Suppression

I had a Soviet HMG unit on an isolated part of the front. It was a green unit, experience in the 40's, morale in the 50's. It was full strength. It finished off the last 2 visible enemy units and I was trying to move it to another part of the battle. Each turn it gained suppression points until it hit Retreating status and then took off for the edge of the map.

The unit was not out of contact; its command unit was nearby. I wasn't able to rally it so the suppression accumulated. None of the other units nearby acted the same way.

What would cause suppression to be added to this unit?

Standing on a fire hex? Fires get cleared like smoke with the clear button, so you may not have noticed. Fires will cause suppression every turn though.

Nope. Standing on an open road.

Would you happen to have a save of that game?

Does sound very much like a out of contact issue though you say that's not the case so I a mystified.

Unfortunately I don't have a save file. If something like that happens again I will make sure to keep the save.

Was any artillery rounds falling nearby?
Low morale and exp. units tend to bolt even if not directly hit.

Seems like an temporary 'out of contact issue'with the reds low morale, they are are shaking in thier boots and bolt easily under bombard..no surprise there:D
