So I kitted my Golem guy(s) to go trample. He casts Astral Shield and then wades in. I thought AS would function a bit like awe, but my impression is he got thumped a lot. I notice the description says depends on S mage level, he's a 2, does that mean his AS is not good? Is AS forcing an MR check on every melee attacker? How does it compare to awe [Edit: which I guess is against MOR not MR]?

Tx.

Astral shield doesn't function like awe. It only takes effect after you get hit, causing your attacker to make an MR roll against paralysis. It's good for crowd control, but you still need to be able to take hits. Think of it like the vine shield.

After I get hit! OMG, no wonder...

The question about the astral shield scaling with higher S levels is still open right? According to the higher S levels only increase the paralization length.

Added the remark about the shield not stopping attacks to the wiki btw.

I believe we have yet to see a definitive statement :)

Thank you! Would it not be clearer to just say "*After* [instead of *When*] mage is attacked ..." (or is that not correct)? Just my tuppence ha'penny, of course...

It would, thanks.

Now hold up a minute! The in-game & the wiki quote:

A shield of Astral energies forms around the mage. Anyone trying to strike through the shield will have their mind blasted unconscious by the force of the shield. Magic resistance may negate the effect of the shield and allow enemies to strike the mage. The power of the Astral Shield is greater for mages who are highly skilled in Astral magic.

What does Magic resistance may negate the effect of the shield and allow enemies to strike the mage. mean, if not that the shield is stopping attacks in the first place? I don't read that in the way you guys are saying AS functions?

that means the effect is resistable by magic resistance.

it is probably a normal case of the description being a little bit off.

Fair enough! Though if you can't trust the in-game text, what can you trust in this world....?
