Were the tiles for muzzle flashes taken out of the game? I've found two different SHP sets that have them, but it seems like they're either too fast to notice or not there during gameplay.

The muzzle flash graphics make it easy to spot where a hidden unit is fireing from. I always tought the effect was deliberately removed from the game for that reason.

Has the same effect in real life, hehe.. I remember only ever having fired toward muzzle flashes.

I wonder what the developers have to say about this. Were the muzzle flash graphics disabled on purpose or is it a bug? I could not find any documentation in the game manual about it.
P.S. The file mbmuz.shp seems to contain the muzzle flash graphics.

What "muzzle flashes", I have no recollection of there ever having been such, even back in the SPI days. IF we removed them then II have absolutely no recall of that - and if we ever did so, it must have been way back in the dawn of MS-DOS prehistory.
SP games already give you far too much free information as to what unlocated enemy element is firing on you, and where it is firing from, in any case.
So they are not coming back, even if they existed in the first place. (The mic SHP files have plenty of left-overs from ideas the SSI team must have once had but never implemented, or re-did another way).

They are a "BUG" report just waiting to happen anyway. There is no way for the game to know where the muzzle of the gun of an Icon is anyway and what would work for a Bradley wouldn't work for an Abrams. On top of that you already get a shot "tracer" when you fire and the game automatically jumps to the target when you fire so "muzzle flashes" are somewhat irrelevant.
They existed in SP1, I have no idea if they did in SP2 or not. They were perfectly positioned for a Sherman and a Panther showed the muzzle flash half way back from the muzzle. It was neither deliberately taken out nor is it a "bug". A bug is something that happens you don't want to happen, and in this case, it's just not something we ever particularly cared about.

Yes the muzzle graphic is in SP2 too. It is perfectly fine not to have that graphic in the game in my oppinion. I was just curious. Thank you for your clarifications.
