A (Hopefully) quick question:

Are the results of counterbattery fire, ie the "So-and-so counterbattery fire, X battery firing, Y battery takes Z hits" bit, merely a feeling of how effective it was or do the "hits" represent killed crew?

i.e. will a 25lb troop with 24 crew men be destroyed by 24 "hits", a 4.5 inch battery by 36 hits etc?

Its more a feeling of how effective your fire was. a "hit" does not represent X killed crew as an 8inch hit may well kill more than a 25 pounder one. Lots of hits usually means more damage and a battery that will remain out of operation for longer. There may well be no kills - just a morale result putting it into retreat for a time, the more so for less "enthusiastic" crews.

C/B fire is merely an abstraction - so more "hits" is really just an indication that you have done particularly well. However if there is a gun killed or battery destroyed message then you have achieved a notable result.
