Kungfoo
June 12th, 2012, 09:51 PM
Since it still hasn't come across the server, I'm guessing you either sent your .2h file to the wrong email address, or with the wrong subject line.
The subject line should be exactly: The_Rope_Bridge

and you should be sending your email to pretenders and not turns or anything else.

hope this helps!

It's turn 3 and I already see an enemy dominion candle.

How far away exactly did you place each capitol from one another?

Kungfoo
June 17th, 2012, 11:43 AM
There are at least four provinces between every land capital (ie, cap0-prov1-prov2-prov3-prov4-cap5), and at least two between any water start and any land start. Sounds like you may have an awake pretender to deal with!

Up! This thread is far too quiet.

A number of parchments are delivered to the free nations of the world, carried by lobotomized Atlanteans, former members of a once proud race. The parchments are sealed with a sigil in the form of a trident:

"Smart commanders should stay clear from the waters, 'cos the seas are dark, and filled with terrors"

The slaves leave without waiting for an answer.

And that which is dead may not die, unless it tries to come upon land, where it will be stuck full of pointy monkey arrows.

Mari and TC have been stalling for 3 turns now. If they stall again, i will have someone take a look a at their nations and if viable them to AI. Im sick of stupid people not doing their ****.

In addition, Caelum needs a sub and is in a "decent" position, having just fended off Ctis.

Llamaserver was stuck for a couple hours, but it seems to be working now, and any orders issued while it was hung seem to be in.

I believe you should force host, as it's been over 2 days since the last turn and they are very unlikely to not stale again: No point holding everybody else another day. They have been occasionally taking turns, but according to what I have seen none of them has much left.
