Hi guys,

Is there an 'idiots' guide to setting up overwatch? I cannot find anything in the manual that helps me.

OK, here is my situation. I am currently playing the Oborg-Ni Ridge (scenario 002) and am trying to stop my limited anti-tank assets (RR & Bazooka) from blazing away at any target and getting them to focus just on armour.

I think I am supposed to use the Overwatch set-up routine that is accessed from the range setting button. However, while I have worked out the basic idea (I think) I don't seem to get the commands to stick; and they keep on blasting away at everything, and end up giving away their position, which usually results in them being blasted out of their dug-outs long before the armour gets into range.

Thanks in advance for any help or info on this.

Oh, and is the routine the same for SPWW2 too?

Thanks again

Hi!

For my part, I only use the range-limiting to prevent them from shooting too early. Just press 'y' and then choose the range where the unit should start firing.

If you have bought the CD-version you can also set up a filter, so it only starts firing if the target has a certain armor value, but I haven't needed that so far.

Anyway, if your unit is fired upon, they will always shoot back!

Best Regards,

I recall playing that scen. and it's a tough one.
If you get a draw, then you've done well!
Don and Andy designed it,so you will likely get little help from them;)
As far as keeping bazooka's and RR's from firing at unwanted targets, just turn off the main or all weapons (to keep them stealthy) until the heavies come in.
The same applies with ATGM'S
The AI does not use z-fire and you may get some hard hits in if not too suppresed.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I turned the shoot at range down to one hex and that seemed to help a lot.
I eventually managed a marginal victory at Oborg-Ni Ridge. Though only through some great help from the North Korean Artillery that broke one assault wave when it dropped well short, and (for me) did the perfect strike right into the middle of it's massed troops.

That can happen to the AI ( it can happen to you to if you're not careful ). Although we haven't had an eruption of " the AI cheats " lately it does pop up at least once every year of so usually right after the AI nails someone's carefully placed AO on it's opening barrage. You're example is proof the AI doesn't have an all knowing, all seeing view of the battle and the location of all the units on the map.

Short shoots happen and if you ever plan a stonk then loose radio contact and move your own troops into the target zone it will happen to you too :)
