Hi,

I want to change the USMC flag to USA flag.

I was thinking of finding the USMC flag and overwriting it with the USA flag.

I browsed the game folders and only found a USA flag in:

C:\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT\Game Data\Pictures\Interface\Flags

Why bother ? If you want the official flag just set up the game as the US Army then buy all the troops from the USMC OOB as "allies"

It's because I play Scenarios (not Battle).

So I guess that there is no easy way (eg: overwriting files) to replace the USMC flag by the USA Army flag when playing scenarios.

Simicro,

The file you need to change is:

Icon0097.shp

Which can be found here:

WinSPMBT\Game Data\Graphics

The US and USMC flags are icons 13 and 14 within the Icon0097 shape file.

This post here should explain how to do it:

Let me know if you get stuck.

The process sounds a bit complicated at first, but once you understand it, it's quite easy and should only take a couple of minutes.

I tried several times and finally succeeded.

However by trial and error I found that I had to stop at step#7.

Because if I go beyond step#7 the replacement of USMC Flag by USArmy flag does not work.

Positioning icons (steps 8 - 12) can be a tricky business.

Sounds like you were fortunate that your new icons were already positioned correctly, so didn't need adjusting; which is rare, most modded icons require steps 8 - 12 be completed.

Fortunate because I replaced a flag of the game by another flag of the game. I did not create any new flag :D

Please help me with one last question.

Do you know how I can change the flag on these 3 game screens.

I believe the flag in image 1 is found in the battle.shp, in the graphics folder.

The flags in images 2 and 3 both use the icons in Icon0095.shp, also in the graphics folder. Changing the flags in Icon0095 will also change the Objective/V-Hex flags.

All I'll say is ...

I whole heartily agree with Suhiir!! There's a reason we have our own service flags (Dept. of the ...). We fly here our flag above the rest then the UK, USN, USMC, and the commands own flag. These flags matter. From a game point of view if you're playing the USA or USMC then decide to use the other as an allie it would be nice to know whos who in a battle as some of the units would have different capabilities that might affect your strategy to meet your objectives. Remember even current manning in the USMC is bigger then a lot of other countries own armies or even total defense forces for some. This sounds more like "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" What's worse is that a Sailor is sticking up for a Marine!?! Obviously I need a drink of...water or something!?!

Regards,
Pat

I whole heartily agree with Suhiir!!

If he was changing the USMC flag to the NATO or UN flag, Suhiir would have a point.
:) You are kidding right?

No offense intended to anybody or military entity.

No offense taken.
But, it is heresy...

There's a reason the United States rates two OOBs.
The US Army/US Air Force is a totally different entity then the USMC/US Navy.

The US Army (and it's OOB) are generally armor heavy with limited air support. The US Army is designed/intended for sustained combat operations.

The USMC (and to an extent it's OOB) is infantry heavy with much greater helo/air support (USMC/USN air work very closely together, in fact US carriers often have a USMC squadron aboard).
The USMC is designed/intended for fast/first reaction to seize/establish a forward base to allow the much bulkier/slower to react to "now" requirements US Army to get it's gear and people in place. The USMC is designed for limited duration (90 day or less) high intensity operations.

Does this mean the US Army can't react first or the USMC can't do sustained operations?
Of course not.
But, they are two separate animals. And each uses some equipment unique to it that the other doesn't even have (or in very limited quantities).

At no point - that I'm aware of - has anyone said that the USMC should not have their own OOB.

He merely wanted to change the flag to the United States flag, for his own personal use.

Trained with a few marines fresh from basic training along with army and navy in Chanute Il. weather ops.
One thing i can say, they seemed very brainwashed,if not crazy!
But i like the corps flag and thier uniforms however:)

I didn't think he was suggesting any revision/deletion of the OOB.
And yes I understand he only wants to change the flag (for whatever reason).

This reminds me of the "telephone" game.
Where person #1 whispers a message to person #2 who passes it to #3 and so on.
By the time you get to person #20 you're lucky if the message bares any resemblance to the one you started with.

If there's any confusion on thread, it's not of my making.

This thread should be closed...regardless, I'm done here.
