I'm playing campaign 11 - Baptism of the Black Brigade. In the core forces is a forward observer. When I buy support artillery the game doesn't allow the FO to call in fire. The unit class of the unit is Forward Observer. The unit id is B0.

Does he have a radio - these are useful items for calling arty. Scenario designer may have deleted it inadvertently. If so, scenario needs fixing.

If he does, he may be out of contact, so try plotting again on a later turn.

Now IF you have applied the latest patch then artillery plotting in various battle types has changed. Read the release notes for the information, I am no repeating it here since it is already up there in the sticky post. (Paragraph begins "Artillery can no longer...")

The version that went out with the V6 patch WAS CORRECTED. The B0 unit you refer had been swapped in by the scenario designer and , for reasons unknown, kept it's NON observer traits and NOTHING would change that, any unit unit entered as "B0" would not call arty so it had to be deleted and repurchased as "Q0" then the whole campaign was rebuilt and re-issued with this latest patch so if it's not working for you it means you started it before the patch was issued and if you want to continue playing that version ignore the B0 unit and buy a new one.

So NO, he's not out of contact and NO he's not trying to call arty before turn two. The campaign was borked from the beginning and I finally managed to get it working as intended last fall but only if you start from the beginning.

Thanks for the info. I started it before the 6.0 patch. I'll finish it then upgrade and maybe try it again under 6.0.

Seems that the unit F0 (pluton HQ) is missing a rifle for some reason.

Also the platoon leaders in the core are mixed in some cases but this is easily corrected with the new fix feature.
