Technically anyone is free to join, but I would prefer that people who join are fairly committed to it, not disappearing suddenly, and aren't some sort of super-players that will sweep the floor with everyone else.
So, anyone from Newbie to Intermediate skill is allowed to join. No elites or veterans or whatnot.

Hi Tiavals,
Have you thought of using this mod, who came from the other forum and another game around here is already using? https://dl.dropbox.com/u/97382000/CB1.92.ED...enders.0.02.zip
Basically, it's the most updated version of CBM pre 1.93 (which is already out, but seems llamabeast will be doing little fixes)
If so, I'm interested in trying C'tis for this game.

I see this is your first post on the forum. Do you know what llamaserver is and what the Conceptual Balance Mod 1.93 is?
Basically llamaserver is this thingie we use to host the game so it goes smoothly, and the CBM 1.93 mod is a thingie that makes the game more enjoyable for all by changing unit stats and such.
NOTE FOR EVERYONE:
Use Conceptual Balance Mod 1.93 when making your pretender.

What can I say? There's plenty of nations I want to try out in multiplayer and other people don't make the games as often as I'd like. :)
I'm not that big of a fan of MA, since it's basically vanilla Dom1 and Dom2 for the most part. :)

Well I guess that explains why it's so hard to find a MA game... I for one never played Dom 1 or Dom 2 and got my start with Dom 3. So, MA is the only age I haven't gotten the chance to play as MP yet.
As for why I like it, I'm mainly attracted to the fact that MA doesn't have "nonconventional" (I.E. game-breaking) nations like LA Rl'yeh and LA Ermor, but also, unlike Early Age, it has fewer uber-bless nations like Niefelheim and Hinnom.

I'm looking for the map myself, I'll probably have to edit it, so it'll take a time, since the only version available has fixed starting locations and nations.
I've also put the player limit to 10. Because I have no idea why it was more to begin with.

This might be because of "unconventional" characters in the game name, e.g. [space]. The game name has to be without special characters and without spaces, just an example.

This was a real fast rollback, what did happen? I don't think "rollback or I'm AI" it's a good attitude, since it's not the rest of the players or the admin fault that this happened.
Also, Abysia was AI in the rolled back turn. It was already AI for a while? I didn't notice until now, but that's certainly a let down.

1. I don't think there is a sense to seek guilty ones here. It seems we've got mostly uniform group of newbie MP players here and most were simply unaware that rollback can cause anything like that. These rollback things don't look from outside like something very disastrous may hiding behind, so reaction of those who was involved in this issue was adequate.
Yes, of course, with a posteriori knowledge it would be better to consult someone experienced one about rollbacks.
But if there are no indications that some problem may arise in some point, it is not that good to run for veteran's assistance every time.
So lets not blame anyone, people acted adequately to situation within the knowledge available to them.
Rather I would thank Calahan for his reaction, attitude and thorough detailed hints about it.
Not only he leaded us from swamp where we appeared (that is provided means to resolve particular case), but such an explicit analysis becomes a node where people will be able to point out when in some other game rollback will be considered.
2. We have not one problem with current game, but two problems.
Unfortunate rollback is main one, but we also have a player going AI almost from the very beginning. Not something to contribute to game's quality.
3. I would vote for the first choice ("starting the game completely from the beginning(means you can change your nation and so on)").

October 17th, 2012, 04:44 AM
There is one more issue with restart.
This map has 132 land provinces and 39 sea provinces. It means 7 land nations and 2 water nations (for instance) are going to have about 20 potential provinces per player to expand.
With Serbal's dissapearance and silent going to AI we have these 9 players.
But at the moment I have a single sea nation, so I'll have some advantage over others. It is not that underwater nations tend to win MP games (and I don't think I'll do well anyway due to lack of experience with underwater ones), but still start will be unfair this way.
Maybe one of us would like to try Oceania or Atlantis to make things more even?
P.S. For more precise count it worths to take into account that 7 sea provinces are lakes far within land. As far as I remember they are not connected to ocean (no access to game to check it at the moment).
So more correct values will be 139 (132+7) vs 32 (39-7). This way two underwater nations are in somewhat worse situation than land ones, but single underwater nation still have advantages (1.5 times more provinces to expand on initial stage).

