How much of the CBM are they going to add to it?
Edi

You're making assumptions that CBM is somehow the standard vision of what Illwinter wants. It is not.
About the only CBMish thing that has been done is that some summoning spell costs have been drastically altered so that they are now viable choices for use of gems and mage time.

I was checking up on the Dominions 3 Steam Greenlight status today (they are up to 782 comments) and checked the Steam forum. Someone there mentioned Dom 4 was in development :)
BTW, Dom 3 is $7.49 at GamersGate today (daily deal).

Amazing. I wonder though are they starting work on Dom4 now or are they already in an advanced stage of development and only decided to announce now?
Either way, I can't wait. :)

WOW! Ha, I have been playing Dominons 3 over and over again.
Whoopi! :)
Anyway, if they need a Mac Beta Tester or someone who helps them with their 2D sprites, I would gladly offer my help.

Wonderful news.
Based on this, do we have an estimated release date for Dom 5 now? What features would you like to see in it? :)

Only HPS PzCampaigns can match Dominions 3 on the subject of deep strategy. Can´t wait for Dom 4 !
Keep this series alive, I´ll purchase every follow up of Dominions !

I expect it will be, if Conquest of Elysium 3 is any indication. However, I do not have any solid information on that.

Will spells like lichcraft turn the caster or a commander into a lich, like in CoEIII? I always thought that was missing in Dom3, and was pleased to see it in CoEIII. I would be thrilled to see it in DomIV
That sort of thing is like bliss to thematic players such as myself.

can i ask about dom4 features?
1. What about supporting Multicore CPU ?
in dom3 even with 8 gb ram and 2gb videocard - turns at the late game - was too slow operatable
2. What about to move to a mod-able feature - the world limit of units? or up it to unlimit?
If i take a play, trying to maximize the world map, so and the playing opponents - it runs to limit to about 100-150 turn and halves all fun
3. What about small redesign of the magic item treasury - of artifacts (make it bigger, so make a scroll bar or somelike to it) because the limit is to small for global crafting - so i can't construct big number of arts at oneturn (they just dissapear).
and about the global enchantments table - okay if only one force can cast one uniqe spell (but why not if they influence just only their dominion?) - but there is the other problem - number of global spells are much bigger, than it could accomodate. Could it be bigger? or mod-able?
thanks!
ps. pre-ordered!
with great wishes!

1) Yes, there is multicore support
2) Not moddable, but the limit issue has autoresolution built into the engine.
3) No answer to whether there should be more space for globals.

Good! Thank you Edi!
Than, about 2nd Question
I've tested the biggest map with maximization of res and income
So there, it caps very fast.
Could you say how autoresolution work? Province number counts?
I love big and long-term evolution, so the big battles, where magic and morale have their real force - and that make the main problem to me - where to stop to understand that limit wouldn't be reached&
Because if it is reached - the game lose it's meaning at all, and i must restart for new.
Big armies AI could build and use against only if it has formidable resourses, so thats the problem.

Great News!
Is there going to be a "regular" version of game with kick *** manual like Dominions 3? It seems that pre-ordering is only for a download version of the game.
Thanks!

Boxed copies are not an option that has been much discussed. I expect that the low volume of demand and the costs of printing etc would at least double the price. You're more likely to get a much better deal of using some kind of print-on-demand service.
The manual is likely to be just as hefty as the Dominions 3 manual, if not more so. The modding manual is twice the length of the old one, with well over half of the extra pages being new stuff.
As far as further inquiries, I suggest keeping an eye on Desura and Dom3Mods. I don't come around here nearly as much anymore because of the lack of traffic since the switch to Desura.

Holy moly, stumbled upon a LP for this game on youtube just at random. Spent 100's of hours with 3, and figured it was a given a 4 would never come out (at least that was the prevailing wisdom). Graphics don't look any better, but I love these guys so much and all the love they put into 3 that I would buy it even if it was the exact same game in a shiny new box just to say "thank you". Wonder if that one pixel art map one of the devs has been working on for 5 years will make it into the game :D.
Anyway, I was just curious about Desura. I've never used it. I get most of my games from Steam but one thing I liked about Dom3 was the fact that it was independent of a digital service. I could install it and play it "offline". I also loved the manual but realize the cost situation. It's too bad though because digital manuals are never easy to read and they truly pale in comparison - which is why most AAA games nowadays just have built in "manuals" where stuff is explained when you hover mouse over specific buttons/commands. Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is a good example of this. Regardless, I really don't want to clutter my computer up with a bunch of digital download services. I don't mind downloading the game, but then I want it to be mine without having to access a service to play it. Will there be any option for that?
Thanks!

Wow, good news! How long is it in development? They still have regular jobs, right? Looking forward to this, Dom2 and Dom3 multiplayer was so much fun for me in the past.

Calmon: Release date is end of August, development has been going on for a good while (since late last year). Yes, they still have regular jobs. Bruce Geryk is doing the manual for Dominions 4 and I'm in charge of the supplementary manuals (modding, mapmaking).
Stryke11: Desura is analogous to Steam as a digital distribution service, but gives you more control. You can install games through the Desura client, which is similar to the Steam client. However, you are not required to use it and can download standalone installers so it's just as if you had installed from CD (only no CD, just the installer file).
I use the standalone installers myself, I don't like extra client programs cluttering up my system. The forums at Desura are technically inferior to most phpbb boards and places like this, but they do the job in a pinch.
I expect that Illwinter will try to get Dominions 4 on Steam, but initially it will be published through Desura and probably Gamersgate.

@calmon, if you're still around, or anyone (Edi? :) ...
I'm in this "quandary", having decided I want to buy "Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes". It's on Steam, and I have avoided any need for Steam so far, but amazon (UK) says it's bringing it out later this month... I'd like to buy from Amazon, which I presume would be a non-Steam non-anything-else version? But a friend suggested I would maybe miss out on any on-line/user-content additions, maybe even patches, if I didn't buy from Steam...?

I have a Steam account, but don't use it. I bought the X-COM series and Space Empires series from there, but didn't end up playing them much because I detest the client. So I cannot advise you on this. It's better to ask elsewhere.

One does not need to start Desura in order to play any installed game; when I want to play DOM3, I cd to the directory thus:
cd desura/common/dominions3-the-awakening
./desura_launch_play.sh
I do use Linux, but it can't be that different from other OSes.
And, when I download DOM4 from Desura, the first thing I will do is take the PDF of the manual to a shop and get it printed and spiral bound.
