Multiple Units In A Hex

I recently encountered a case where the AI packed about five infantry units in a hex. Firing into the hex I couldn't see that the additional bodies changed the hit chance any. You would think that the odds of a hit would increase when there are more targets in the hex. Is this not so?

No the chance of hitting the target as far as I know is the same, why would it be otherwise. However all other units are susceptible to suppression & or being hit.

I have just fired about half a dozen shots at 2 squads & a crew in the same hex with these results.
Target squad lost 1 man retreating
Other squad lost 3 men & routed
Crew destroyed.
