View Full Version : Unable to see turn replay

I could not figure out how to start a new post, so bear with me as I use this one. My problem is replaying a turn. WHY am I unable to see MY artillery fall, and MY planes attacking? This does not happen all the time, but it is CRITICAL to see the planes attack in order to determine whether or not there are too many AA guns in an area. Someone please help. My email addy is JWalt1276@hotmail.com

Are you playing PBEM? - if so you must have Fast Artillery set to off in order to see replay.
Turn 0 replay can also be problematical for any replay, as 2 players firing is merged there.

Yes, I am playing PBEM, AND have fast arty off, and my opponent (my neighbor) is able to see his arty and planes strike on replay, but all I get is a little bit of infantry/vehicle action, I do not see my arty or planes attack. I am in turn 23 of a game now, where I am entrenched against his attack, and it really hurts to not know where the AA fire is coming from, or what my planes have done.

Is this something that has occurred like this in the past or just started with this game ?
Is the PBEM secure or not ?

It sounds like your opponent has Fast Artillery ON.
It's your opponent's Fast Artillery setting that affects replay.

I actually went over to my neighbor and verified that he has his Fast Artillery OFF. So, it is not that! And yes, the PBEM game is secure, requiring a password each turn. Any other ideas guys?

Did he just go into the game and check that Fast Arty was off in Preferences, or did he actually go into Preferences in YOUR PBEM GAME and check Fast Arty was OFF; because I've had more than one opponent swear they had Fast Arty off and then later they discovered it WAS on, they just hadn't realised it.
Apart from that I have no ideas...

Well = having fast arty ON is the usual case for a PBEM not seeing the arty in the replay.
It could be that he had it that way and then set it the other in between?.
Also - if it was the turn 0 pre-game bombardment then since the game is merging the 2 sides arty, then that causes problems with the replay. Only the one player gets to see any (I forget which one).
cheers

The other explanation is you have a corrupted save game. ...it happens. What is not normal is for the replay to not show when both players in a PBEM have fast arty set to off . If it was, we'd have had more than one report of that happening

Would it be possible and desirable to code Fast Artillery OFF for all PBEM games?
I know it won't solve JWalt's issue, but missing replays has been quite a common problem in my experience. Although it's usually sorted out within a turn or two.

If this was a "quite a common problem " why are we just hearing about it now ?
What's common is one player forgets to turn fast arty off then when the other guy complains he can't see his arty switches it off and then suddenly the problem goes away "within a turn or two"..."Gee IDK what happened... I had it off.......funny it's OK now...."
Either way Andy has told me he will look into the code for fast arty on/off in regards to replays because the "issue" of one player forgetting to turn it off then blaming the game is getting old. Setting it up so that it CANNOT be turned on for PBEM would indeed solve the problem but there might be other solutions that present themselves once the code is looked at

May not be a bad idea just to have fast arty flag set to off for PBEM or better yet have the flag set for both players by the setting up player, so both sides are set the same.
Issues do occur from time to time where one player plays say the AI with fast arty on & forgets to reset it when playing PBEM & this would solve that.

Maybe put a warning text on the pbem set up screen, a bold red one.

LIke the note on the first page of the game guide that flashes red about not using autohide taskbar ? :)
We are going to look into this. I would like to see fast arty work in replays and that would solve all the issues that arise because it doesn't record them now. Fast arty groups all hit's into one record but the game replay record cannot save anything but individual actions. If that can be changed, it will be

That would be good but many times, players play the AI and turn it on and then forget to turn it off in pbem, myself included.
Maybe a prompt msg when starting a turn in pbem, to make sure you have fast artillery set *off* before ending your turn.

Maybe I'm wrong, but all I remember is that once a PBeM is set up with a certain changes on the preferences screen, that PBeM battle will stay consistent to that set up regardless of whether you change the settings later on against the AI or even another PBeM battle.

Not so as in the case of fast arty,i can count my fingers and toes and then some, when someone forgot to turn it off.
As for other preferences, i'm not really 100% sure if they could changed, but i believe not.
