question on forts

Apologies in advance if this has been answered elsewhere. I couldn't find any relevant threads nor anything on it in the manual.


I want my guys to be outside my fort to meet an attacking army bearing down on my fort. I have some of them set to Preach and search for magic sites, will they be there to fight? I suspect they will be because you couldn't really search the land or preach to the people within the castle.

They will *only* fight the enemy if they are scripted to patrol!

Strangely enough, all magi sites are located inside the forts. The mages of dominions are a lazy bunch and cant be arsed to search wast swats of land. So they just look around a bit n the neighborhood on their morning walk instead and call it a day. This also means that your mages can still sitesearch (with quick buttons) if the fort is under siege and they are inside it. And any found site will still belong to you as long as the enemies have not captured the fort.