I'm not sure whether it is something significant to care about and whether warning about this issue (what will affect others decisions) + some presumed relative weakness of underwater nations in long run are enough to compensate. My duty is to point out on this issue, and I'm completely fine either if I'll be alone or with some water neighbour.

Then he asked confirmation in http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=812711&postcount=94
Since the very beginning there were zero replies from dark7element and serbal.
Stattis voted for restart.
Concerning serbal: he dropped nation to AI without even notifying someone. His last forum login was "Last Activity: 09-15-12 03:41 PM". Looks like a sample of very inappropriate player behaviour degrading game quality in a whole.
But what about others?
How many ACTIVE players remain in game now?
How many open nation-slots do we have (if any) requiring recruitment?
How can Tiavals (or anybody else) conclude it if some players in team remain silent?
(I don't assert there are those who ignored these questions since I don't have full info - maybe they contacted via another means. But I assume that "?" signs at nation selection which remain for a few players in header message and lack of answers on forum are correlated.)
Ladies and gentlemen - we are struggled on almost a week around very basic and simple question - if things will go in such a non-disciplined way, this game will unlikely bring much good.
I understand if someone can't find the time to make his/her turn in late game for several days, but just a simple decision and a very few words on forum are needed here.
Lunaje
October 19th, 2012, 11:20 AM
I'm with Chelubey here, the game needs a little push to start again. I don't think Serbal is going back, he disappeared without a word. Also, if we have slots still open, reserving a spot for a water nation seems necessary to me. 32 provinces is a lot for just one nation with no immediate competition. I would play Atlantis, but really want to play C'tis and don't have the time to test them properly these days.

Sorry I haven't been responding to the game lately. I've been busy, both with RL stuff and with the other games I've been playing. The good news is that I'm about to die in "Primordial Cake" and "Tower of Elephant" is in the final stretch, so I should be able to be more active.
I will create a pretender and submit sometime tonight.

I'd vote for another map - anything with fixed starts. Random starts may result in very odd (and bad) capital placement for some nations.
In order to be constructive, I digged in llamaserver's map listing, seeking for 9 land, 1 sea maps with fixed starts.
And here is what I found: http://imgur.com/qmvmq
Map's thread http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=44078
Comments from discussion: "This is a tournament quality map that will be added to my long list of favorite maps. The idea of having impassable mountains with caves that connect opposing nations is always cool. Every aspect is balanced and well defined. The colors add to defining the territories."

The Land of Ethereal Squirrels by Elmokki (103 land + 13 sea) will leave us with about 13 provinces per player, including the water nation. Seems a decent number to me, but some may prefer more room for early expansion. Anyway, there is even a version with fixed land starts on llamaserver.
And also a version of the Desert Eye for which Calahan set up fixed starts for 8 lands players and 1 water one: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=807348 Which happens to be our number! About 14 provinces per player, give or take.

12 available for expansion water provinces consist of two lakes which are divided by a wall of several land provinces.

Technically it is me who messed up, since the game was on auto-start, despite we still being in the setup phase.
Regardless, at this point I'm just willing to go with it, but it seems unbalanced as Agartha is in game despite his player having just withdrawn.
Hopefully he doesn't have a password, so we can get a sub for him. Or we can just start the game yet again.

January 8th, 2013, 09:03 AM
If there is a password, the only option is to AI.
If the nation did have a password, then you would still need that password to set the nation to AI. As there is no way to do that outside of the game. The "Set a nation to AI" option on the admin page of the llamaserver is more than just a little deceptive. As if you click on it, it will tell you how to set a nation AI, and tell you that it has to be done from in-game by the player. But it is in no way a "Set a nation to AI" option.
But if you set a Master Passowrd when creating the game, then that can be used in place of any player passwords that might exist. Meaning with a master password, you can never be locked out of a nation, which would be the case if a nation had an unknown password and there was no Master Password. The only solution in such a case would be to let the nation stale until it was eliminated from the game.
tl;dr - ALWAYS set a Master Password.

It seems I finally realized what the hell has happened.
Internal upspells for communion masters are spread among whole communion. This King of Flame, Pyriphlogos, has some second form which boosts its fire magic in combat. Since he entered the combat as communion master _already_ (due to crystal matrix), not just battle upspells, but even initial form shifts were transferred. So those who entered the fight as communion slaves _already (due to slave matrixes) received. It is why all my SCs who had Slave Matrix started the battle in Pyriphlogos' battle chasis form (only physical form, they retained their magic).
So what can I say about it.
1. According to the consequences it is clear and pure bug, but it was caused by normal reverse communion mechanics multiplied by normal Crystal Matrix/Slave Matrix mechanics multiplied by normal Pyriphlogos mechanics.
2. I was totally unaware of this side effect and didn't plan anything like that.
I'm spending many hours for SP testing each turn among several last turns, but I tested other things. (Amount of features/placement/scripting to test in order to perfect one's performance seems to be neverending).
3. Such an outcome actually hit me heavily. I've lost 5 SC chasises, receiving these SCs in Pyriphlogos physical form, what is almost a lethal fighting downgrade for all of them: very low hp (in comparison with what I had), no protection, no foot slot, like -4 stats due to overaging to many of them (so utmost ridiculous strength/att/def as a result), insane penalty for my cold3 dominion ... for the exchange of fire shield.
4. Although they are still bugged, so some decisions have to be made by our admin. Tiavals, - that's up to you to judge. If you'll decide me to get rid of them, I'll get rid of them, that's fine. After all this situation is caused solely by my overcomplicated plans and features multiplication I didn't backed up with enough testing.

That is certainly one of the strangest bugs I've seen.
Were they actually Grendelkin? A pretty huge downgrade if so. :)
Edit: Might want to report it to the CBM team if you haven't already, although I'm not sure if such a bug can be fixed seeing as how the boosted battle forms work.
I have no problem with them. I'd rather not redo a turn as I've had bad experiences with such things, so if you can live with it, so can I, since it probably hit you much worse than me.

Empowered ones. (Crystal/slave matrices don't work for commanders without magic).

No, no, redoing turn is not an option here. It can harm a game in a whole.

I will.

Suppose we'll continue as normal then? I doubt it has hindered your ability to win that much, all things considered. :)

Ok, let's go.
P.S. It seems I've got some subconscious aversion towards Grendelkins, what causes me to suicide them in various contranatural means:)
I've drowned two full-kitted Grendelkins in the very beginning of the war. Some unusual movement was planned, and I can swear I tested that in SP. At least I'm under such impression. But when I employed that in actual game, they drowned:)

I wonder if I should share the admin powers to everyone in the game? As my turns are pretty fast and I have little to do, I don't watch the forums that much, so if you need to postpone hosting, it'd be good if you could do it by yourself, instead of waiting for me to notice it.
Does anyone oppose this?

I'm ok with it. I think we are all a trustworthy group.

I see no problem with this at this point. It will also be an interesting approach to admin.

I'm fine with whatever decision here.

Ok, I'll send an admin message with the password to everyone. Feel free to delay the turn processing as you feel fit. But don't mess with anything else. :)

Damn, a stale. I've been very busy this week and as my only other game is on hold, I totally forgot about this turn. Will try to pay more attention next time.

Everyone,
As we've been talking the recent days, the game is over and R'yleh is the winner. Congratulations Chelubey.
Thanks to everyone sticking until the end, Tiavals for setting up the game, and Mattyburn for taking over Machaka until turn ¡101 !
I may write something about the game one of these days. Hope to see you all in Dom 4, though probably not for a while in my case. Good game, I got to see many of the end game stuff around. I got the Hammer as a gift and it was wished away in a blink. Talk about power :P

Those were turns 86-88 which defined result. Opposition of largest Shinuyama's army and largest R'lyeh's army on the isthmus to the south-east from Ulm finished whem Shinuyama attacked. Both parties brought tremendous forces (up to a score of SCs from each side backed by several scores of mages backed by hundreds of chaff), so were the casualties of goblins when they lost it. The loss of several empowered Grendelkins due to the Pyriphlogos form which propagated through communion was not that heavy, since goblins lost everything, while I took insane heap of loot.
Simultaneously in the former Mictlan's lands second Shinuyama's largest army divided in several parts - something what helped me to easily kill them one by one.
These several turns seemingly decided the destiny of the game.

Thanks everyone for the company and Tiavals for the game. It took a while to make it go, we even had a false start in the beginning, although it resulted in good and challenging game.

Congrats to chelubey for the well deserved win, and thanks for participating to everyone. Now I'll leave behind the dust of Dom3 and enter the glorious world of Dom4, when it ultimately comes out. :)
